Takes alot of running in , about 200hrs but worth the wait. Not the best looking headphone around and not the most comfortable on small heads but the sound quality is magnificent. At low volume these phones will amaze.I have been using these for 5 months and they are a vast improvement on the already impressive SR125.How much improvement is down to the oversize earcushion which creates a 'wall of sound' is debatable but if there is a better sounding phone outthere then i want them.

Until I bought my first pair of Grados, I found myself sending a lot of headphones back, including expensive cans from Bose and Shure. Louder is not necessarily better, especially if the signal separation is mud. It wasn't until I put on my first pair of Grados (SR80s) that I found the headphone equivalent of fine dining. Grado's open-air design may give new meaning to "goofy" but its crusade against resonance produces clarity that is just out of this world. I quickly became a Grado junkie, moving up the product line with a shameless disregard for the folly of paying $300 for the SR325i, $700 for the RS1, and eventually $1,000 for the GS1000. But like any addiction, nothing - no matter how good - can measure up to that original "high." The most impressive Grados are probably the SR60 whose $70 price tag made them an instant miracle. The SR80s offer better sound but the difference is not quite as impressive. My SR325i's offered better bass and better clarity, but by this point... Read more

Well...initially with my Antique Sound Labs MG Head OTL Mark III with a Telefunken 12AX7 and a pair of very nice J/J EL84's in OTL mode I was lukewarm with these especially when comparing them to my Sennheiser HD-650's!!! The typical "in your face" GRADO sound is gone and what we have with the GS-1000 is pure fantastic NATURAL sound. NO embellishment of anything musical!!! Nothing!!! Everything sounds as it should. Reminds me of my NEW.... FANTASTIC.... ACCURATE....... SET Quicksilver 2A3 MONOBLOCKS. Just simply the most articulate Monoblocks on earth and now i own the most articulate headphones. The Sennheisers are a wonderful pair of headphones BUT I would say the GRADO GS-1000 has just that little extra "refinement" in sound......A perfect 5 stars for the GRADO and with the Senns a 4.85. If the Grado GS's were stolen tomorrow and I had no money would I be totally happy with the Senn's YOU BET...but I just sink into my chair a bit deeper and with a bit more relaxation wh... Read more

As a previous owner of the fantastic sounding! Grado RS1 I am amazed at the sound reproduction of the new Grado Flagship model the GS1000. Right out of the box the audio quality is superior to the RS1's. Great sonic detail!, great sense of musical spaciousness!, great instrumental layering!, fantastic bass response!. I highly recommend the Grado GS1000's and if you happen to come across a "Black Dragon" Edition of the Grado GS1000's (Custom Audiophile Level Cables added for a greater sonic presentation!!!) grab them as soon as you can!. Enjoy!
