Tue Jul 08 2008The recipe is a good old mix revived by more complex main characters whose friend or duty dilemmas give more suspense. In his 1st movie Brosnan shows a great potential and gives the right combination of style, toughness and humor. Some of his moves still need polishing, but good story and great action compensate for that.

Tue Jun 10 2008One of the 3 or 4 best Bond movies. While I thought the Dalton movies were ok I also agree that another one would have killed Bond forever. Brosnon has the right mix and makes the best Bond since Connery. The movies do seem to be getting bigger which in the long run may not be a good thing. This was definitely the best of the Brosnon Bond's and among my favorite of all.

Thu Feb 09 2006Peirce was a good Bond but the whole enterprise had run out of gas long before he got to it. They tried to pump it up with high tech special effects driven action set pieces. But they haven't been able to hide the fact that the franchise is tired, dated and there are no surprises left. A half dozen films was probably all that the character and concept could carry.

Wed Nov 30 2005It's definetly the Bond film of the 90s and brought back the Bond series from that disaster License to Kill.

Tue Apr 27 2004A great debut for the third greatest bond actor, Pierce Brosnan, and what I've thought to be Pierce's best film. What cemented the superiority of this movie over the others, to me, was the bestselling video game put out on N64. Playing the game for hours on end for the better part of a year made watching the movie all that more fun. So, not only am I suggesting this movie to readers, but I'm also suggesting they play the game based after the flick.

Tue Mar 09 2004Bond fans had to wait six years from Licence To Kill (1989) for the first appearance of Pierce Brosnan as 007 in GoldenEye (1995), and for the most part the delay was worth it. Brosnan injected some freshness and new blood into the series, and his portrayal of Bond is considered by many to be a combination of Sean Connery and Roger Moore. The beginning of the film works great to open with a flurry of action, set up the latter plot twists, and segue the franchise to the post Cold War era. The evil scheme is believable, the villains are tangible, and the Bond Girls are exotic. The movie also marks the debut of Judi Dench as Q. I have mixed feelings about casting a female in this role. On the upside, a female Q brings the franchise more in line with modern gender norms, but on the other hand, Bond was never meant to be politically correct (and there is something not quite British about it either). On another downside, GoldenEye has the series moving towards more special effects and... Read more

Mon Jan 12 2004O.K., I admit, I only wathced this movie because I knew Sean Bean was on it. I've never been into the Bond films. And boy was I pissed when I saw the first ten minutes. I thought, This can't be right! I was ready to throw a temper tantrum right then and there, although it wouldn't have done any good seeing as how I was watching from home on the USA channel, not in the theater. But I reluctantly watched through to the ending and was pleasantly surprised. That aside, I think Famke Janssen did a good job as one of the chief villains.
