Hee Haw

Here we have the southern, hillbilly, redneck side of Laugh-In.  The jokes were mostly lame, and the characters were cartoons.  Yet, that's what it aspired to be; stupid and silly, and we all thought it was fun.

Americana. Best country variety-comedy show ever. Great musicians. Corny country comedy, light weight fun. Lighten-up folks. Although I didn't watch it often it was amazing how many regular people enjoyed this show. Good escapist fare and quite a few beautiful women passed across the landscape.

As a kid, there was something profoundly depressing to me about the thought of living in the "country"...particularly Southern "country"...and this unfortunate stereotype was undoubtedly reinforced by the show "Hee Haw". For some unfathomable reason, my father, born and raised in Hackensack, NJ, seemed to have it on the tube a lot (at least that's my memory now). I didn't think the jokes were all that funny, I hated the music (as an adult, I've gained an appreciation for certain types of country music...Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Faron Young, Connie Smith, etc..but during childhood, it was all pretty much anathema to me), and I was too young for women like Misty Rowe to really make much of an impression on me (come to think of it, maybe that was why Dad watched it). I swear that I could actually feel neural synapses shut down in protest every time I saw any part of this show.

Hee Haw was a great show. They show the re-runs on CMT from time to time, and I try to watch when they do. The music was great, and though they were kind of cheesy, the comedy skits were always funny, which can't always be said of Saturday Night Live.

Apparently, judging from some of the low reviews I've read, this is a show people love to hate.  I'll give it a three because I do remember watching it as a young kid with my family.  I always found it fascinating, and getting a kick out of some of the songs.  Hey, I don't remember it causing me any nightmares. Anyway, they must have been doing something right to have stayed on clear up through the early '90s.

Heehaw was fun to watch at first when I was still a kid. My parents loved it. It was a bit different a variety show that had mostly the same cast of entertainers country style. there were songs, skits, and jokes. some of the music could be good since there were some talented musicians on there. the problem is the show was on way too long. as the years went on some of the cast remianed the same while new ones were added. I stopped watching it after awhile. but at least it was harmless fun and you could watch it with the kids without worrrying too much..

For a show obviously designed for a specific audience, "Hee Haw" surprisingly had relatively good crossover success. Clearly a standard variety show, the running gags were still decent, and the show probably exposed country and bluegrass music to many people who otherwise would have never paid much attention. Nevertheless, "Hee Haw" was primarily a 1970's show, so the ratings suffer for this list.

Anyone who did not like this show is crazy. This was talent, not the crap that airs today. Maybe when you grow up you will realize there is a difference.................

Godawful bad!

I watched some re-runs the other day and I wished I would have watched it more. The music and musicians were great, and the babes were fantastic. Some of the filler was corny, but so what?

Corny jokes but had great musical guests and wonderfully bodacious regulars like Barbi Benton, Gunilla Hutton, and Lynda Thompson.

I hated this show too, only watched because my dad loved it. I can remember some good looking babes on this show.

Just pure fluff, no message, no PC preachiness, no violence, no smut. The jokes were corny but clean, the characters were stock, and the timing was great. It had the virtue of HUMILITY, too, something today's overrated reality shows lack. Looking back now I can't BELIEVE the country immortals that appeared on Hee Haw: Hank Jr., Dolly, Conway, Willie, Charley Pride, Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, Tanya Tucker. Wow! The singers alone would have made the show worthwhile. I grew up watching Hee Haw, but I never realized how great it was until recently.

I loved & respected my grandfather. He was a great guy, and very smart. It's simply amazing that this was his favorite show & he watched it everytime it was on... which often meant I had to sit down, shut up & watch it too. Man I hated this show!!! Well, we all make bad choices somewhere in life. This was my grandfathers bad choice.

Pablum and platitudes for half-wits.

I remember watching this as a kid...only good thing about it was Barbie Benton rising out of the cornfield...YEEEE HAAAAA!!!!

Egads, this show was THE WORST!!!!! I absolutely hated it when it was Hee Haw time on the telly.

This show clearly displayed the awesome brain-drain afforded by Confederate deaths during the Civil War. No one on the cast had an IQ over 40, which is typical of those folks born and living south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and of the concomitant audience this abortion was aimed at. The girls in the cut-off shorts were interesting enough, and Junior Samples was the quintessential down-home good ol' boy retard. In fact, he reminds me of several ranking members of the current Senate and House of Representatives.

We liked Hee Haw and always watched it, we are country and proud of it. Yes they pushed the limit as far as the low cut dress, and some of the double meaning, but it was tame by todays standers. And it had very good music to. I supose it targeted certain age groups, but today we all know thats what tv is doing NOW, and I ,am tired of the magical 18 -to 49 age group. Not everyone live in a big city or wants to and tv producers arent lising to us.

In the great tradition of Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, and Petticoat Junction, this variety show was corny, and that was what made it great! It never featured objectionable content and was always just silly! After being axed in 1971 by CBS ('71 was a bad year for great comedy, wasn't it?) it went into syndication, where it remained until...get this...1993! Yes, it lasted from 1969 to 1993! Highly recommended!

This show actually made me cringe the few times I caught sight of it during its extremely waaaaay too long run. The comedic choice for those who went on to enjoy such television low points as “The Dukes of Hazzard” and “The Jerry Springer Show”. When you think about the success of Hee Haw it really explains the direction and target audience of much of the programming today.

Me & my friend use to watch it all the time just because we thought the name was hilarious. We didnt really pay much attention or understand some of it when we watched it though, we were only like 5 or 6 when we use to watch it.

A good, hokey variety show

KORNFIELD COUNTY LIVES!!!! Junior Samples, Grandpa Jones, BR-549, Buck Owens and Roy Clark, Pickin' and Grinnin', The Hee Haw Honeys, Buford the bloodhound, Where-O-Where-Are-You-Tonight?, Empty Arms Hotel, Stringbean, Gloom-Despair-And-Agony-On-Me, Archie Campbell, the Reverend Grady Nutt, Gailard Sartain, the Gospel Quartet, and all of the country music stars that got their first exposure on Hee Haw...this was a KICK-ASS show! I may have been the only one in my school who actually admitted to liking it. Then again, I was raised on country music, and this show was one of the few that I can honestly say brought my family together every Saturday night at 7 pm. He's gone now, but Junior Samples and his "BR-549" skit was one of the funniest skits on the entire program. His drawl and his deadpan humor had my father and I in stitches.
