I've owned this humidifier for about six months and I'm relatively happy for the money spent (I paid $39.99). It emits a fine mist that keeps my sinuses moist at night, a huge help over the winter months especially. It is also whisper quiet. I have a deep kitchen sink so no worries about filling it up, but like most reviewers say, it is a little awkward. I'm a 6'0" tall manly man so I don't really have an issue lugging it about, but I can see where some sweet little old ladies, small children with fumbly fingers, and diminutive pets might have trouble with it. My only real complaint is that the bottom reservoir never truly empties out, so you end up with about a 1/4" water in the bottom unit (the part with the electrical cord) that requires emptying, as well; otherwise you end up with this yucky, quasi-brackish water in the bottom that I'm concerned I might be breathing in. Because of this, I've noticed that a ring-like black plastic plug in the bottom is beginning to deteriorate... Read more

The Holmes HM-495 UC is nicely styled, but its rounded top with the integral carrying handle makes it awkward to fill. To fill it the top section must be removed and held upside down while 25 cups of water are poured a cup at a time into the fill hole. It is too tall to fit under the tap, and will fall over unless it held because of the rounded top. When filled it is also quite heavy to carry back to the lower section. After just one month it just quit working, and when I requested service under the one year warranty I was told that another brand of ultrasonic humidifier will be shipped to replace it.

I went through 3 humidifiers until I finally found this one. My mom had the same one so I knew it was good before I bought it but couldn't find it at any local stores so tried to find something that compared. I couldn't. The humidifier is extremely quiet.

This is a great humidifier, but it has a few quirks ( that's why the 4 stars). I fill mine in the tub (it doesn't fit in a small sink) which is closer to the bedroom than the kitchen anyway. I wish the water reservoir was shaped differently so you could set it down. The shape is awkward. The blower isn't quite strong enough and it doesn't blow the moisture far enough away so unless you have some sort of air circulation (fan, ceiling fan, air purifier)to move the moisture, it will work, but it will settle around the unit and get everything wet. ( I keep a vinyl placemat under it on the dresser and have had no problems as long as there is air circulation) I love the large water reservoir, no filters! and it is very quiet and easy to clean. The amount of moisture is adjustable and when I need a lot,( we have asthma and live in the desert) it sure can kick it out. I am getting another one for my other childs bedroom.

I bought this humidifier about 2 months ago and I just bought another one. It's tall and slender, rather than short and fat like most. It can be a little tricky filling the tank and then carrying over to the base. A better design would help with filling and transporting. The unit is super quit and easy to operate.
