The management company treats tenants as if they have no rights whatsoever. They and agents of their company have entered our rented house on several occasions with no warning. The first time I was in the shower, I made a formal complaint. The next week I receive a notice to vacate, I get the lawyer on it. They write a letter and Highlander rescinds the notice. Since then they have done work (stopped by to check stuff out) tried to enter without any notice to show the place. All we have asked for is notice be given to us, which is the law anyways! The management at this company are beyond reprehensible. The way they try to lie and deceive is disgusting. The people working their are generally rude is not down right nasty. Avoid doing business with this slum lord management company at all costs!

I think the reasons a number of people on here are complaining is not so much because of how Highlander is treating people, but because of factors beyond their control -- they are willing to manage certain low income properties in difficult neighborhoods for low rent. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that most renters don't end up with great experiences in these situations. In my case Highlander has always been consistent , always on time and always responsive. The house has low rent and is a huge place that I never thought I would have. I've never had problems with them.

Dtr. rented apt. while a student at SUNY Albany. Service very poor. Supt good but mgt. company did not pass along messages. Always excuses. This one quit or that one is on vacation. Be careful with rent. Very slippery company. Pulled a fast one (probably illegal) with subletting the apt, but I did not want to go thru the legal proceedings. Dtr. left apt. in May. Co. rented the apt in July, but never told me. If I didn't happen to call, I would have just sent the rent. Also having trouble getting security back. BUYER BEWARE.

I have lived in a building managed by Highlander for the past year. I am counting down the days until I can leave. A lock on one of the outside doors has broken several times this year, and despite repeated phone calls and repeated breakings they refuse to replace it. One day, the lock on the main door broke and there was no way for me to get into my building. I called and e-mailed, and received no apology for having to stay in a hotel for the night because I could not get into my building. A few days ago, a Highlander employee dumped a potted plant outside my door. The dirt is still there. I have called and asked them to clean it, but the woman who answers the phone doesn't seem to care or feel any sense of urgency. If you are ever considering living in a building managed by Highlander run...far far away!!

HORRIBLE Place to RENT - The complex I live in owned by Highlander is the worst I've ever experienced and I have been here almost 13 years previously owned by very nice owners who would bend over backwards to keep you happy. I have had several problems not addressed properly currently an electrical problem, no light in kitchen and now after electrician looked at it, none in dining room GREAT JOB. We have not seen the owners once. No improvements have been done. People who have lived here a long time are very unhappy and want to move including myself. They don't care about our welfare and I don't forsee that happening and most likely will move when my lease is up, even though I've been here going on 13 years. The Help has no power to fix things because they are told not to spend OR that's their story, no one supervises them either not accountable. I would not recommend anyone moving here unless you plan on leaving within a year. NO CABLE, NO DISHWISHER, NO CENTRAL AIR, NO SECURIT... Read more

Horrible! I lived in a rodent ridden apartment and even after Rentokil came and told us that we had a major problem the denied that we had a problem - they were rude, not helpful and took us to court twice because they lost our rent payment and then they evicted us! Never EVER rent from them or use them as a propery manager. They were sending suspicious "maintenance" people into our apartment without prior notice, they would enter without even knocking or telling us that they were coming - they never returned any security deposits to anybody, me or my neighbors.

The worst management you could ever find. They are incompetent, rude, and just plain unhelpful. I did everything I was supposed to as a tenant, including not complaining when another tenant set fire to our building because they were so upset with the management, and it took forever for them to repair the damage. I had to fight to get my security deposit back after it was never returned after 40 days. One of the Supervisors stole my digital camera from my apartment (he was there to do repairs while i was gone). Cannot stand them and have nothing nice to say about them! Stay away from apartments they manage!!!!
