Ranked far too low on this list. Decent vocals and a number of impressive songs. "Iris" is unquestionably their best.

Well...I have been following this band since its conception (which gives away my age) and being of the female persuasion.....It was Johns looks that initially drew me in because he is without a doubt the most beautiful man that I have ever seen.....but having said that and let us put that aside (very difficult thing to put aside).........the lyrics are where it's at baby!!!! I have never heard a songwriter that puts the words down like he does. The lyrics have captivated me. Never mind that he is gorgeous...he is the most amazing composer of heart felt lyrics that has come along since......well there is just no one that compares. Many of his lyrics sound to me as though his heart has been chewed up and spit out more than once by one or more of us bitches...and if that is the case.....John I would like to say that we "the females" are collectively sorry for that....but without it.....these beautiful lyrics may never have been written. Thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts.... Read more

The Goos have kept their sound about the same for 20 years other than mainstreaming later into their career ...their acoustic-driven ballads such as iris, name, and black balloon have recieved the most credit...as well as slide, broadway, better days, we are the normal (a phenomenal song written with paul westerberg of the replacements), big machine, sympathy, and here is gone... their first chart-topper, name, in '95 from the album a boy named goo, triggered a distinct change in the goo goo dolls, they became more mainstream whereas, when they started out, they were pushed-aside for sounding too trashy and for being immitators of the replacements (another excellent band, which some people thought were simply a sloppy drunken punk band)...a boy named goo paved way for their most successful album dizzy up the girl released in '98 with the hits slide, broadway, black balloon, and iris....after dizzy up the girl came gutterflower which was an excellent album as well, with big machine, her... I guess they have the grungy rock-star look down pat, but their music you could play on elevators. In fact, elevator music is much more interesting and inventive. This is supposed to be rock music? More like rock muzak...

The Goo Goo Dolls used to be great with their old stuff. Albums Jed, Hold Me Up, Superstar Carwash, and A Boy Named Goo are all some of the best music I've ever heard. That being said, they've really sold out with their last two albums, Dizzy Up the Girl and Gutterflower. I still like their new stuff, but there's just no comparison between old and new.

The goo goo dolls suck. People who abominate the goo goo dolls are winners. Stop listening to the crap they write, becasue they are SELLOUTS, and a numbskulled band. All they are doing is killing rock n' roll and trying to be groovy by changing their music style from punk to the crap they write. Their hit songs are just plain commiserable and inadequate. I hate it when people say that their lyrics are consequential, because their lyics are crap about sex and drugs, common pop music subject matter. It is galling how people thing the goo goo dolls are great, when they are nothing more that part of the incommodious disco craze of the late 1990's and are a mediocre band that writes second-rate anthems. The Smashing Pumpkins have 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000X better lyrics, idiosyncrasy, vocalization, and overall sound. At least The Smashing Pumpkins can win 2 Grammy awards and the goo goo dolls can't. And The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is magnificent, and a gifted musicia... Read more

Jonny Reznick must be one of the most unlucky-in-love singers ever, he's always singing about his heart getting broken. However, I like his voice, I like their songs, even if they're often singing about the same stuff, I think more than anything else, his chords and bridges if you look at his sheet music or guitar tabs, is really cool stuff.

Absolute garbage. Like Everclear, these guys are obviously friends with someone in the recording industry, and are proof that you don't need to be any good to be famous, you just need to be played on the radio a hundred times a day by bribed dj's. Goo Goo Dolls suck suck suck.

I think the Goo Goo Dolls are a great group! They aren't fake like all of those "teen pop boy" groups. They really haven't changed much, which is good. In case there are some clueless people out there they are from Buffalo, New York

The goo goo dolls are a brilliant band, but here in Ireland we don't hear much of them. The only albums I could find were"A boy named goo" and "Dizzy up the girl". It's a shame really 'coz Johnny"s such a great singer and exellent guitarist.

When City of Angels came out, I bought the CD, but now, I couldn't tell you were I put it! At this point, I have heard them so much on the radio, I don't really like them, but there was a time when I wore out the CD.

The Goo Goo Dolls put their heart and soul into everything they sing, and they're great at what they do. When I listen to them, it's like being in a dream.

I really like the Goo Goo Dolls, both the new and the old music. They have been around since '85. John is a great songwriter and an amazing guitarist, Robby has a cool punk style, and Mike is an awesome drummer, I wish he got more credit. Some say they've sold out, but I think they've just evolved to be more sophisticated. There are still loud raw songs on Dizzy Up the Girl, such as "Dizzy" and "Bulletproof". And just about every song on that album that Robby sings is very much their old punk like the music on the Jed and Super Star Carwash albums. I really like the Goo Goo Dolls, and I think they'll be around for a while.

I dug their second(?) album, Hold Me Up, so much when it came out. I'm kind of embarrassed of that now seeing how sentimental they became. Jon Bon Jovi himself did less playing to the girls in the crowd...

Solid hard-driving rock. The lyrics can range from trivial to extremely interesting introspective examinations of various emotional conditions. The music is almost always very up-beat even if the lyrics are going the other way.
