Sun Apr 17 2011I have an awesome hamster. She is personable, funny, intelligent, and adorable. She is always involved in some hamster adventure. My hamster is all about attempting to escape and she achieves it quite often. She always gives herself away though by doing something loud and then I catch her. When she is not escaping, she enjoys running on the wheel, running in the hamster ball, eating, napping, and looking cute. She is really friendly and loves it when people come to her cage to talk to her. I highly recommend a hamster as a pet since they are such smart, wonderful animals.

Sat Mar 20 2010Biters? Solitary? Wow, we are talking about hamsters, right? I have had several hamsters. I was bitten once, and only then because I startled him accidently while he was sleeping. My current Panda Hamster has never bitten anyone, ever. No one, period. His breeder was great with them. He's far from "solitary". He's nocturnal, like all hamsters, so if you want to interact, you need to do it at night when he's awake. When it's about 7:00 or 8:00, he wakes up, eats, drinks, and does all his hamster things. If you put your hand in his cage, he'll run up and climb in. He's very friendly, but can be nervous around new people. He's not unique in his behavior, either. All my hamsters have acted that way. I think many people neglect to get their hamsters used to human contact. If s/he isn't used to people, well, of course s/he's not going to be very social. You can train hamsters to enjoy contact, not just tolerate it.

Wed Feb 24 2010I got one of these things back when I was 7 and I did not even want it. Sure it was cute,I had a male and female and the damn thing had a baby every 3 days and then ate them.it was awful and I dont even know what ever became of them..In other words there was no bonding between us.

Wed Feb 24 2010Hamsters have a tendency to be biters. Definitely NOT a good choice for young children. A hamster from a breeder, who hand raises them from birth, will reduce the biting risk but no guarantees. Very cute, but not terribly social. The only up side I can see, is the plethora of toys and accessories available for them. If you just want to watch them in their cage or little running ball, no one can deny their cute factor, but if you want a pet that will interact with you, not such a good choice.

Tue Feb 23 2010I remember that they had a few hamsters in my elementary school classroom. The hamsters had babies, and then they ate the babies. Ewww.

Fri Sep 11 2009Funny, furry little hamsters give no indication of their tendency to eat humans. Perfect for the in-laws kids. Make sure you keep them very hungry just before giving them away.

Sat Feb 21 2009Hamster's are very solitary creatures and very rarely enjoy being held, even more so, they do not play or interact well with other pets. These animals have been pawned off as being good pets for small children and it couldn't be farther from the truth. Small children have a tendency to hold animals a bit to tightly. Such actions generally produce a bit from a hamster, and the unwillingness for future human interaction. They make decent pets for older, more experienced handler's, and for people that aren't interested in too much interaction.

Mon Dec 20 2004Fat, smelly, mean little piles of fluff. I'd rather own a sewer rat.

Mon Oct 25 2004Cute but boring. And they make so much mess and noise. The are only good for kids, not a very interesting pet at all.

Thu Oct 14 2004They make excellent pets, and are a constant source of entertainment. They're always running, climbing, chewing, or just being cute!
