Um I work at Harris Teeter and you want the cashier to show you respect?? How about you douche customers show us alittle respect for once? I mean we get some good ones then we get the real stuck up snobs that ruin our day. Heres how it plays out, "how are you doing sir" and they will reply with their phone number, its like I didn't ask you for your vic card yet but thanks for cutting me short. We get SO many customers that come in and act like they have had to worst day EVER and make us feel like shit, you guys wouldn't believe the type of people who come in, and instead of complaining about something like a 5 year old girl just take a deep breath and calm down. Lastly its always funny when its raining and EVERYBODY wants paper bags, are you freaking serious. When a guy comes in and ask for paper bags its like dude give me your man card.

I had a Tide Detergent coupon: 75oz+, Buy one, get free Tide Stain Release (exp 3/31/10). I gave the clerk 3 coupons (Tide, the Tide Stain and the BOGO). He said that I could only use the BOGO. I told him that I should at least be able to use the Tide and BOGO together. He called the Manager and she agreed. He still continued to argue. When I got home, I looked at my receipt and instead of taking off the $6.99 for the free item, he took off $3.77. I didn't know where he even got that figure. The Tide should have been $9.77 plus tax with $1.00 off. With TN 9.25% tax, the total should have been $9.67. I was charged $13.54. But after adding up the amounts that should have been taken off $2.22 for the EVIC discount, $1.00 off the Tide and $3.77 for the Free item, it adds to $6.99. HT doesn’t need this type of premeditating, calculating, deceiving, cheating, quarrelling, and disrespectful personal working with the public. I could not sleep tonight thinking about the way I was t... Read more

I'm pretty surprised at the number of negative reviews because the three HTs in mt area {Nashville) have each provided me with nothing but amazing, extra courteous service, a mind boggling array of top quality produce and impeccable cleanliness. I realize each store is individually run and managed and that there will inevitably be differences in performance but my guess is that the negative reviewers are simply negative, nit-picky people and I speak from long experience in the retail profession. I strongly recommend HT regardless of their slightly higher pricing.

The cashiers were very courteous and friendly. I couldn't get over the feeling that I was paying too much for everything (i.e. getting ripped off). The last straw was when I saw the prices for the Goya products. I'd rather trek the extra five miles to GrandMart.

Sky high prices and poor service. No, actually the employees seem to be trained to be rude, show disrespect and treat you as if it is their professional responsibility to make sure that this is the very worst shopping experience that you've ever had. And, lo and behold, they succeed swimmingly. Kudos on charging a premium to make us all feel like dirt!

I really dislike Harris Teeter!!! I almost hate it if I am being honest. I live in Ghent neighborhood in Norfolk, Va. It seems as if the store is aware of its poor customer service but doesn't care because of the few places to shop in Ghent. I will not be spending my money there anymore. The store is always out of everything that is "on sale". I was told by employees that I need to get to the store earlier! Instead of planning and running a business properly, I must get to the store at 8 am. I just left there and it will be my last time there. After bagging my stuff that the cashier practially threw down the belt to me I wasn't even thanked for doing her job. Stupid employees you deserve the shit pay that you get.

1 Star Don't shop Harris Teeter Stores!!! Just moved to the South from the Northwest and decided to go check out a Harris Teeter near my house. After spending an hour acquiring my groceries with my two small children I went to customer service to get my "VIC CARD" for the savings. However they require your driver's license or ID for their computer system. I think not! I've shopped at numerous grocery chains over the years that offer similar savings cards and have never had to give this information and will continue to refuse to give this information in the future. I would understand giving this information if I was paying with a check but not attaining a frequent shopper savings card. Don't they have enough info with my name, address, phone? The store manager didn't even know the policy but offered to let me use a card for my cart full of groceries. I told him I didn't want to give his company a penny if this was their policy. Never been a Harris Teeter shopper and certainl... Read more

I must say that it's odd to read all of the reviews and realize that most of them are incorrect. After many years as a store manager I feel that I am very qualified to point a couple of things out. For the employee: 1. You are correct in believing that the company does not care about you or your situation. I could go through this for hours with plenty of emails from individuals from the corporate office to back up my statement. 2. The way you are treated in the store right now is the best that you will ever be treated. 3. If you really want to know what is going on with the company learn to play golf, or better yet attend the weekly bowling night where there are plenty of drunk upper level home office executives and employees who will really shed the light on things. 4. Ask yourself this question. What percent of salaried managers started with the company as hourly employees. The percentage is so low that I think you might not believe it at first. The company does such a ... Read more

I have been working at Harris Teeter in the salad bar. They are ridiculous, they don't even care about my postition at all..... They give me 10-20 hours a week........ they want me to put the bar up in two hours so i can do other things to help the department... TWO HOURS? Starting fresh every day, cutting and stripping the cucumber's, zuccinni's, making the in house salads, rotating things.....two hours is just not enough, and yet the other's do it because they use all my crap from the previous days, they don't care enough about the bar to give me time to even do any prep work so that the next day they have all fresh things...... they use it as a trash can, my manager will be like, put all these throw aways up and i'll look at him and say, i don't even have that product out today, and he'll tell me to throw it on top of the salads..... so im just supposed to throw five pounds of minced white onions that no one wanted to buy, throw it on the salads, and hope people buy it then? ... After reading some of the reviews I had to comment on one in particular, one from a reviewer that said with Harris Teeter's pricing there employees must get paid very well. I can tell you as a Harris Teeter front end employee at one of the new Delaware stores the opposite is true. Not only is the pay pitiful but as a front end employee they will give you 5 hours a week just to keep you, which precludes you from getting unemployment when things slow down. To be honest at $9 an hour sometimes it is not worth it. Where does the money go for all of the expensive things you purchase? It goes to the salary of the store manager. The store manager gets between $83K and $93K a year in salary PLUS they get 50% of their salary in addition as a bonus each year. Not bad!!!!!

I like the broad selection of products they have -- it's always the place I go when I need something more gourmet-ish -- but they're very overpriced. I didn't really realize it until a few years back when I was buying baby food. The small jars I bought cost 79 cents at Food Lion, but 99 cents at Harris Teeter for the exact same thing. (Same brand/size/flavor, everything.) Another one I've noticed is 20-ounce sodas, purchased individually. Those are $1.39 at Food Lion and $1.49 at Harris Teeter. Another complaint I have about Harris Teeter is that I think their produce is awful! I can't tell you how many times I've bought things -- like a bag of apples -- only to discover two days later that it's gone bad already. That's ridiculous. And I NEVER save anything with their VIC card. On the other hand, when I shop at Food Lion, I regularly save several dollars on each transaction when I use their MVP card.

All around better quality food than most. But the prices are definitedly higher. I hate the nonsense of prefer customer cards. And they don't really care if you shop there because they make you wait an inordinate amount of time at the grocery line. So, if you are picking up things that eveybody carries, you can get them cheaper elsewhere and come be out of the store quicker.

I was greeted politely and given help finding an item. The cashier was busy, but helpful in bagging so my load was not too heavy and the bread was not squashed! I had trouble with the turntable, never having had experience with that before, and finding bumping it turned it on when I had not meant to do so while assting bagging [which I usually do]. I wish prices were lower, but that seems to be a problem with the economy in general and not the store's fault. Nanna

I am not impressed with the "what's old is new again" look of the checkouts areas. Prices are rediculously high! Almost $10 for a bag of Starbucks coffee, when WalMart sells it for $6.99. I like that HT has the VIC program for Education, but honestly, if I donated what I could save by not shopping at HT to the schools, the schools would get way more that what the VIC program offers.

The stores are always clean and well kept. The variety of goods and the quality of produce are both excellent. I have shopped at Harris Teeters while on vacation so was excited about one coming to my neighborhood.   The reality was not so exciting. The prices for a lot of things are too high.  And they have decided to 'rethink' the old fashioned conveyor belt check out for a scrawny little turntable device which squashes your hard goods and soft goods all together in a clump and makes it impossible to tell which side of the cashier is the line you are getting into. I find that I hate shopping there now, and only go for a few specific items, then get the heck out.

HT had two stores in decidedly upscale neighborhoods in Jacksonville FL -- Mandarin and Ponte Vedra. Both are now closed because Publix out-competed them on service, and of course price. I love HT stores, but don't like their attitude that all they have to do is find a rich neighborhood. The same attitude is destroying Whole Foods and Wild Oats.

I have been an employee of Harris Teeter for nearly 7 years. They are a great company to work for. Their main goal is not to increase sales, but to increase customer satisfaction. Money is not what motivates HT. It is that "something extra" that makes us different from other grocery stores. Yeah, you can find meat and produce at any grocery store. But Harris Teeter is so confident that you like our products, that we will double your money back if you aren't satisfied. I know Food Lion and Kroger don't stand behind their products that strongly. Not only does Harris teeter offer top of the line products, but we make sure that every customer is taken special care of. You should never wait more than a minute or two in line to check out. You should never have to bag your own groceries. It is the little things that matter, like when we take your groceries out to your car for you. This is what keeps Harris Teeter a cut above other grocery stores. Try getting some kid at Food Lion... Read more

Very clean store with employees that professional and friendly. Anytime I've had a problem (couldn't find a product, asking if they accept competitors coupons, returning item that was recalled) they've been helpful and kind. Another bonus is that the store I shop in actually has heating vents in the isles of the frozen food section. Now my kids don't complain that they're cold when I'm shopping in that area. They always offer to take my groceries out and ask if I found everything. One a few occasions I've needed rain checks and the cashier was more than happy to be sure I got those before I left the store. There was a few times when a cashier has pointed out that there was a display up with coupons on it that I might be able to use. There is a big difference between the caliber cashier of Harris Teeter and those of other grocery stores. At Harris Teeter, I haven't run into any young cashiers that are more interested in yelling across the store at their friends and goofin... Read more

I somehow keep making the mistake of shopping at Harris Teeter every now and then, hoping it will get better, but it never does. It is a nice, clean store - but no more than Kroger across the street, where you can find MANY items at HALF the cost. I am not exaggerating. I'm not too thrilled with the particular staff at the one near my house, but I'm sure it's different depending on the store. However, I do have to say that I prefer their meats to Kroger's...

One is opening soon in walking distance to my apartment--I can't wait. This is a very good chain--service is always top-notch, food quality is great, and the selection is just as good as Safeway or Giant or Food Lion. You need to join their "VIP" program (free store membership) to really get the good deals, however.

Excellent stores! There is a nice mix of upscale gourmet and popular items. I can choose either to splurge, or spend no more than if I were shopping at a local Giant or Safeway store. They usually have good sale items as well. I'm trying to convince them to open a store closer to my house. As far as the rater who compared them to Wegmans, puhlease! Wegmans is simply Costco for the Land Rover set.

Harris Teeter is generally a wonderful place to shop. Yes, they tend to be a bit more expensive on some items, but what you get in return is clean, wide aisles, friendly checkers and managers, and more often than not an unsolicited offer to take your order to your car for you. Despite being upscale, great deals are easily obtainable here as well. Being the only chain in Nashville that doubles manufacturers' coupons up to $0.99, and twice a year has triple coupon weekends. Yes, you can spend a fortune here on gourmet items, but I can affordably shop here regularly for the basics for three people on an income south of $20K. Only once, in 4 years so far, did I have a bad customer service experience, and calling them about the incident brought a prompt and more than satisfactory resolution to the issue. Whereas other stores *cough*Kroger*cough* haven't given me more than an automated response to numerous complaints. The only minor complaint now is that they've reduced their hours fro... Read more

The people that work at my harris teeter know me and treat me like a person, and that is what is missing in every other grocery store, they make an effort to tell me tell me what is on sale, and sometimes what is going to be on sale, and will ask to help me when I'm looking for something, and tell me about what I'm looking for. They are speacial.
