There is also an option to sell your article to Helium with exclusive rights. They pay USD 2-15 depending on topic. On the Marketplace you can directly send articles for magazine publishers who pay USD 20-200. Also you can run earn by writing contests. Helium makes it very easy to write articles. They have a data base with thousands of article titles. You can find a title you can write about and add your article to the title. They are then rated by your peers. You make money according to performance. It isn't a lot, but it doesn't take much before it starts adding up.

helium.com doesn't pay a lot but a good place to sharpen your skills and get paid a little.
