Tue Aug 16 2011We have had our dog on this brand for about 4-5 months. At first we thought it was a great dog food because of the ingredient list and we loved the fact that 95% of the ingredients were the same except for the protein, so we knew it would be an easy transition while rotating. I was a little hesitant with only the first ingredient being a meat source, and not a meal, but, with the freeze dried raw coating having buffalo liver, I felt somewhat better. I prefer at least 2 of the first four ingriedents being meat and one being a meat in meal form so I know the protein levels are good, and the meat content is high. We were doing 2 bags of buffalo grain free, then 2 bags of chicken, then 2 bags of the salmon, all grain free formulas. But, lately the quality of the food seems to have gone way down and we were finding hair on every piece of kibble in the bags especially the buffalo ones and now our dog will not eat it. Therefore I can no longer recommend this brand. I did a internet ... Read more

Sat Feb 19 2011My dog starting eating Great Life grain and potato free Buffalo a few weeks ago and already I noticed a difference in her energy, her stools are nice and solid, no more gas and she has no more eye tearing like she did on Orijen. I love the fact that they use meat and not meal in their formulas if people only new what is considered acceptable ingredients in meal they would probably not feed it to their dogs. It's also comforting to know that according to their website the food as well as their ingredients are made hear in the US. The dangerous pesticides and poor water quality alone used by some countries overseas is enough to make a loving pet parent very concerned for the well being of their dog.

Fri Feb 11 2011I really wish people would reserve their comments after their dogs have tried the food. Yes it is important to know the company where the food is being made especially in light of the on going recalls in the pet food industry which have been one too many as far as I am concerned. Results and both short term and long term health are also important. Too many times I have seen companies with questionable saftey records get great reviews on products and companies that have no recalls or questionalbe ingredients in their food get slamed despite the quality of the food and a good saftey record. Go figure.

Mon Feb 08 2010I have a year old vizla golden retriever mix who was previously on natural balance. She did fine on natural balance except her stool was very inconsistant. Sometimes it would be good and other times runny. I also just wanted a more natural food. I like that great life uses free range buffalo and has no chemicals added to their food. My dog loves it and I am able to buy wholesale so it's only 36 dollars for a 33 pound bag. I also like their freezed dried treats like the Hawaiian chicken. Best of all my dog's stool is much better on this food. I have already recommended this food to several people and they are happy with the product especially since it is so cheap buying it wholesale.

Tue Jan 12 2010I have a 7 year old miniature poodle who is allergic to many food types and is the finickiest eater I have ever seen. Included in the allergy test results was a list of over 100 foods that she could eat. I tried about 7 dried kibble and over 25 wet foods. She turned her nose up to them all. That left me cooking homeade meals of chicken, rice, vegtables, fish oil, and other supplements for her over the last couple of years. While visiting in Palo Alto, CA I stumbled across Great Life Buffalo Grain and Potato free and bought a small bag to try. She LOVES it and we are 3 weeks into the new food! She doesn't like it totally dry though and I put a small amount of chicken broth on it and microwave it for about 20 seconds, stir until evenly moist and serve. I can't believe how much she enjoys it. First time in seven years I look forward to feeding time. And all the nutrients to boot! Expensive but well worth it since I know she is getting her daily nutrition needs met. Peace of min... Read more

Mon Jan 04 2010Got my GSD at 8 weeks from a breeder that fed strictly a raw diet. Did not want to go that route, but wanted the closest thing in a kibble. Tried EVO but the dog had bad diareah. Tried the buffalo and almost immediately had a big improvement. Also the dog loves the taste and eats up as fast as I give it to him.

Wed Dec 23 2009Its really expensive for what it is. The freeze dried food is good but to me the kibble doesnt seem to have much meat in it especially for the price.

Wed Dec 09 2009Our puppy (6 months old) has only been on this food for 2 weeks but the changes in him have been incredible!!!! It took an emergency trip to the Vet with severe stomach pains to find out that his food was contibuting to his problems. We were feeding him Science Diet - Nature's Best, which was recommended by our Vet and now he's on the Great Life Buffalo. After visiting DogGone Natural they highly recommended this food and we couldn't be happier. We have noticed a signficant improvement with his stools (less frequent and more formed), pain is gone, his scratching has decreased, ears have cleared up and his coat is so shiny and soft. (Our neighbors have even commented on his coat and noticed a difference). I can't begin to tell you how pleased we are with this product. Not only did it improve his health, but he absolutely LOVES to eat it! He doesn't even react to his treats the way he does when I place his food down in front of him.

Sun Aug 23 2009after 3 month of persistent diarrhea, extreme difficulties housetraining our puppy, meaning poop and pee everywhere, great life appears to be the life/nerve saver. I have been feeding it for 5 days and not even completely switched over to it yet, but the stools are solid and amazingly enough the puppy is also not drinking like a horse any more and all off a sudden no more accidents. This is the 4. food and the 1. one to be good for him (authority, orijen, blue buffalo). Must say I am really happy and he likes to eat it.

Mon Jun 22 2009When I first discovered Great Life I was very happy with it. It had all the right ingredients and my dog responded very well. We previously fed her Innova and she had lots of gas. Unfortunately in the last bag we bought we found pieces of plastic and/or cork, some odd looking ingredients. I contacted the Great Life people through their website and they offered to give me a refund and assured me they had NEVER had a quality control problem. I went to a new pet store and asked for it and they said they used to carry it but had to stop selling it because they found a quality control issue with the company.

Fri Apr 10 2009We see many dogs with health problems. The ingredient profile is fantastic. Switching to Great Life has saved dogs that were very sick, allergenic, prone to hot spots and more. Dogs using Great Life are happy, coats are great and health issues get resolved. This company really understands ingredients and uses only high quality in their products. They have a very unique product that dogs love. All of the ingredients needed for dog health are active not burnt our like other dog foods. They avoid marketing gimmicks!! Glad we found them...

Fri Apr 10 2009We rescued our dog Max and he was a mess. We tried many different raw kibbles and none really helped with his coat or energy level. We found Great Life Buffalo and he changed almost over night. His coat glows and his energy level is like he was a puppy again. He looks forward to meal time always. Our friends cannot believe the difference in him. Thank you Great Life for a wonderful kibble.

Fri Apr 10 2009We own a Rottweiler- when he was a puppy the vet advised to put him down due to his continued sickness'. We tried raw and other kibble brands- no luck. He still kept getting sick. A friend informed me of this Great Life brand..At this point- we were at our wits end and ready to take the vets advise. The change started to be noticeable in a short time, his eyes started clearing up, his coat started to sparkle, energy returned, he actually started to look happy. I was totally amazed with this food! We kept using Great Life and their treats. A year later we walked him into the vets office-the vets mouth almost hit the floor and could not believe this was the same dog. Did I mention that he won Best of Breed and is now a champion dog! God Bless Great Life........

Mon Jan 12 2009Being that I have a dog with lots of allergies and sensitivities, it's hard to find a food that agrees with him. It seems the Natural Balance Allergy Formulas were the only foods I have had success with. In the past I have tried raw, dehydrated, and different dry and canned foods. In the end he always gets some bad reaction from them. I have looked into Great Life Dog Food in the past and have always thought the ingredients were phenomenal, but never ordered it....until now. I weaned my dog onto the Buffalo Grain and Potato Free Formula using there Positive Health supplement (which is amazing, btw). So far, it agrees with him completely. No ear infections, no IBS, no runny eyes. I always thought this food was too good to be true, and now I KNOW it is.

Tue Dec 02 2008I have a toy poodle/chihuahua mix that is very finicky when it comes to dog food in general (won't eat canned, doesn't care for dry kibble much). So far of the 5 or 6 'premium' dry brands I have tried over the course of time he seems to like this and Nature's Variety Prairie formula best. Due to the grain content of the NV, I have switched Mr. Winki over to Great Life brand exclusively, and he still enjoys it. Now don't get me wrong, he doesn't dive into his food bowl each time I put it down, but this has been one of the only kibbles he will not turn his nose to & refuse to eat. He basically 'grazes' on a 1/3 cup serving over the course of a day, (yes, I free feed but he still maintains a perfect weight), so the fact that he eats it at all tells me he accepts the food. His feces are consistent w/ good texture and he has little to no gas. I like that the kibble size is smaller - he has tiny teeth and doesn't have any problems w/ the size of the Great Life kibble. Right now he is eating ... Read more

Mon Mar 26 2007Sign me up, this stuff looks amazing. It is very similar to the Nature's Variety Raw instinct in that they combine kibble with freeze dried raw meat. My only downside with this food, is that it is extrememly expensive. An 18lb bag of chicken costs over $40 dollers! Now me, I'm all for healthy nutrtion in pets, but there are some very similar kibbles out there that do not have to be ordered over the internet and are not that expensive. Great food, High price

Wed Jan 24 2007I adopted my dog from a rescue and she was really under weight. I started to feed her Great Life and saw great inprovement with her weight and fur. She gain the right amount of weight and her fur is super soft. Also, Great Life is easy for her to digest (she has a sensitive stomach).

Wed Nov 22 2006This food is well liked by my very picky dog who is doing well on it, and it is the easiest way I've found to feed a partially raw diet.
