Ghostbusters (1984) Film Review 'Ghostbusters' is an exemplary otherworldly parody movie coordinated by Ivan Reitman, delivered in 1984. The film includes an elegant cast, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Sigourney Weaver, who bring an ideal mix of humor, fascinate, and paranormal energy to the screen. The story spins around three unusual parapsychologists - Dr. Peter Venkman (Murray), Dr. Raymond Stantz (Aykroyd), and Dr. Egon Spengler (Ramis) - who lose their college financing and choose to begin a phantom getting business in New York City. They are before long joined by Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), and together they become the Ghostbusters, handling heavenly events and saving the city from spooky attacks. One of the film's most grounded focuses is its clever and paramount exchange, generally determined by Murray's improvisational abilities. The science among the cast individuals is unmistakable, adding profundity and legitimacy to their associations. The... Read more

I purchased a couple of the James Bond Blu-Ray reissues such as Dr. No. The restorations (I think they slang them "4K"'s) were almost too good. I could see the makeup on characters. a mole on Sean Connery's face. The scenery and coloration were awesome, but in some ways it was almost too good. Sad to say, Ghostbusters does not follow that quality of restoration. The story and comedy are second to none. The effects still hold up after 25 years. But honestly, I've seen better quality rebroadcasts of this movie on my cable provider's HD channels, and we all know how much they cut the bitrates, despite their denials. It appears they spent next to nothing on restoration of this movie. It certainly rates as good a treatment as Dr. No or From Russia With Love. You won't find a more sympathetic reviewer than me towards this movie, but I just can't understand why no one cared much about the video quality. It really looks little better than a DVD upsampled on a high-end DVD... Read more

For this review I'm not going to really go into the movie. Most people have seen this movie or at least have an idea about it. It's one of the best comedies from the 80's. I've owned this movie on every format, VHS when I was a kid...DVD, and now the Blu Ray. Lets talk about the most important thing first, the transfer. While it is a step up from the DVD, I still feel like it could have been a lot better. The film seems way too bright in some scenes, the contrast is definitely off. It's not horrible, it's definitely the best transfer so far albeit only a small step up from the DVD. Unlike the picture I'd say the audio is near perfect. This movie hasn't sounded this great in a long time. Everything is spot on from the ghosts to the proton packs. I was really impressed with the sound mix. Now onto the special features. First up is the commentary from Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis, this was recorded back in 1999 but is still a great listen. You also get 10 delet... Read more

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. But the Blu-Ray transfer is so shamefully bad I couldn't bear to watch more than a few minutes. It looks like they transferred an old theatrical print that sat for 20 years in a moldy apartment. The grain is HUGE and the image actually flickers from time to time. The original DVD transfer may be more compressed, but it's far more watchable than the Blu-Ray. It's a pity SONY didn't try a little harder to release a quality product.

First off, I love this movie, HOWEVER, it looks terrible on blu-ray. Tons of artifacts everywhere and all around very grainy picture. If you have this on DVD, keep it. DO NOT BUY THIS BLU-RAY. So not worth it. And they can't use the "well it's from 1984" as I have Blazing Saddles on Blu Ray and it's amazingly crisp and it looks like a new movie. GhostBusters sadly looks like you're watching it on normal TV (or roughly so). sad panda...

Ghostbusters is great, but I realize that might be because I grew up with it. I loved just about anything Ghostbusters when I was a kid. Not only did I watch the movies, I watched the cartoons every Saturday morning.

Good, but not great. Oddly, I don't even really think of it as a comedy as much as I think of it as a "summer movie"--I remember it came out during the summer and it seemed like the type of movie everyone was supposed to see. I didn't see it then; I had to catch it on TV years later.

Enjoyed this movie when it was released in the 80s it is hard to watch now. The special effects dominate the film and the soundtrack is very much of the era. (Semi-disco?) Bill Murray was just O.K. and the rest of the cast is just O.K.

A cult classic with some wonderful one-liners. I still can't believe that Sigourney Weaver is in this one. Seems like such a far cry from Aliens....Great movie.

I liked this movie. It had a decent plot for a funny movie, which is often a rare thing in a good comedy.
