I rented a car in Denver, filled up the vehicle, returned it and over a week later I was charged 74.88 for gas. I have a recept at the gas station by the airport for $23.75. When I called the Hertz representative was rude and condescending. I sent an email to customer relations at Hertz - but never got a response.

You should file a complaint with the Officer-in-charge of the Hertz Rent-A-Car and if no response is given go to the headoffice of the company.

The service was great and the car I got worked fine. I had been backed into and the insurance was taking care of everything, but the gas. I had never rented a car before so I needed everything explained to me. When he asked me about the gas I said I would take care of it myself and fill it up before I brought it back, but then he told me about the "best value" deal they have with gas. My understanding was that I could bring it back and anything that was used from the gas tank would be replaced with gas and charged to my credit card. I thought that was a great idea since "Tommy" said that their gas was below what the gas stations were at and since my car was being fixed and I didn't know how long it would take, I could bring it back with anything in the tank and they would take care of it. I got a call a week and a half later that my car was ready. Unfortuantly, I just filled up the rental car the evening before. It had only about a gallon of gas used from the tank. When I brought the... Read more

I flew to Klamath Falls Oregon from Texas two times. Each time, I used Expedia to book my flight and car. Enterprise offered the cheapest rates. On the first trip, I arrived at the airport, no one was there. I called the 800 number and was treated rudely, and she said I had to look up the number to the other Enterprise in town- which is hard to do when you don't have a Klamath Falls phone book in your back pocket. I got the number from the people in Airport Security, and finally got the Enterprise office in town. Had to wait an hour, but eventually they got me my car. I thought this was a big inconvenience, but it was cheaper. This past week, I flew in for my fiance's memorial service. Not only was no one there, but I had a hard time connecting to the 800 number. Again, I was treated rudely and told to call the local town office of Enterprise. I had the number this time, and called and spoke with Wesley. He told me that he was alone in the office, and even though I was supp... Read more

I recently rented a car in Great Falls,Montana from the very moment I arrived at the Customer counter it was pure rudeness, they let you know right up front your are not appreciated at all, just shut up and give me your money, I wanted to walk away so bad, but when your 2 thousand miles from home and your in a dead little airport like Great Falls,Mt what do you do, but just bite your lip and hope it will be over soon, but it did not, it only gets worse, I gave them a credit card with my name and my wife's name on it and they told me it could only be my name on the card, I have used this same card all over the United States and have never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life, so I had to contact my Bank and transfer funds to another card with just my name on the card, that took about two hours to get done, then I return to pickup the car,so I can get to Billings,Mt and get a room after a very long and hectic day, I will say the young lady who waited on me this time was very helpful... I rented an van from Hertz for the weekend and decided to keep the van for three more days, not knowing they was going to charge my debit card with more charges, but it was fine. When I returned the van on the correct day i said i was going to return, the lady couldnt tell me when my diposit was going to be returned *bad business*.. so she called someone else *her boss?* and he reinsured me that i was going to get my deposit back in 48 hours. It has been two weeks now and the constantly (Hertz) gives me the run arounds. They tells me to contact my bank for the authorization Form to release payments that was pending on my account. Hertz took $885 dollars out of my account and my bill was only $601 dollars. I call corporate and they even tells me they sent it (not true!) so i'm going to file an *FRAUD CLAIM* WITH MY BANK SENSE THEY WON'T GIVE ME ANSWERS I'M GOING TO GET MY BANK TO INVESTIGATE IT TO GET MY MONEY RETURNED THAT IS OWED TO ME.

BRANSON, MISSOURI OR SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI Save yourself time and money, rent your car from a company that wants your business. Hertz in Springfield, Mo. delivered the rental car dirty inside and outside. Someone had recently smoked in the car. Hertz in Springfield stated on the paper work that the gas tank was full, but was really 1/2 full. Said would handle when I returned car, but Guess What...........did not get handled. Franchisee owner is not someone you would want to do business with. I have done business with Hertz all over the world and never had a problem, except Springfield, Missouri. Rent at your own expense...................YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

We picked up a Hertz Mazda 3 at Orlando International Airport in Florida in December 2010. The staff at the counter were very helpful. Joe from Morocco and his supervisor, a young lady from Lebanon, offered excellent customer service. However, when we collected the car there were dents and scratches that had not been recorded on the diagram. There was an alleged customer service representative walking around the cars but he was next to useless and rude. We eventually pointed out to Hertz about the damage on the car and had it recorded. Once again, companies are being let down through not investing in their staff's customer service training. Hertz offered no assistance on how to operate the car such as controls, etc. Although sadly they are not alone in this area.

At Herz Renaissance hollywood hotel, just add one person after 5 days for $15 a day, ended up being charged all 10 days for $150. Called customer service(can not see detailed records) and site directly(can not change the mistakes they made) and accounting (closed); did not care my concerns why $163 overcharged.

Customer service? What a joke that is to Hertz. At the corporate level it's a complete waste of time and effort to try to get any at all. I had problems with the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Hertz location due to the lies told to me by the clerk there. Ended up being overcharged $300 and not getting the car I wanted. Told basically "too bad, too sad" and that it was what it was. If at all possible I will never rent from Hertz again. I have always had great service from Enterprise and wish I had used them this trip.

I am Russian citizen. Due to my job I frequently travel to United States and I have never had a problem with renting cars up until now. In June 8th 2010 I went to Fort Lauderdale Florida, right before my trip I booked a car through Hertz.com. When I arrived to FL airport I was put in the line and waited for almost an hour in order to get a car, which I booked online. After long waiting time I finally got to the Hertz representative desk and I was told that they unable to rent me a car. The reason was that I possess International driver license instead of US driver license. I have never had a problem renting a car with International driver license not even in Europe. After long arguing I ended up renting a car from another company and by the end of the day I was frustrated and furious. I learned my lesson and will never rent a car from Hertz again. ALL INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS BE AWARE OF THAT FACT. Very disappointed in Hertz…..

We had booked a car from Hertz to be picked up in Santa Barbara (late January 2010). Huge mistake. To reconfirm our reservation (I had already received a printed confirmation and a subsequent email repeating the particulars), I tried calling their location earlier that day. No answer. I also got the Hertz desk at LA Union Station to call them. No answer. And when we got to Santa Barbara Amtrak station which was the Hertz "location", no car and no desk, just a yellow Hertz telephone. By this, I was connected to their central booking line who suggested I "might" get a car the next day (although we needed it immediately). I insisted that they had a responsibility to fix this, so after some time, they agreed that I could go out to the airport and that office "would honor" our booking. Being a $50 cab ride away, they agreed to reimburse me $25. The problem is that Hertz has many small (one person) desks who may or may not be there and apparently take a very casual approach to thei... Read more

I had a terrible experience with Hertz. I will never use that rental car company again as they were sneaky and underhanded as far as their charges are concerned. I was in an accident that was the other persons fault and everything was going smoothly-they had insurance and I thought everything would be fine. It took about 25 days to fix the car and when we returned the car to Hertz they said we owes them $9.95 a day for 25 days for insurance that was never explained to my husband when we dropped off the car. What a scam-it cost us 250 dollars that we should not have had to pay as it was not our fault. Then they lied and said they told us about it! DO NOT TRECOMMEND HERTZ OK KATY,TEXAS!

I rented a car from the Hertz agency at Ginnheimer Strasse 4 in Ramstein, Germany (just off the Army Post) for roughly one month in October 2009. I got a nice midsize Mercedes that ran beautiully all over Europe. It came with its own GPS and had all of the nice little perks--seat warmers, rear windshield wiper, automatic lights, etc. Plus the price was reasonable. So all in all, I was a satisfied customer... ...until I got home. I received an invoice from Hertz telling me my credit card had been charged for an addition 23.80 Euro. I checked my credit card bill and saw that I had actually been charged TWICE! When I called the rental car place in Germany about this, I was hung up on. So I called the Hertz Customer service number and was informed that the charges were for two (supposed) separate speeding incidents that occurred while I was in Germany. Apparently I had run into one of those automatic speed cameras and it recorded my license plate. HOWEVER, I was not being charged for ... Read more

When I dropped off my car at the San Diego Hertz facility at 3202 North Harbor Drive (somewhat early in order to avoid an additional day charge) I later realized I had mistakenly left a few items in the car. After returning to the Hertz location only AN HOUR LATER to retrieve my items I was informed by the staff that they were “unable to be located.” I was told that cars are routinely moved between locations, and after I had waited approximately 45 minutes for them to radio various individuals AND after speaking directly with the onsite manager, I was told there was nothing found in my rental car. This situation is simply NOT possible unless the employees had thrown my items in the trash, or (more likely) had stolen them. Although professionally courteous, the somewhat blasé response (with the exception of the onsite manager) I received from Hertz regarding this whole event was infuriating to say the least. These items were worth approximately $200USD which is not an insignificant... Read more

This is a complaint against False charges by the 11 E DEMAREST, ENGLEWOOD, NEW JERSEY HERTZ location, which is a "sub-leased" location in an EXXON Gas Station. My husband and I rented a car for Labour day weekend on Friday August 29th and returned it on Monday September the 1st. We owed a total of $167 but we received a bill for an extra $51.49 for an extra day because the location was closed on Monday. We called HERTZ Customer Relations twice which was a waste of time. The rude representatives kept stating that this is the time policy. I called the location and the owner of the Gas Station who is the Father of the person who manages the Hertz location replied and said his son was away on Vacation and the location was closed and he suggested that I call the manager of the Fort Lee location who has not responded to me yet. I made the reservation on-line on EXPEDIA.com and the location was said to be open on Monday on the reservation. I am extremely disappointed with HERTZ and will ... Read more

Dont get caught renting GPS navigation in Ireland It is very out of date and you need to resort to using a map especially in bigger towns and motorways. Despite complaining they refuse to refund the 10 Euro daily ($15 US) So save your money. Its a franchise and they couldn't care less what you think.

The service was okay, but the cars are disgusting! I had to switch cars 3 times today! The first smelled like someone had just smoked a carton of cigarettes in it right before I got in. The second one was smelly, but as soon as I drove it off the lot and came to a stop at a light the car started shaking. I then had to drive 20 minutes out of the way to get another car, which was just as bad. The cars smells like BO on top of the stench of smoking! I will NEVER use this company again.

Experiences with Hertz in most airport was very good service and great car, but it was just worst in Philadephia (PHL airport). The bus shuttle service is the worst there as it took 35 minutes to get picked up while alamo, national, and avis passed like 4 to 7 times. Picking my car was good, the line to the counter was good, and returning the car was not bad. Just after I return the car in the same location, I figured out there was no bus drivers taking us to the airport when there was 20 customers complaining for the bus to come and waited for half an hour. Other airports like LAX was great as waited for only 2 to 5 minutes. If you rent Hertz, rent somewhere other then Philadephia airport.

Made a booking for a BMW 318i on Hertz' Aer Lingus microsite. Confirmed. Prepaid. Sorted. Arrived in Shannon Airport to be told that at 28 I was too young to be given the car requested. Apparently, 30 is the minimum age for them to insure on a BMW in Ireland. So was given a Toyoya instead and told to pursue the booking company for compensation (but hey! It was Hertz! You're Hertz! What's the problem?). Arrived back in the UK and complained. Waited 18 days for a response and was told that I hadn't complied with the Ts & Cs on the website so this was my fault and no refund would be payable. What? I couldn't find any mention of the BMW having stricter age restrictions when I booked, and I'm one of the few careful sorts who does scour the small print. Curiously, a friend who accompanied me on the Ireland trip fell in exactly the same situation. Same age (to within a month or so). Same booking, same dates, same you-name-it. Only conceivable difference was he quoted country of residence a... Read more

did you know that they can do insurance direct bills? I needed to get into a rental car recently after an accident and was able to get a nice, CLEAN, new car from them instead of the 2 or sometimes 3 year old clunkers I have rented from other neighborhood rental agencies that always seem to be at dealerships and body shops. Its nice to have another option.

after waiting 25 minutes for them to 'find' my car...they had actually rented it out, and told that I 'must' take the additional insurance to avoid having to pay for any damages...my car arrived without any gas in it, but being late for my appointment I left anyway and coasted in to my appointment. When I called Hertz to tell them that the car had run out gas, they told me that I would have to either go get the gas myself or pay for a tow truck!!! After getting the gas myself I had some time to kill before my next appointment and 'tried' to use the navigational system. Wow, was that stimulating...I punched in an address that I already knew how to get to but when the directions came up they were going to send me the opposite way to where I had entered. From talking with my coworkers (we have 'had' a corporate account with Hertz) this was not the first time that my company has encountered this type of customer service and problems. Do yourself a favor and rent from somewhere else!!!

Hertz take all the worst parts of what the other car rental companies in the UK offer then add some rubbish of their own. They charge so many extras - about USD25 just for renting from an airport. Insurances, road tax. They quote USD65 for a days rental, and you end up paying more than double. Their desk in the arrivals area is hardly ever staffed. Buses are irregular, the depot at Heathrow is dingy, tatty and always has a long queue and most of the "customer service" peope are sullen and unfriendly. Last time (3 weeks ago), from the time I got to the bus stop for the courtesy bus, to the time I drove away, was nearly an hour and a half. And they were not busy, it was 10pm at night. They give a "gold" card then don't give you any points if you prebook and prepay. So I have rented over 25 times and not got a single point. Why do I keep going back? Unfortunatey I dont have a huge choice.

Had a great experience with Hertz recently: I'd planned on taking a rental car from Boston to NH and back then catching a train to Stamford CT... but happened by a Hertz shop and found I could drop the car in Stamford instead. So I wound up driving some 300 miles within a 24 hr time frame, all for just $75 or so. Nice.
