Tue Nov 22 2011I've had the same issue as many others. I cancelled my membership, and still received automatic withdrawals for months. When I called to complain, all they could do for me was give me a thirty day notice to cancel. They didn't have my cancellation on file. I have never been this angry at a company before. If you do go to Golds, and decide to cancel, please keep all of your paperwork! lesson learned.

Sun Jan 16 2011I am now working out at the Golds Gym in Santa Cruz (CA) for one month. I love this gym! The staff is extremely friendly. I was given three sessions with an amazing coach (Jenny) in exchance for my 7-day pass - which gave me an excellent start. The equipment is excellent and new, and when machines are in maintenance, they are quickly fixed. The gym is not too busy, even in the peak hours. I was warmly received by Tre (membership director, I guess), who showed me the gym and conducted my paperwork in a fast and efficient way. I am extremely happy with this gym and I think it is a great value for my money. While it is true that the equipment is not always clean, I would say that this is more the responsibility of its users, who sometimes don't have the habit of cleaning the machines after they use them. One thing that particularly enchanted me is that the gym opened even for Christmas and New Years Day! I was simply in love with this place! Thank you, Golds Gym, for making my days so... Read more

Mon Nov 08 2010I joined in Wilmington, NC with the goal of improving my health. I explained upon signing my contract that I would only be there for 6 months. They said that I could cancel at any time, providing a 30 day notice. Come time to cancel, I found this termination process to be long and extremely difficult. First, you cannot cancel through the establishment itself, you have to fax a whole bunch of bullshit information to National Fitness. I had to provide 2 forms of proof that I was moving (for school), including a copy of my lease and acceptance letter to grad school. They wouldn't even allow me to fax this information in their facility...I was directed to fex-ex kinkos, which would have cost me about $15 dollars because of the amount of information they require. I did this, and found out 2 months later that I was still being charged for membership fees. Upon calling to see what was going on, I found out that they had no proof of my cancellation. I told them that I was not paying, even thou... Read more

Mon Oct 11 2010My Experience is worse than Terrible. I joined Gold's Gym in Green Bay because they were building a brand new facilty and it was supposed to have all the trimmings: pool, big workout room, and more. Well it seemed ok, until I finally went to the brand new facility. After leaving my locker for 11 minutes I had my lock cut off of my locker and my purse stolen. I had my keys thrown on top of my locker and a second set thrown in a locker across from mine. What did the operations manager do, or any of the personnel at the front desk for that matter, absolutely nothing. They stood at the desk looking like it wasn't their problem. They didn't help me look for my purse in the locker room didn't look in anyplace in the gym. They just stood there. What made this worse was the fact I was supposed to be leaving the state in a couple days so I had my debit cards in there. Now I never bring my purse with me because I don't like leaving it along but I figured it was the brand new facility no... Read more

Tue Sep 21 2010I was going to transfer my membership to the Gold's gym in Ahwatukee, AZ. I did a 2 week trial period first. I'm damn glad I did. It's an older gym with older type equipment. Some of the older stuff doesn't work as smoothly as newer designs, but that's not my rant. This gym is what you would picture as being inhabited by ego-driven steroid boys. The first thing I noticed was the loud punk like playfull threats they made amoungst themselves, like: I'm gonna kick your ass,,,,etc.. Ya, it's how they play but not what you want to hear when you work out. I figured it was just a matter of time before some idiot would try out his macho bullshit on me. Sure enough, the second week I was asked to get off a bench by an instructor running a new client thru a circuit. Evidently I didn't get off quick enough for one of the punks who shouted out: YOU NEED TO LEARN SOME MANNERS! I looked at the moron and walked away as he then threatened me. I also had a couple of guys tell me they were using a mach... Read more

Wed Aug 04 2010When me and my boyfriend wanted to try the "free 7days trial" we were told we can cancel it anytime if after 7days we decided not to keep it. So due to busy schedule we cancel the membership, and Henry (the guy i did the paper work with) said he's going to put our membership on hold for three months and when we're more comfortable with our schedule we can always call back in August to let them know if i want to continue or not, we can cancel anytime without any obligation. I thought that was a good plan. Later i found out im being charged $7 a month for every month my membership s on hold. I didn't care it was only $7. Then in beginning of July my back statement said i was being charged by Gold's Gym and so did my boyfriend's. We tried to call and speak to Henry but the receptionist kept saying we have to come in for that. I was disappointed in them for false information and trust with my credit card, and that is the main reason of me really wanted to cancel at this point. So we went t... Read more

Sat Apr 24 2010Gold's Gym in Woodstock--While I enjoy the facility a great deal because it is clean and has up-to-date equipment, the people who work there, including managers, are not very friendly. The sales guys act like you are just getting in the way...the trainers are nice but often harrass you becuase they are trying to get people to sign up. Also, they charge a yearly fee and do not send out any kind of warning a month in advance. When I called and asked about it, the woman on the phone said she guessed "they decided to charge the fee in April this year." Right after tax season; how convenient.

Mon Jan 25 2010Just try to quit and the cut-throats at ABC Financial will insist upon not only 30 days notice but also a CERTIFIED LETTER. Good grief, whatever happened to that cheerful membership coordinator at your neighborhood Gold's. If you don't comply, ABC threatens to send your account to collection, or maybe recruit some meaty dudes from the free-weights area.

Fri Aug 28 2009DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM (Redondo Beach, Ca). I was a member for a about 1 1/2 years. i always paid my dues on time. when i cancelled mgmt had the nerve to tell me that i still owed them next month dues and my last payment i made when i joined will pay for the 2 month after i cancelled. that is ridiculous. 1 entire year after i ended my membership i was sent to collections without notice. gold's told me they sent me invoices. i never received an invoice. it's funny how i got everyone else’s mail but gold's. you might be treated like royalty when you join but the gym is money hungry. the only care about the bottom line. when i started receiving calls from a collection agency i called gold's gym and spoke to the accounting mgr. said she will look into the matter. 1 week went by and i never heard from her. the most upsetting part was the collection agency was charging me more than double of the monthly fee i did not pay. I know that the economy has sunk and everyone is strugglin... Read more

Thu Mar 19 2009If you take even 5 minutes to research, you will find plenty of reason to stay away from Gold's. However, I know that you want to work out, they're convenient to your house or work and there really aren't any other convenient options. I just cannot say strongly enough DON'T DO IT. You will get screwed. Not only is it nearly impossible to ever cancel, other tactics they use is finding something wrong with your contract so they can charge you more or extend your contract, or putting "duplicate" charges through on your account. You'll also pay first and last month when you join but you'll never get that last month back...it's just a hidden registration fee. Right now, I have been fighting Gold's for 6 months. They increased my fee 6 months into a 12 month contract and extended my contract by a year and a half! They will not, probably cannot, provide me anything that shows why or how those changes happened, nor that I ever agreed to them! Just don't join. Even if it weren't f... Read more

Tue Jun 24 2008I signed up for Golds Gym around 2004. My debit card that was used for billing my membership was stolen a week after I started there. I called and gave them my new info but they never billed me so I stopped going thinking there was a problem with my membership. Last year when I was applying for a car loan i checked my credit report and nothing from Gold's Gym or any creditor was on there. That reinforced my belief that they just cancelled my membership somehow. Gold's Gym closed their doors last year and turned their business over to Urban Fitness/Global Fitness. I called and they had no record of my account being turned over to them. Last week I received a letter from Maverick & Associates wanting to bill me for $1500 for Gold's membership...for a 3 year + 1 year penalty. But the gym closed after 2 years and never attempted to bill me in the first place!!! This was the first I had heard from them and they were no longer in business. I attempted to call Maverick 3 times with... Read more

Wed Jan 30 2008Gold's Gym is shady. They have extremely poor customer service which includes rude staff members. On any given day there are broken down machines. These machines include spinning bikes, cardio machines, weight machines, and treadmills. These machines stay unrepaired for weeks on end. This is a multi-billion dollar corporation! There is no excuse. They also play favorites when attempting to sign up for classes. They allow one person to sign up their friends (who haven't even arrived at the gym yet) for classes. In other words most of the classes are not open to everyone.

Sat Oct 27 2007Stay Away from Golds Gym. Their Billing practices are the most mismanaged that I have ever experienced. They hand you over to collection agencies even after deducting the correct amounts from your credit card. Their equipment is dated and the Gym itself is overcrowded.

Thu Oct 11 2007Do not sign a contract with them. I paid for month to month and they put me in a 2 year contract. The contract is unclear and you have to go through hoops to seen your contract. Do not listen to what the sales rep sales because they will change it. Avoid this gym at all costs.

Thu Aug 16 2007I had a free membership pass to Gold's but when I went there just to workout and see the facility, they would not let me work out. They made me go on a tour and then made me sit in an office to go over the numbers. When I stated that I didn't want to join today, the sales representative said that I would have to pay $15.00 to workout despite having a membership card. I will never go back to that place.

Fri Nov 11 2005Gym is not bad but could be cleaner....BUT let's talk customer service. I was quoted one rate but charged another. They wouldn't even work with me or try to help. They just kept saying you signed a contract. Yes I did a contract that I thought had been filled out correctly. They changed the rate and when asked about the difference was told that it was tax. $3.30 on a $19 monthly fee. I got HOSED. Would not recommend and can't wait till my contract is up, so I can make a change.

Tue Sep 13 2005They tell you to sign a one year membership and screw you for two and if not paid they turn you over to collection agencies. Got to site www.ripoffreport.com
