Thu Sep 11 2008Comedy is something that I feel tends to be relative to its time and, therefore, more or less has an expiration date. This unwritten rule did not apply to Groucho Marx. If anything, he and his crew were quite the opposite and, looking back from 60+ years were actually very much ahead of their time. I think this is mainly due to the sharp wit and sarcasm that Groucho especially was so adept at dishing out – his comedy (not unlike political and social comedy that became the norm decades later) had a smart ass edginess that is still significant and amusing to this day. He could easily walk into a format like The Daily Show and be right at home.

Sat Mar 03 2007There ought to be a 500 foot statue of this man and his brothers somewhere. A true genius.

Sat Oct 29 2005Hilarious comic, and he has no peer. I enjoyed watching him fluster Margaret Dumont in his movies, and he coined some sharp witticisms, including the one about not wanting to belong to a club that would accept him as a member.
