G.E. Monogram (Built-In Side-by-Side)

I have owned a 48 inch Monogram GE refrigerator since we built a new house in 2004. Never again. The first one was replaced by GE in 2006 after much wrangling with the home office. The second one is just as bad. I have thrown out food innumerable times usually at the holidays when I need refrigeration most! We live in a warm climate so I can't just toss it outside into the snow. A week ago (New Year's Eve) it quit cooling—that is always the problem and it still is not fixed as the part needed was not available (a $383.50 inverter). The part carries only a two year warranty, something I consider outrageous on a very expensive refrigerator. Additionally the technician from the last fiasco in November of 2006 (when the second one was 8-9 months old) told me there is a basic design flaw in the way the cooling works. Piece of crap-the previous commenter will find out soon enough-food ruined-the warranty on the items is a lie-this company needs to be sued-it has duped so much money out of horrible products!

I would give it a minus if I could. Unbelievable. I have a 3 year of GE Monogram side by side and the freezer fan quite working. The cost $300 for parts and repair!!! The front side panel on a three year of GE Profile microwave broke off due to brittle plastic tabs. It's called cheap manufacturing!!! Then the light stopped working on the inside of the microwave!!! :( Unbelievable. I've bought cheap Sears appliances that had a better life span than GE. As a matter of fact, I've owned Sears appliances for years without any problems. Highly recommend not buying GE appliances as it is all cheap appliances designed to fall apart within a few years. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

We don't actually have the fridge, but I feel compelled to share our experiences with a Monogram gas cooktop (for those of you out there that may be considering a suite of matching appliances -- not bloody likely after reading these scathing reviews...). The cooktop makes a continual humming sound which GE engineers advise us is NORMAL. This is the transformer that provides spark to the burners. When the house is quiet at night, I can hear this thing humming from across the room. I have $20 products with plug-in transformers that are silent...GE engineers can't do the same on a $2,000 gas cooktop? Pathetic engineering. I hope we don't experience similar letdowns with the other new GE Monogram appliances in our kitchen, but I'm not taking this as a hopeful sign...

I have owned my GE Monogram side by side for 1 year and 2 months. It came dented and they had to replace the doors twice before they gave up and replaced the whole unit. I bought the extended warranty because things are just not built well anymore. After not even a year, the freezer had problems and the seals were replaced. It has broken 4 times since on the freezer and fridge side. Right now my fridge is currently broken and they told me it may take more than a month to order the part that is backordered. They gave me $200 for food credit, but who cares when for the past 2 weeks I have had to go to my basement dorm fridge to get milk for cereal in the morning!! Just the worst piece of garbage I have ever owned and this is my 4th house with my 4th refrigerator. I recommend Whirlpool Gold or buying a second fridge if you buy this one because it is not going to work and you will need a back up.

I currently own a 42" Monojunk refridgerator along with a 48" dualfuel oven/range. The fridge has been the the biggest problem of the 2 units, OH! I forgot about the mono junk dishwasher, it left me long ago. My units are 1999models and it does not sound as though they have improved on the design flaw that obviously is common in all of these units. The freezer issue has been there since day 1. It appears that the fan in the freezer can not do away with the condensation in the freezer which ends up freezing between the top panel and the bottom of the mechanical portion of the unit. Tonight is the last straw because the compressor failed. I would shoot it but I dont own a gun. All the problems every one has mentioned here I have had. I feel your pain!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK! How about a class action suite.

If you still want a GE Monogram refrigerator after reading these reviews...I'll sell you mine....You will also need to purchase Scratch-B-Gone for Stainless Steel.....I swear one set of scratches came from the dog's tail....REALLY...stainless steel scared by fur... I wish I still had my 20 year old almond Kenmore....

I also have a GE Monogram refrigerator which came with the house I own. All of my neighbors and I have had numerous issues with this unit, including warming of the freezer to the point of all food being lost. This has happened at least three times. I am now experiencing the same thing, of course my refrigerator is no longer under warranty and basically I am on my own. I am told by GE that the part I need will run me approximately $1000. so that is out of the question. I am so disappointed in this product line that my husband and I agree we will never buy GE again.

I purchased for $5300 a GE MOnogram builit in model 4 1/2 years ago. During that time I have thrown away 3 freezer and fridgefuls of food due to machine failure. The most current situation is still unresolved. It has not worked for over two months. After three different appliance companies (all certificed by GE) and 5 visits to my home, I am beginning to believe it cannot be fixed and my money was completely wasted. The only bright thing in this mess is that this is the only GE appliance I own and will EVER own. I also had three other friends with this freezer/fridge and they have ALL had similar problems. I would not recommed GE products to anyone unless I disliked them. I can't say anything positive about this line since the most important thing about a freezer/fridge is reliability and this is the most unreliable appliance I have ever owned.

We have a GE Monogram built-in side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. The refrigeration unit failed after 4 yrs: cooling unit is fully corroded and ineffective. Refrigerator model: Z1RS6NMCLH. We strongly advise against purchasing these appliances.

I'VE GOT THE HOUSE READY FOR KITCHEN TEAR OUT AND THOUGHT WE KNEW WHERE WE WERE HEADED. BUT NOW WE ARE GOING TO RETHINK THE REMODEL. ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS WE WERE GOING TO GO WITH GE WAS MY BROTHER IN CALIFORNIA HAS ALREADY DONE WHAT WE WERE GOING TO DO. THE REASON HE HASNT HAD PROBLEMS IS PROBABLY BECAUSE HE IS SINGLE AND NEVER COOKS AT HOME!!!HE BOUGHT AND REMODLED THE HOUSE FOR RESALE PURPOSES. I NOW FEEL SORRY FOR THE BUYERS!!!

As a new home owner I purchased the entire suite of GE Monogram appliances as an expensive upgrade to my kitchen. The Gas Range failed and had to be repaired (under warranty).The dishwasher has failed twice, once catching fire! The microwave failed and required a $400 out of warranty repair to replace the timing circuit (a part that should cost $4.00 but costs $250). The water and ice maker are currently not working on the refrigerator. In my entire half century of life I have not spent so much on appliance repair as I have in the last 18 months. That makes four out of four appliances that failed within 18 months! I cannot recommend strongly enough against purchasing these appliances.

I recomend against GE Monogram refridgerators. The 18 month old model we have will not cool below 42 degrees and the service request has been in for days. We have had two Monograms in previous houses with disasterous results. These units are extrememly problematic and service from GE is really bad.

We have a GE Monogram 48" side by side, and a convection oven. I could not be more disappointed with these products. After reading multiple books by Jack Welch, and taking six sigma in my own company, I am completely blown away that this is the same company. Six Sigma is all about having the highest quality to save money for the company and to insure happy repeat customers. I think these units are 0 sigma. As mentioned below, the ice maker has been replaced 3 times, we had the door seal leak problem which lead to the entire refrigerator being replaced (under warranty), and the space usage inside is pathetic. On our 2nd oven as well with 5 service calls that I can remember so far. No wonder GE is trying to sell this division.

If GE Monogram put more effort in designing a quality product than marketing it as a quality product perhaps it would work correctly. I have had my GE Monogram Trivection Oven for 2 months and have used it all of twelve times before it failed completely. I am now on my third service call and the oven still does not work. The repairman cannot even access the service menu. I have also been treated rudely by your customer service agents

Our 2 month old GE Monogram just broke. Came home one night to find items in our refrigerator freezing (the temperature had dropped on its own to 27 degrees F). Called the service company for GE Monogram and was told to reset it by shutting off circuit breaker (that did not work). The following day called the service company (Sunday) and was told that someone would come out on Tuesday. When the serviceman arrived on Tuesday he said the problem was with the computer (which he had to order). He would order it and come back the following Tuesday to install it. The part came the next day and I called to see if anyone could come out sooner to repair the refrigerator and they told me the soonest date they had was Monday. So I spent $5,000 on a refrigerator and have not been able to use it for over a week.......thankfully the milk, juices, etc...are not freezing but everything else is... Our 1 week old GE Monogram is the worst piece of junk I have ever encountered. Problems: unable to put taller jars or bottles in the front door because the door won't close. The shelves and bins are very space stingy. It is supposedly rated at 26 cubic feet, but seems much smaller than the 25 cf model we replaced (remodeled kitchen). The light seems quite a bit larger than is necessary. For some reason the water filter canister projects into the cavity of the unit further cutting space. It boggles my mind that some brain dead engineer felt the need to have a high humidity drawer (for veggies, I guess) and have it sloped downward in front. Of course you can't store items on this shelf due to the sloping, so a full shelf is wasted. The vaccuum used to hold the door closed requires some muscle to open it. Not much of a problem for me, but could be for someone who cannot pull too hard. I wonder why the ice compartment has to take up so much room, thereby making the effective freezer compar... We have a 42" Monogram refrigerator, and with the problems we've had, I clearly will never buy another Monogram refrigerator, and am thinking about replacing this one (which sucks, since it's brand new, and we got it with the house we bought). The water and ice dispenser is just complete crap. There's really no reason to sugar coat it, it's terrible. Ice gets clogged daily/regularly. The water spout is poorly positioned and simply doesn't seem to work well. We too have had logic board problems - and wound up having the water turn itself on, causing a small flood (luckily we were home and caught it before it got bad). We've had the logic boards replaced, the water hose positioning worked on, and the ice system checked. End result: no more flooding (yet anyway), but the thing is still crap. Space is limited. Door shelves way too deep, have trouble closing door unless you're carefull not to put tall items on door. Shelves way to narrow and then the huge light in the back takes up too much space. Cannot even fit a coke fridge pack without major rearangement of door items. Way too much room devoted to drawers, not enough shelf space. Door locks sometimes after closing(maybe to pressurize or something) and you have to wait a while before you can open it again, very annoying when you're trying to get in and out multiple times. Hate it.

I cannot recommend GE Mongram applicances - we have a refrigerator side by side that had logic problems along with some vents not openning properly that cause our house to get flooded. We have dishwasher for wish we had to change the logic card and now has a problem with a water level control swithch. We have a stove which had screws fall out of the oven door. The only applicance that has worked with no problems is the microwave. These applicance are all less than 5 years old - and most problems occurred why still under warranty. After buying you wonder what happened to the GE quality - or is it just poor engineering?

For a $4k refrigerator, this thing is horrible. The compartments on the refrigerator door are incompatible with the inner shelves. Storing items in the door to the shelves' capacity does not allow the door to close. Additionally, the icemaker is continually freezing up. Although the stainless steel is very nice, I would reccomend not purchasing this GE appliance. We also have the stainless steel GE microwave and it's a piece of junk as well. What microwave do you know today that leaves a bag of popcorn half popped and the other half burned?

Excellent fridge. Features, the seal is amazing very quite. The lighting is incredible. I love my new fridge. I have the stainless model and it looks great. I just clean it with some organic oil every once in a while. The thru the door Infrared ice and water is really cool.
