Before we were engaged, my (now!) fiancee and I went to a few ring stores to scope out the goods and get a sense of what we like. Neither of us thought a diamond was the way to go, and we were hoping for something special and unusual. I wanted to have a ring that I knew was totally unique and that I wouldn't see on everyone else's finger, but that was modern and classy. Needless to say, that is difficult to find! We never left a place with the feeling that we had seen 'the ring.' I thought it was going to be a long time before he popped the question. So, imagine my surprise when he proposed and there it was! An exquisite rare sea green sapphire set in platinum. It is perfect. It changes color depending on the light, is certified natural with no treatment and no heat (this is important for sapphires! treatment devalues them!), a 1.65 carat cushion cut. It is absolutely beautiful and gets many oohs and ahhs. I'm so glad he found Goldberry. It was the most wonderful surprise to see th... Read more

I had very little idea what I was looking for when I went into Goldberry, but Margie helped me build the perfect ring for my fiancé. All I knew was that I wanted a square cut diamond and gave a price range, and Margie took over from there. She showed me examples of different ring options for settings and bands, then explained how to identify a truly great diamond. By the time I left, my head was spinning but I knew exactly what I wanted after knowing nothing when I walked it. I went back to choose a diamond and a band and in a few weeks got the perfect ring that my fiancé absolutely loves- have a excellent 1.70 carat D color VVS2 clarity cushion diamond with 1.37 carats of D color VVS2 princess diamonds in the band.

My fiancée bought my engagement ring from Goldberry and I absolutely love it! The design is very unique and the diamond is beautiful - I get compliments on it ALL the time. Margie is very knowledgeable, has superb taste and you can always trust she'll give you an honest opinion. She takes great care of her customers and even offers lifetime free cleanings for your ring!

If you're ready to buy some beautiful jewelry, be it a diamond engagement ring or an emerald bracelet, I can't imagine going anywhere but goldberry. The quality at Tiffanys is SO overpriced - you can get such better diamonds elsewhere. Margie at goldberry gets you the whitest, biggest diamonds for the price. And she's Bob Dylan's ex-girlfriend, so you get a story too! She'll walk you through the whole procedure and spend as much time as needed teaching you about jewelry so that you can make an informed decision and get the best quality for the money. And her simple, beautiful lines are timeless. HIGHLY recommended.

Bottom line, I'm pleased with the ring I got for my wife, and I feel like I got a quality diamond and platinum setting at a decent price. I can, however, see why some people have written in their reviews here that they were put off by Margie's sales approach. In my experience she did a lot more talking than listening (talking "at" me, rather than conversing "with" me). But ultimately she is knowledgeable about the jewelry she sells, and the result (the ring) was nice, and fairly priced. To me, that's what was most important.

Engagement Ring Purchase- A great end to an otherwise terrifying process. As the title hints, this was a fairly scary process for me. I met the love of my life, I had money, now I needed THE perfect ring. My first stop: Tiffany & Co (Union Square, SF). The result: fear, intimidation, disappointment. I studied up on the 4 Cs, I set a budget for myself, and thought it would be as simple as walking in, picking a huge, brilliant stone, and walking out with that little blue box. Wow - was I wrong. I wasn't treated poorly, but it was clear that to them, I was simply just another boy who knew nothing about diamonds, had fallen in love, and was ready to part with a huge chunk of cash - as is the tradition. I couldn't believe how little (literally tiny) my money could buy in that store. That is not even to mention quality (or lack there of). My next move: google "yelp engagement rings in San Francisco" Near the top of the list was Goldberry. I e-mailed Margie and before she even wanted to set... Read more

What I found most important in my experience with Margie was her dedication to finding the best possible diamond ring for me. She is incredibly knowledgable about diamonds and has taught me that there is a lot more to diamonds than just the 4 “C”s. If you and/or your fiancé have looked at diamonds and they all look quite similar, you will likely not appreciate Margie’s expertise. But if you have noticed how some sparkle and dazzle more than others - you want Margie to help you find that special diamond. She is patient, very attentive to detail, and professional. She took the client service experience to another level with all of the time she spent with me. I had complete trust in her and am thrilled to have found a diamond with her that my fiancé and I both love. While Margie does prefer D color diamonds and encourages them, I told her that I was perfectly fine with an F color and she was more than happy to find the best possible F color diamond for me. Yes, Margie is an in... Read more

I found my way to Goldberry via online reviews, and went in with healthy skepticism (and plenty of anxiety about the whole process). Margie, who is quite a character, was very patient and helpful; she steered me in the right direction, and we ended up with a wonderful, non-traditional ring: 2.1 carat champagne yellow sapphire (natural, unheated) in a platinum band lined with D color diamonds. (And I promise I could never have quoted those specs before the Goldberry education.)

Goldberry is fantastic. It is absolutely the place to go if you are looking for top quality designer jewelry. I recently purchased the perfect diamond engagement ring there. My fiancée loves it, can couldn't be happier. Princess cut D color, super sparkling diamond, with a unique solitaire setting -- unlike any other ring I saw anywhere in the city. If you've been shopping for an engagement ring, you'll realize there is a bit of a tension of size vs. quality for a given budget. Choosing Goldberry, you are choosing to get the absolute best quality diamond within your budget (she sells only D color diamonds, as others have mentioned, and the diamonds have spectacular light performance). So if you want to flash around a ring that is heavy on the carats with lower quality diamonds (not a perfectly colorless D and/or lower clarity and light performance), then this is NOT the place for you (unless of course you have the money to get a lot of carats at of the highest quality). If, how... Read more

Margie at Goldberry does an excellent job guiding you through diamond selection, whether you're new or experienced in buying jewelry. Great service, honest and straight shooting advice, incredible craftsmanship and artistry. Sparkling now on a more than happy fiancee's finger... D color center cushion diamond, surrounded by D color diamonds in the band. "Bling, Bling" Myself, I was new, and this was an excellent buying experience - just makes it easier to go back and buy more beautiful stones for my lucky gal.

If you're looking for a stone that is truly unique and of the highest quality, this is the place to go. When I decided to buy an engagement ring for my fiance I had no idea where to start. I wandered into a couple of jewelery stores, I got the "Here's the biggest rock you can get for your money" routine and left feeling like the whole ordeal was kind of slimy. Goldberry is a completely different experience. From the moment you walk in you can tell Margie's stones are top end. Even her platinum settings looked artisanal compared to what I had seen before. She was kind enough to walk me through her entire collection(when you make an appointment with her you are the only person in the shop), told me about the different properties of the stones, and answered all of my questions. I originally thought I was going to buy a diamond. When I saw the quality of Margie's sapphires I decided that was what I was going to get (after dropping a hint with my fiance, of course). I was thrilled to get my ruby engagement ring from Goldberry, it's unique and stunning. The color is a gorgeous deep red which contrasts beautifully with the simple platinum setting. My fiance and I went in together to pick it out, because we wanted something other than a traditional diamond, and had a wonderful time talking wth Margie and learning about gems. The place is perfectly white and sparse, which makes the colors of the gems really stand out . Margie takes special care of the lighting too. It was a fantastic experience, I highly recommend Goldberry.

When I decided to propose to my wife I stumbled across goldberry in a magazine (7x7) and didn't think I would be able to afford Margie's jewelry. Nevertheless, I gave her a call and scheduled to go in and have a look. Margie was straightforward and accommodating and made me feel at once that I was working with someone that would not mislead me or try to sell me low-quality jewelry. While I ended up spending slightly more than I originally intended, I couldn't be more happy with the value. Margie was able to get me a beautiful stone (pink sapphire) that we have both been very happy with and we learned a lot in the process--Margie gave us invaluable pointers on how to take care not only of the jewelry we bought from her but also of the we already had and spent a significant amount of time answering our questions, reassuring us, and making sure we got exactly what we wanted; she didn't waste my time and was generous with hers, but she also wasn't shy about informing me if she thought... I recently purchased my diamond platinum engagement ring from Goldberry Jewelers. I checked out numerous jewelry stores and online. I did not think I could afford the very best diamond. At my first appointment in Goldberry the owner Margie Rogerson explained how the diamond market works and how the same diamond can vary greatly in wholesale cost.. With my budget I thought I would have to settle for an F or G color diamond. Thanks to Margie's thorough and extensive search I got a D color center diamond that is super sparkling and I got D color small diamonds around the band. I was quoted higher prices for lesser quality diamonds in the same design from other jewelers. None offered the small diamonds for the band in D color. My fiancee totally loves her ring. She has had her ring cleaned in goldberry complimentary so it stays sparkly. Margie is soft spoken and completely informative on prices throughout the process. Don't settle for less on an important decision like your enga... Read more

I hate to write something bad about people, but Margie was the least customer friendly person i've ever met. Perhaps if you are well-educated about jewelry and stones and are only looking for the best, then Margie is the person who can find it for you. If you are just getting up to speed and are buying an engagement ring for the first time, she can make the process dreadful. I knew i wanted a D thru F diamond, but with her E and F were not an option. I had picked out a very nice stone from a fantastic jeweler who was very helpful, but Margie convinced me she could get me a nicer one for cheaper (and i liked both types of bands and settings). So i went through her "process" of searching for all the stones selling at wholesale. She must have called me 7 times that day and rambled for 10 minutes each time without actually telling me anything helpful about what she was finding (including price). When i finally went over to Goldberry to see the results, all of the stones were actua... Read more

I wanted a colored stone, not a diamond, for my engagement ring and heard that Goldberry was the place to go for the best gem stones. Boy, is it ever! Margie found us the most stunning blue 4.51 carat emerald cut ceylon sapphire and to the great relief of my boyfriend, now husband, at an excellent price. Michel and Margie are so professional and informative and teach you so much about gems in such a short amount of time. Even the appraiser was just stunned at the quality of gems Margie is able to find. We love working with Margie and plan to buy many more pieces of jewelry from Goldberry throughout the years.

What a wonderful experience! Anyone who has engagement ring shopped knows that it can be a crazy endeavor. We had been through the ringer before Goldberry. Pressure sales at Tiffany. Hippy shops in Santa Cruz. On-line searches leading nowhere. Finally, we landed online with a great overview of what to expect at Goldberry. We gave it a go! Margie was wonderful, knowledgeable, and worked with us to create a beautiful ring in our price range. Walking in, I was dead-set on a pave setting with pink diamonds. Walking out, I learned about the wear and tear on different styles of settings and had the option to fall in love with multiple rare gems. I've had my ring six months now and wake up everyday still excited about it! We're looking forward to creating our wedding bands with her and know that we're planning to keep her for a family jeweler as long as she will have us. I purchased a lovely green sapphire wedding band from here. The selection of unique, but tasteful bands can't be beat. Goldberry did a perfect job of sizing the wedding band to match the shape of my engagement ring so that the two fit side-by-side, comfortably on my finger. I have also taken advantage of their lifetime offer for jewelry cleanings, and have already brought back my ring several times in the last year. They always restore my ring to its original beauty.

I recently purchased a diamond engagement ring from Margie Rogerson / Goldberry. It was important to me to have someone local, to work with in person, ask questions, and be available as I decided what kind of stone and ring to get. She helped me get a 1.51 carat round-oval D-color diamond, absolutely beautiful. Without her knowledge and assistance it would have been much more difficult to make sure I was getting a good stone and the right stone. She was available as much as I needed her - we had many conversations by phone, some at off hours, and she was never rushed or impatient. She also ensured that I got the right setting for the stone - a simple and beautiful four prong setting which highlights the diamond. Otherwise I probably would have gotten a basket setting which wouldn't have been as beautiful. Thanks to Margie, the ring came out perfectly, and my fiance and I are happily engaged and very excited!

Both my fiance and I were looking for something a bit more unusual (and not a diamond) for an engagement ring but at the same time somewhat classic. I did not have anything specific in mind, and Margie was extremely patient and helpful in showing me different options for a colored stone ring. I ended up buying a lavender-colored sapphire ring and it is absolutely beautiful. It is an unheated stone, and I can't say enough good things about it - it is just amazing. After seeing Margie's collection, I really don't know why anyone would want a run-of-the-mill diamond or go down the Tiffany or Cartier path. This is really an excellent place for engagement rings - between Margie's own cool story, super nice customer service and amazing stones, Goldberry is simply outstanding.

i got engaged a couple of months ago and my ring came from margie and i don't mean to copy everyone else but i don't know how else to describe it - i love love love love my ring! i have the most beautiful clear unheated AGTA certified pink sapphire with more than at least double the factes of the average diamond and people always comment on its sparkliness (i really did not want a diamond). my ring is a solitaire and is somewhere between a round and an oval. a lot of colored stones are treated to enhance the color but margie has the most amazing vibrant collection of untreated colored stones. she also has a passion for colored gems and it shows - she only picks the highest quality ones. i also loved just talking to her. she's a straight shooter and won't give you any BS. she's not there to make a deal and just get the sale- she's there to provide high quality stones to people who appreciate them.

I passed goldberry long before I was looking for a ring and I thought, "If and when I end up needing a ring, I'm going to check this place out". The pristine white of the showroom, the brilliant colors carefully and deliberately selected by the proprietor and the simple straight forward presentation caught my eye. Well, the time came, and I went straight to goldberry. I had read Margie's bio, and was even more interested. I made an appointment and we met. The whole diamond thing was foreign territory for me. I had done some research, and was ready for what I was setting out to do, but I really appreciated Margie's experience and clear opinion and attention to detail. She knows (and loves) the work she's doing and through our conversation I felt educated. I was able to pick an amazing diamond. I knew it was the one when I saw it. After reading reviews on Citysearch and yelp, I looked at rings at Tiffany, Cartier and highly rated jewelry stores in the city. The rings looked great on the goldberry website, so I made an appointment with Margie. Her ring settings are nicer than those at the other stores. She found the very best 1.50 carat round brilliant diamond in "D" color with excellent cut grade, excellent symmetry and excellent polish. I definitely recommend goldberry for the perfect engagement ring.

The experience of selecting a diamond at Goldberry was educational and, surprisingly, fun! Margie was a fine guide through the process and her approach is impeccable. There is no reason to go anywhere else if you want to truly get the best stone possible (which you should!). At the end of the experience, I not only have a good stone at a great price, but also the pleasure of having been a part of a process of finding the stone that was 'made' for my fiance. The setting was classic and very aesthetic. I don't even want to compare the experience here with oily salesmen at stores. Go look at all the styles in the stores and then go to this jeweller after you've done that!

My fiance proposed without a ring...because he knew that I'd probably want to pick it out myself...:) In our search for the perfect ring, we initially visited all of the top rated jewelers in the City (shops in Union Street, Union Square and South Market) but were not impressed with any of the stores. The sales people in these shops were either too busy to talk to us or for some reason did not provide the level of service that you'd expect when you're about to spend lots of $. Also, I didn't feel comfortable with the quality of the jewelry in some of the stores. Luckily, we found Goldberry at the end of our search. When we met with Margie for the first time, we both knew that Goldberry would be the place that we'd buy my engagement ring. We were immediately impressed with the quality of the jewelry and the level of service from Margie. Margie is doing this because she likes to do it. As owner and operator, her personal touch and expertise is on every stone and setting. People fly in to shop here by appointment because the experience is unparalleled. There's no one else in the store, you sit down together in an open white room and take your time. It's an intimate space. You don't need more than that when the selection is excellent and you're the only customers. Her platinum settings are exquisitely simple and elegant. The selection of stones, even for those seeking various colors of sapphire, is of the highest quality. Her service is impeccable, she follows up, and she insists you bring your purchases back for regular cleaning, at no cost, forever. There is no "but". She worked with our relatively low budget without blinking. Her prices are based in reality, not on some crazy overhead or walk-up location prestige gouging scenario. We're stoked.

By the time I went to goldberry, I'd been looking for an engagement ring for months. My girlfriend wanted a padparadscha sapphire. Margie, the owner of goldberry, found an amazing one for me: an AGTA laboratory certified unheated natural padparadscha sapphire cut to sparkle every bit as much as a diamond. Padparadscha sapphires, as I learned, are a pinkish-orange or orangy-pink color often likened to that of a sunset. They're beautiful, extremely rare, and usually highly suspect. Almost all are artificially enhanced in some way, which is often not disclosed. Some are basically counterfeited using beryllium diffusion. Suffice it to say, I had to find someone I could trust to buy a stone from. I found Margie. A few things distinguished Margie. She's a member of AGTA, a reputable trade group specializing in colored stones. Many of the gems in Margie's collection are certified by reputable labs like those run by AGTA or GIA, so you know what you're getting. And from Margie's web... Read more

When I started looking for an engagement ring, I thought for sure I would wind up buying it at one of the big name stores (Tiffany, etc.). The interesting thing was when I did web searches on jewelry stores in san francisco, Goldberry constantly came up as a result. Every review I read on Goldberry was positive. I was still a skeptic, but I thought that I needed to give Goldberry a try. Once I met Margie, I knew I had come to the right place. She's a no nonsense, straight forward kind of person which I found refreshing. While I had come in with an idea of what I want, Margie helped clarify things by explaining everything you could possibly imagine about a diamond. Color, clarity, light performance, etc. The way she works is that she actually *recommends* you go out and search for the stone you want, and then let her know. She then goes out into the diamond market and will shop it for the best price. There's no fancy lighting schemes, no tricks, and no deception. You give Ma... Read more

Goldberry completely changed my perspective and attitude towards the whole engagement ring buying process! Prior to discovering Margie (the owner of Goldberry), I had spent weeks visiting store after store throughout SF and the peninsula. Some places were ridiculously overpriced for what they offered. Some acted like used car salesmen, while others flat out lied to me about what they were selling. A friend finally turned me on to Goldberry and, after an initial call, my spirits picked up. Margie worked with me to figure out what's really important in a diamond that fits my specific needs and then searched the entire market to find all that matched. After sitting with me for over an hour pouring over a variety of diamond certs, we narrowed it down to three stones which she then had flown in for review. Once they were in, she again sat with me, going over each of the three diamonds to help me pick the best of the lot. It turned out that the nicest one was actually the cheapest of the t... Read more

Margie's services are ideal for those who want to select the perfect stone for them, and have it set in a simple, elegant setting that will highlight the gem. What sets her apart is that she will work with you to set the criteria for the diamond, search the market for exactly what you want, select the best possibilities, and then have them sent to her so you can examine each stone in person. We were very interested in cut quality, and she spent time to discuss the new ratings and to help us evaluate the stones when they came in. She charges a flat fee for her service, not a percentage of cost, so we felt no pressure to buy a particular stone or spend more. She is more like having a personal buyer than a store salesperson. I would strongly recommend going to Margie when you have already browsed some jewelry stores and educated yourself on the basics of the diamond and ring that you want.

I've been overwhelmingly happy since Saturday afternoon when my boyfriend popped the question (!) Without me ever knowing, he had been meeting with Margie for quite a while to pick out THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DIAMOND I HAVE EVER, EVER SEEN. He had made an appointment for us to have a ring fitting the next day and he told me how Margie had been so great, explaining to him everything he needed to know about diamonds and being very supportive without ever pressuring him to buy. When we arrived at Goldberry, the room was gorgeous! All white walls and a shiny white floor with sunlight streaming in. As with everything in life, if only the best will do, find the best advisor you can. The best advisors tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. High-end brand/stores make rings that can be replaced with similar rings with lower grade diamonds since more are available. Their focus is on high margins, telling you exactly what you want to hear, in a store with perfect lighting. With Goldberry, we got to design the exact platinum ring from the ground up. Also, we searched the entire diamond market consisting of stones for sale on the open market to find the 3 best to meet our requirements. We then brought them into the store to evaluate the 4 Cs, cut grade and fire in the outside sunlight, wow. If you want a truly shocking platinum engagement ring that causes a blush every time she looks at it, like ours, consider stepping up to work with a true artist, Margie. If you have been stressing on where and how to buy an engagement ring you MUST check out Goldberry. Every place I went (I went everywhere) salespeople kept trying to talk me into a ring that I did not like, showed me stuff that looked basically the same as in every other store. I also looked at loose diamonds. The jewelers and diamond dealers had some choices in loose diamonds but never exactly the perfect diamond that I wanted or could afford. Margie the owner spent a lot of time with me on the phone before the appointment. goldberry is by appointment and it is totally worth it because you get personal attention and as much time as you want without the pressure. Margie explained in detail how diamonds are graded and asked lot of questions about my budget and what was important for me in term of quality versus size. It is really confusing buying a diamond and generally the salesperson lost interest and moved on to to someone else when I asked too many questions. The conversations... Read more

"Every one wants a great experience when shopping for engagement rings and wedding bands! So, My fiancee and I decided to give a call to set up an appointment. From the beginning of the call we were both pulling our teeth! She was very clear (repeatedly might I add) that they custom make all of there settings and that they do not have actual diamonds in their store to look at! They figure out what you are looking for in a diamond and then find that stone for you at the best price. Great! Except we asked four different times if they hand anything physical to look at "IN THE STORE." Every time the question was posed we went through another long drawn out explanation about how they do not have the stones in the store and that we clearly had been lied to by every one else! Why? Because I could answer all the expert questions about diamond cuts and shapes. I am not an expert. Nor would I try and act like one. I gave what information we knew about the stones we had looked at and liked. B... Read more

I recently bought a diamond engagement ring from Goldberry and I found the experience to be thoroughly fantastic. Buying your first diamond ring is an intimidating experience; with so much information to try and absorb, I walked into stores feeling like the diamond seller held all the cards. Not so at Goldberry, where the proprietor Margie's no-nonsense demeanor was enormously helpful in guiding me through the often confusing process of buying a diamond. The store is clean and clear of clutter, letting the jewels and jewelry speak for themselves. Similarly Margie was clear about the quality of her work and avoided any of the cagey 'sales-person' double-talk that I found so intimidating at other stores. At no point did I feel pressured to make a decision before I was ready to do so. Margie respected my budgetary concerns, and was frank and honest about what to expect. The ring she delivered was extremely beautiful, with classically elegant lines and a stunner of a diamond. I am beyond... Read more

Goldberry truly is an amazing place. If any of you are reading this and thinking about purchasing one-of-a-kind jewlelery, do yourself a favor and check this place out. I recently purchased a stunning diamond engagement ring with Margie's assistance and could not be happier that I decided to use her services. She takes the time to first get to know her customers and what it is they are looking for in a particular stone. Then she scours the market and finds the best product available for the best price. Nothing else came close to the exceptional service provided by Goldberry and I would be remiss if I did not tell every single person I know that was looking for orirginal jewelery to see Margie before purchasing elsewhere. She provides outstanding service and the quality of her work is unrivaled. Do yourself a favor, see Goldberry. Trust me.

My husband bought my engagement ring from Margie, a very gorgeous sapphire whose color I haven't seen any place else. It's not the fuschia color. It's the real deal. We were equally pleased with the service that Margie provided in getting our wedding rings to us in a speedy fashion. We knew she'd given us an incredible deal! She was very kind and helpful and never failed to be available and willing to help despite having numerous customers. She's definitely an educator on the ways of fine jewelry, and you can tell she loves her trade adn cares about her customers.

My husbant purchased my engagement ring from Margie and we couldn't have gotten better service or a more quality piece of jewelry. She walked him through buying an excellent diamond and set it in a unique and elegant setting. We loved working with Margie so much that he went back to her for a present for me after the birth of our first baby...one of her stunning pink sapphires. Again, the stone and setting are beautiful and his experience was great. If you're looking for amazing jewelry and a totally comprehensive service, call Margie and make an appointment. She'll teach you as she crafts something beautiful just for you.

This is the most romantic jewelry store I have ever been in. It is all white and filled with light. The goldberry jewelry is truely special. The designer was incredibly helpful and friendly with no pressure like most of the other jewelry stores. I purchased a beautiful rare pink sapphire engagement ring at a great price ! I never saw in any other store a selection of sapphires like this. My fiancee absolutely loved the ring. This was the best shopping experince and I have told my friends to check out goldberry.

First and foremost, buying an enagement ring is suppose to be fun and a memorable experience. The customer service here was awful. She was a SNOB and rude. The jewelry was nice and high end but nothing more than what you could get elsewhere--not very unique.
