Sat Jul 18 2009Just left my Lab Mix and my Persian cat at The Golden Bone in early July 09. From the beginning, I had a very comfortable and pleasant experience. When I called to inquire about availability, the manager I spoke to was very kind and answered every question that I had. I did have to put a deposit down for their "busy time" and that was understandable. (It was a nice pre-vacation down payment, actually.) I did want to know about staff to pet ratio which is very important to me....it is 1 employee for every 15-20 pets! Plus, the major selling point to me was that one manager has been there 20 out of the 21 years and the other manager has been there about 14 out of 21 years. When I came in for a tour, because I had both a cat and a dog, I inspected the entire facility and was quite impressed. The air condition is an absolute must for my pets! It was cooler at the Golden Bone than in my own home! After reading the other reviews, I must say that it makes sense to see concrete r... Read more

Wed Jul 15 2009Expensive, inside looks like a prison, poor hours, customer service is horrendous. Examples: - "Deluxe" room rates (the cheaper of the two types) are $23 for under 35 lbs for a concrete cube reminiscent of shelters. - Concrete 'walking area' indoors - 9-5 on weekdays only, never open on weekends and charge $40 plus an extra day's stay to pick up on the weekend, don't even have an answering machine for when they're closed so if something happens and you need to change plans while you're away for the weekend, good luck! - I've had several bad interactions with the owner, totally inflexible, lectures dog owners, generally rude.

Fri Jun 01 2007Oh, never mind...I thought it was Golden Boner. Then I realized comments weren't about awards to pharmaceutical companies making ED products.

Fri Jun 01 2007I understand that The Golden Bone was established back in 1988 and located very close to my home and my personal vet. I have used them since 1995 and know that their one manager has been there since 1989 and their other manager has been there since 1995. All three of their groomers have worked there more than 10 years and I must say that this speaks volumes of the type of facility that they run. They are a straight forward kennel that treats every single pet alike. Just because you have tons of money doesn't make your pet more special than another. When you walk into the lobby, you'll most likely see the numerous rescued greyhounds that they helped save over the years. Again, speaking volumes of the care and compassion that they exude. In my opinion, they don't need to offer the massages and swimming options, they are absolutely perfect for my dogs and cats. I never worry when I am away.

Mon Feb 05 2007My review is not a good one for The Golden Bone. Im new in Pittsburgh and not knowing the area I went to The Golden Bone based on a recommendation. The establishment is not in a very nice/good side of town. I drop my 5 month old puppy on a Saturday to get groomed. I was greeted by a gentleman who called himself the owner who introduced me to the groomer. The groomer was an extremely rude woman who seemed bother by me. I was simply trying to inquire about their services; all I got were short answers along with a bit of attitude. The groomer then took my puppy away to a back room without even asking my puppy's name. The owner noticed that I was bothered so he said Shes not much of a people person but she is great with dogs, shes been with me for 10 years. My thought is "Yes but I pay the bill." I left The Golden Bone feeling uncomfortable about leaving my puppy there. When I picked my puppy I was informed that everything went well and that she had been good. When I got home I n... Read more
