Getting old

Hope I  die before I get old... UPDATE: Consider the alternative.

If you want to get depressed about aging,concentrate on not being able to do the same things the same way you did 20 years ago.If you want to enjoy life,concentrate on doing all the great stuff you still can do,and the other stuff you can do even better now with all the years of experience and practice.

What a dread it must be to fear aging. It is happening all the time, it's unstoppable. There's nothing you can do to fight it. You can live well, try to be healthy, that will improve the quality of your life. But that isn't going to stop the pages from falling off the calendar. Fear it not. I admit I'm a little concerned that incontinence might one day be an issue though.

I'm not afraid of getting old because it's just a fact of life nobody can avoid no matter how much they try. You can put all the hair dye in your hair, apply face creams to your face, and get all the Botox injections you want, but it won't change the reality of what's really happening.

No, it's part of life, but once again, getting old alone would be horrible. I need another saggy person with me to argue with right?

On the one hand, it doesn't bother me. After all, who among us is getting younger? On the other hand, while I'm still reasonably far from "old age" as such, I'm finding more and more things starting to go wrong, things that I never even thought of, much less worried about. My cholesterol is high, I'm suffering from heartburn when eating anything but the blandest of foods, my stamina isn't what it used to be, my heartbeat sometimes seems erratic, I used to have the proverbial cast iron stomach and now my stomach troubles me almost as much as my headaches used to, my hair is going gray, the fat doesn't melt off magically like it used to when I run a few laps...and on and on and on. What it comes down to is that I don't necessarily mind old age...beats dying young, now that I no longer have that option...but the illnesses and debilities and indignities that all too often accompany the aging process do scare me. This is like fearing the sun rising tomorrow. I see no reason to fear what is inevitable. In fact I hope I get old, considering the alternative is to die (relatively) young.
