Fri Feb 08 2008I have a 2000 ZR2 Sonoma Highrider 4X4. It had 134,000 miles on it when I bought it and 144,000 miles now. This truck can haul about anything you can fit in the bed. Reasonable gas mileage at 21 MPG on the highway (highway treads). Tough enough to conquer an off road trail or two. The V6, 4.3 Vortex engine has plenty of power. I love the way it sits higher, and is about 4 inches wider than the regular Sonoma. I enjoy driving this truck, and will probably be driving it for quite some time.

Wed Dec 06 20061997 4.3 Vortec V6 with over 175,000 miles and the only repairs have been: tires, brakes, ignition, Cat convert., serp belt., water pump. All cheap, easy repairs. I expect this thing will go to 300,000 miles. Still has original clutch!

Mon Jun 06 2005The GMC Sonoma is a nice S.U.V but if you are looking for a rating just for this GMC please don't look at this one. This is a rating mostly for General Motors. Stand for General Motors! I can't say this enough but people don't want to do this. People would rather buy Toyota or Scion or Honda from the Japanese who don't like us over here in America because we droped the Atomic Bomb on them years ago and that is also the reason why the want their autos to take the number one spot in sales from General Motors! I think the big reason for Americans buying Japanese autos is that most of us think that the Japanese are the only ones that make compact Autos. That is so false! General Motors has been making compact cars. General Motors makes the Saturn Ion and the new Chevy Cobalt and more compact cars that are easy on the gasoline. I don't think a hybrid S.U.V or hybrid car has been made by General Motors yet but their is another American Automaker that makes a hybrid S.U.V and that is Ford(the... Read more

Mon May 10 2004had one for a year and have had no problems with it, but it has less than 10k miles on it so i wouldn't expect to. the only negative thing i can think of concerning this truck is depreciation but since i plan on keeping mine for the next 10-15 years that shouldn't be a huge problem.

Tue Jun 03 2003I have a GMC Sonoma ZR2 (Highrider). It's been a great vehicle thus far. I haven't had it off road but have been through some nasty snow sleet and rain with it. Gets me where I want to go and looks great doing it. I had a Jimmy before it and it was good too. Did'nt get another because I needed the hauling capabilities. Has a very good engine with the vortec 4300. Have been pulling a 4000 lb trailer with no problem. Can hardly tell it's back there. Would buy another Sonoma, but figure this one to last me forever.

Thu Jan 25 2001I had a GMC Sonoma for about 3 years before trading it in for my car. It was 4 wheel drive, but nothing fancy otherwise. I never had a single problem. It's V6 engine was more than adequate even when carrying a heavy load in the bed, and it rode comfortably and handled well. The air conditioning and heater did a great job. It was an extremely reliable vehicle and I would buy another if I were in the truck market.

Mon Aug 14 2000Either a defective or sub-standard clutch installed by manufacture..Clutch failed at 56k miles. GMC customer rep said "there is not much I can do about it."
