To bad he didn't throw it all to the wind earlier and become a professional corpse sooner.

Well, from his perspective, it was probably a good decision. After all, Chancellor/Fuhrer pays a little better than mediocre artist. From everybody else's perspective, of course, pretty bad idea.

I would've done the same thing as he did (giving up art for being a leader). Although I would've been much kinder to the Jews.

Let me think, mediocre artist or world dominating dictator. Hmmm. Toil for years in relative, frustrating obscurity or gain the vitriolic enmity of millions. Hmmm. Channel my efforts at incremental phases of minute improvement in my skills and observations or achieve permanent infamy. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.

I think the really bad move might have been joining the German army in World War I, but I don't know if he had any choice. Four years of constant battle would freak out anyone. I don't want to drum up sympathy for the creep, but I wonder if he might have been able to control his hates without the trauma of the war.

It's a pity the internet wasn't around in Hitler's day. He might have made it big as a webcomic artist.

For such a psychotic, Hitler actually had an artistic mind. Of course, if he had stayed an artist, he would have been largely forgotten. Instead, he was able to channel that rage into de-moralized post World War 1 Germany's desire to regain her stature. This was a man with a major inferiority complex and that was reflected in his leadership of Germany. If he had remained an artist, maybe he would have led a better life than the one that led him to Germany's leadership. Rejection of those he felt to be superior drove his hate.

~Smiles~ I am thrilled to see my suggestion still near the top of this list. While Hitler giving up art was certainly a bad career move for the world, it was not all that bad for him. In truth, Hitler gave up a life as an unknown, subpar artist for being the head of state of Germany and possible world domination. Of course it led to an early death for him as well as many others.

Hitler's artwork was never anything but crap, and it would never have been anything but crap. He was technically skillful but had no real ideas or innovations. I think he thought of politics as a kind of art, so he took to that instead, much to the detriment of humanity.

No matter how you fail one day, Never give up. That's a saying I live by. Maybe if Hitler really wanted to be an artist, He would have never gave up.

I think this was such a hilarious suggestion by VirileVagabond. Given the amazing amount of impact Hitler's vile mindset had on the 20th century you can't help but seriously wonder what the world would have been like had he had more artistic talent and hadn't turned his attentions to his political/homicidal tendancies. If his nastiness had received any positive feedback on his limited talent, I wonder if he might have turned another direction. And, given the economical and social climate of post WWI Germany, I also wonder if some other despot might have emerged in his place. Interesting idea.

This is no joke. Hitler wanted to be an artist. I have seen his work and his talent was limited. If he had not be rejected by the art school in Austria, he would not have cause the devistation which resulted in WWII. Unlucky for the world! He was quick to target artists which did not meet his criteria for propoganda art and it was a joy for him to see those who prospered in art be destroyed since he was rejected as a youth in that field.
