Some real good archive footage of HST for younger pups like me who read Thompson's work in college and realized that me really missed his glory days of writing. . . Ex-wives/girlfriends. . .associates. . .politicians. . .and other writers speak about how they felt about a man who (quite simply) lived under no one's rules. It's a damn good documentary almost on the cusp of being great. Johnny Depp is solid as the voice-over narration. .. it's a solid rental if you're a fan of HST's writing. All the authors left are wimps now. . .

Although likeable, this documentary says more about the work and public persona of Hunter S. Thompson rather than the man himself. Filled with people who surrounded him, voice-overed by Johnny Depp, it makes for a suave, exploding and chronological journey through his career, from the times he covered Hell’s Angels, through his interest in politics, his trying to become sheriff in Aspen, all things feared and loathed to his eventual artistic downfall, in the shape where he became a parody of himself, to his suicide. Interesting, artistic, but I prefer “Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride”, another documentary on HST.
