Although I do remember Ronald McDonald making "personal" appearances at the local Mickey D's,I can't say it's a great memory. Even at that tender age,I knew cheesy promotion when I saw it.

Absolutely. What kid doesn't love McDonalds? Their play area which used to rock, is starting to suck more and more. Which was a big reason kids loved going there. Still with the Happy Meal and stuff, its a cool place to take em a few times a month.

With the exception of Subway, I rarely go out for fast food anymore. But I still remember as a child going to McDonald's after shopping with my parents. I always liked the Big Mac, but I couldn't eat all of it. So Mom and Dad would cut in into quarters which would take me the entire evening and the next day to eat. But I still remember the taste of it. And it was a rare treat to have. Is it just me, or were Big Macs bigger and better back then? And maybe this sounds weird, but I always thought they tasted better in the orange-yellow styrofoam boxes they use to come in. My sister brings home a Big Mac, and they just look and smell...awful! Just a thought.

The golden arches advertised over one million sold... and drive through windows hadn't been invented yet. Order a burger, fries and soda, and they gave you change for a buck. Always prefered the cheeseburgers. I think they may have used real beef back then... can't be sure, but the memories still taste better than the cardboard dipped in grease that they serve today.

a 3.5 as a kid I loved going to McDonald's. for some reason the food seemed better back then. I was too old for the happy meal by the time it came out. instead just having a cheeseburger small fries and  soda all for about 60cents.{ if I remember right} funny that now Mcdonald's does not taste the same not the same treat. nice back then though.

I loved going to McDonald's, but I outgrew the Happy Meal faster than most kids. By the time I was 7 or 8, I wanted a quarter pounder with cheese meal. More food was worth more than whatever piddly little toy I could get.

Oblivious to the harmful crap that was in the food, I relished all the times I was taken to this eating establishment.  The chicken mcnuggets were my fave...and still are to this day.

I remember whenever my parents mentioned that we were going to a restaurant when I was young, my siblings and I would immediately request McDonalds. Now as an adult I would take almost any sit-down dining experience over Mickey D's. However, as a child there was nothing more exciting than a Happy Meal with fries and a burger.

I remember that in 1970 in Philadelphia, there were very few McDonalds. The big burger joint in old-time Philly was Gino's, a chain owned by former football star Gino Marchetti, who also owned the rights to sell Colonel Sanders chicken. But I was hooked by the McDonalds TV ads and I begged and pleaded with my mom to take me to McDonalds. At last she did. The first time I sank my teeth in a McDonalds burger (Probably number 13,123,078,992 sold), I spit it out. It was loaded with onions and I hate onions (still do). Definitely a case of anticipation greatly exceeding realization. As for Gino's, I think Roy Rogers eventually bought them out.

There were no drive through windows, there were no happy meals, there was no Big Mac, there weren't even any tables and chairs. You got out of your car, walked inside to place and pick up your order, and then went back out to the car to eat it, and when you ordered, you told them how many 19 cent hamburgers and fourteen cent fries you wanted. No large, no small, no options. Burgers and fries, fries and burgers (and shakes). My brother had a friend who used go to McDonalds and order something that they used to offer called The House. It was a cardboard container shaped like a house and it held 40 hamburgers. The guy would eat them all in one sitting. My grandfather didn't believe it so he said to the kid when they met at a later date that if he (the kid) could eat a house, he (my grandfather) would pay for it. He did and he did. A dollar would feed almost any kid and in many cases you'd have a little change left over.

I think the hamburgers were fourteen cents when I was a kid, and there was no such thing as a happy meal. But my friends and I used to ride our bikes (Sting Rays had just come out) to the local McDonalds. At that time they were not on every corner and they really were considered something special by kids. My father on the other hand hated McDonalds. When ever we would ask him to take us there, he would just say Yuck and literally shudder. Eventually he would take us but he wouldn't order anything for himself. He never did learn to like McDonalds, lol.

Oh, yes. Going out to any fast food joint was a real treat. The places we had were Burger Chef, which also gave out happy meals and a place I don't recall the name, it was ice cream and corn dogs. I loved that place. Getting a corn dog.. really dipped in batter and fried, not premade junk and a butterscotch malted. Yummy. Oh does anyone remember the old drive-in's like A & W? Those were a lot of fun, too.
