Their genesis was a revelation, but slowly descended into the land of confusion.

I like them but their material is too repetitive and the overreliance on synthesizers blunts its impact. It has '70s and 80s written all over it.

It's about time - Back in the NYC! - Genesis are original, creative and excellent musicians! They were well ahead of their time when they began and still are now!

Wow, it took them along enough to get in there! Downside, due to prior commitments, former lead singer, Peter Gabriel, won't be performing with them when the ceremony takes place.

Please tell me that the voters decided to bestow the honour on the band due to the surprise passing of Phil Collins in a bizarre knitting accident over the weekend.

Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins alone are enough to warrant being in the RRHOF. Get 'er done!

I'm on the fence with these guys. Never a big Genesis fan. But millions are. They need to wait their turn.

To me, Genesis is like Jefferson Airplane/Starship in that the music made by earlier iterations of the band merit their induction into the HOF but their newer, more commercial material is some of the worst stuff I've ever heard. The "old" Genesis with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett should have been inducted years ago. Their influence on prog rock cannot be overstated. When they were reduced to the trio of Collins, Rutherford, and Banks they were still good but after the ABACAB album pretty much everything they released was radio friendly stuff that stiffed with hard core Genesis fans. Considering their complete body of work, which I consider more favorably in terms of their earlier material, Genesis deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

It's really two bands, with the gabriel era being hugely influential on the prog rock scene and the phil era defining the mainstream sound of music during the 80s. Shoud be in but the HOF's bias against prog rock rears it's ugly head again!

Should they be in by now? Absolutely. If you want talented musicians in, they fit the category (Tony Banks, Mike Rutheford and yes, even Phil Collins, throughout most of their career and Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett in their early years). If you want hits, they fit the category (That's All, No Reply At All, Misunderstanding, Throwing It All Away, I Can't Dance). If you want a band that's stayed together for a long time, albiet with personnel changes (the Rolling Stones had personnel changes and so did Parliament Funkadellic and the Grateful Dead, so don't tell me that should keep them out!), they fit the category. If you want classic albums (The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, Duke, Selling England By The Pound, A Trick Of The Tail and even Abacab and Invisible Touch), they fit the category. "Twelve o'clock and it's time for lunch, dum de dum de dum...."

Yes and Genesis were phenominal musicians with complex musical themes.  They had success in wonderful music, and had success in pop charts.  They sold out stadiums all over the world.  Ignoring progressive rock, but putting in pop and country music offend true rockers.

I think that Genesis is one of the first British Progressive Bands that used costumes and masks.

Supper's ready...shouldn't the hall of fame be ready as well? On the strength of the early stuff, like a number of border-induction bands (Chicago, Moodys) they stumbled some in later years but I say let the lads in (after DEEP PURPLE, of course)

Pros: Innovative prog work that managed to make a dent in the mainstream, resulting in plenty of imitators and thousands influenced. Cons: A lot of their sounds are rather dated, no real wall-to-wall killer albums (plenty of filler)

Suffers from both the prog-rock and pop-rock bias, as well as Gabriel's and Collins' solo careers. But, the group has too much influence and hits to ignore.

With Gabriel, Without Gabriel. That's the beauty of this group. It was two (perhaps three) entirely different things. It was Gabriel/Banks pallet to create art rock (amazing art rock at that). It was the band that help to mainstream prog rock. Duke is definetely not the same Art Rock standard as LLDOB. But there is great musicianship and the story is accessible. Later, the band turns truly commercial, but as another poster wrote - they were the biggest band in the world for a time. For those of us who love prog rock, that almost hurts, because our love of the music is what sets us apart. But it's an amazing transformation. And it's the reason this band should be in the Hall.

Next to GFR, they're my favorite all-time band!! Hard to believe that with the talent this band has produced-- Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks--that they aren't in already!!

Great band, but kinda dissapointed. What have they done for the fans during the past 13yrs or so? Phil was a cheap shot, the band was very successful and he left. When he left he never look back. I say Phil should get back with them and do a Fans appreciation tour. If they dont do it,....it's a good thing that they will never be inducted. Wake up smell the coffee Phil.

Although I am biased since Genesis is my all time favorite band, their ground-breaking Art Rock performances in the 70s and top notch musicianship throughout should have gotten them inducted 10 years ago. It is a travesty.

I may be the last person on Earth who still likes the Collins-era Genesis. Gabriel's Genesis doesn't do it for me personally, but obviously they have many hardcore followers to this day. As for '80s Genesis, people seem to have forgotten that they were one of the most popular bands in the world for a few years. They are kept out only by the RRHoF's bias against bands that used a synthesizer as a lead instrument.
