Haight-Ashbury

A young, earthy, hipster-ish neighborhood with fashionable shops and restaurants. For some reason, it’s always cloudy when I’m here. This region has good hookah lounges, Indian and Middle Eastern Restaurants, and hipster bars.

This is probably where I'd like to live if I had all the money in the world and wasn't your typical person breaking the bank just to live here now! The homes are old victorians and they are gorgeous. Sometimes I love just walking through the Haight and paying attention to the intricate detail on the houses. The shopping is great and you can find a range of expensive boutiques mixed in with vintage and thrift shops. And the restaurants are great! Citrus Club and the original Cha Cha Cha's are here and they are both decently priced and delicious. I just wish it wasnt so expensive to live in this area.

While Haight-Ashbury was once the center of counterculture in this country, its now filled with run of the mill stores with high prices. For the historical significance alone one should visit, but the area is just like any other area of a city that has trendy off the beaten path items. The area still attracts a lot of young people so there is a spirit there that is all its own.

IF UR LOOKING FOR THE 60's 45 YEARS LATER HERES THE SPOT TO BE .....IV NEVER EXPIRENCED SUCH A AMAIZING VIBE FROM JSUT A STREET BEFOR UNTILL IV BEEN THERE .... Hippie was buried in Golden Gate Park in September of 1967. You won't find him here.

Worth a stroll, but it seems to be marketing its own imposed image, than having a real identity as a neighborhood.

It's a cool part of SF history that you'd want to check out. Tons of independent artists and musicians called it home, and still it's where the hippies flock to. I've only been out there a couple times but they've been entertaining.

fun. but mostly a joke. looked like a lot of kids playacting at being a hippie. best part was amoeba records. also gotta love the left over hippies from 1967, wandering around in a 40 year LSD freakout

Interesting area to just hang out and people watch. The history of the place is what's so fasinating. The hippy counter culture of the 60's is what I always think about at Haigh-Ashbury.

This is where the hippie movement was born. It still lives there. A very cool place to people watch.

We enjoyed walking around the area and found a couple of decent bargains. If you're looking for filling, tasty food go to 'All You Knead' for lunch. Their breakfasts are huge and the pizza is wonderful.

i just got back from san francisco, and while there i spent a morning walking around the haight. it was nice, it had a much more interesting and laid back atmosphere than some other popular metropolitan areas. (ie, melrose!) there isn't a whole lot to do unless you're looking to spend some serious cash, but if that's the case, then head here. there's lots of cool thrift stores, amoeba records, and good food. (i had the most delicious crepes of my life on haight street.) to the person who mentioned the crazy bums-- you'll find those in any major city. it's true that the hippies have all but vanished, and been replaced by hipster freaks. overall, it's something fun to do while visiting SF, but nothing particulary exciting.

Too many drunks hassling people at the bus stop. Hoodlums hassling older people on the bus. Young people who looked like they had plenty of money blocking entrances to stores and asking for spare change. I appreciate the beat cops in this neighborhood but I don't feel they do enough to crack down on the misfits that hassle innocent tourists and other shoppers. There are some good, unusual shops. However, I quit going to the annual street fair a long time ago because of too many weirdos trying to hassle people and otherwise pick fights and cause trouble during this event.

The people are an attraction in itself. This should actually be "People of Haight-Ashbury". Although, in highschool, I could have been one of those people.

Haight reminded me of South St. in Philadelphia. Easily on the top-5 list of things visitors to San Francisco should try to get around to seeing.

There were a bunch of places to shop, but I didn't really find anything to buy. The clothes were a little on the expensive side, but if I had more money I probably would have spent it. The atmosphere was cool, which made it worth while. I did have a great meal there though...

A street filled with pierced freaks, drug addicts and drug dealers. Not much to do but spend money. The stores are overpriced and the people smell. Endless panhandlers. No hippies, they moved up north to Humboldt county.

I love to take my daughter and friends there to shop. The pieces we find are unusual and there is such a mix of people. We always have a great time and find great accessories.

Haight/Ashbury is highly overrated. The hippies have moved out of San Francisco and become yuppies and dot-commies. I hear the prices and selection of bongs and pipes here are pretty good, and the atmosphere is interesting. Amoeba Records is around here, and it's one of the best music stores in the world. But the thrift stores are trendy and ridiculously overpriced, and the hippies are GONE.

Awesome place, but lately big corporations like Gap and Banana Republic have somehow squeezed themselves in, buying out all the free clinics, cheap, budget style clothing stores, and bodegas. See it when you can. Stop by Truly Mediterranean, delicious Shawerma.

Ever since I discovered this area, I have been making frequent visits and indulging in food shopping sprees. Since it is in the city, I love driving there just to experience the city itself. Though filled with homeless bums and panhandlers, the ambience is still healthy and I appreciate its diversity.

I enjoyed walking around Haight-Ashbury and seeing some wild people, cool shops and interesting eateries and bars. However, if you don't know the history of it, you might just think it is an interesting part of San Francisco. The nostalgia, history, legends and myths of Haight-Ashbury is what is most intriguing. I wish I could enter a time warp and stroll around in the 60's. This was THE place to be for independent minds, musicians, artists and writers..and of course, Charlie Manson. Such an eclectic collection of people and events.

Walking up and down the streets where the hippie movement started gives me the best vibes. Absorbing this atmosphere is a must.

This is the perfect place to shop for different authentic clothing. It's stores are very diverse and interesting when I am tired of the mall scene and looking for a change. I go shopping here. The only problem is that there are some crazy bums.

The Haight-Ashbury is an interesting mix of nostalgia, intigue, and eccentrism. It takes the best of Berkely hippism and San Francisco appeal. The shops are with unique mechandise and interesting people. Plus, this area can be a destination spot as well as a jump off the spot to other S.F. attractions.

This is my favorite place to go shopping. Great for a variety of tastes. They have good shops, nice boutiques, and some great thrift shops. Also, Amoeba's is one of the largest music stores in the city.

Great shopping...bad hippies. Haight St. is like the hip hop headquarters. Good, cheap food. Record stores.

This is a way cool place. I've been there a number of times. It is a cool place for locals to hang out, and even better for out-of towners.

Haight Ashbury has been a favorite place to hang out since high school. Unfortunately it freaks most of my friends out. The personality of Haight makes the place.

Haight-Ashbury is overrated. Lots of people go there to waste there lives away doing drugs and living on the street. Rich people travel from all around the country and go to Haight to see people living like bums.

This place is so cool. The street is lined with unique stores and even more unique people all around. If you want to find something out of the ordinary or different, this is really place.

Haight Ashbury is trendy, happy, lively, multiethnic and a little expensive.

There are two sides of the Haight - upper and lower. Upper is home to the Haight-Ashbury intersection, lots of restaurants, and the former home of the Grateful Dead. Lower is filled with seedy, hard core drinking bars such as Molotov's, Toronado, and Mad Dog in the Fog, and cheap food and shops. I prefer lower.

Does it bother anyone else that there's a Gap clothing store on the corner of Haight-Ashbury now? Isn't that kind of ironic?
