One of Sean Connery's best! But the periscope thing was incredibly silly.

A good spy-drama in a tradition of Dr. No with excellent cast, though for some it might seem a bit slow. Its quite realistic, but not without fun elements (such as the periscope secretly installed in the Russian Consulate). Bond is a true spy, and beginning with this movie Connery charm is in a full swing. At the same time the story itself holds too much weight: if one watches the movie once it might be enough.

This was an easy movie to watch. Probably the best supporting cast of any Bond movie. This story was interesting and you liked many of the charactors. I actually liked this one better than Goldfinger but I get why Goldfinger got all the critical support. Goldfinger was more of a "Bond" movie while this was more of a classic spy movie.

The best Bond film with great villains and classic scenes that have been ripped off ever since most notably Rose Klebb's shoe knife and the fight on the train. There are no OTT gadgets and no nonsense about supervillains trying to start WW3 etc. Top stuff

One of the two best, the other being the new Casino Royale. Why? A lack of gadgets and silly one liners.

The series finds its legs with this one. While it grew in its scope as the films progressed, the tmplate was set with From Russia With Love.

My personal favorite Bond movie. Although Goldfinger and Thunderball were technically superior, From Russia With Love to me signifies the closest Bond movies have ever got to a spy film. The movie does not drag on very long as some of the later ones in the series do - which is a plus. Also, it is more realistic than most other Bond films without getting boring.

Outstanding. The novel was listed as one of John F. Kennedy's favorite books. The final fight scene with KGB agent Klebb was classic (In the book, Bond nearly dies after their fight).

Very solid, probably the most spy-like of the films. Great gypsy camp sequence, and great train sequence.

From Russia With Love was the second film in the James Bond series (released in 1963), and while the movie is enjoyable and introduces some additional elements that became staples for the franchise, Russia just is not as good as its predecessor Dr. No (1962) or its immediate successor Goldfinger (1964). For starters, the music (ie the theme song) just does not hold up when compared to how the series developed. Call me sexist (of course the series is a bit sexist anyway), but the Bond theme songs work best with a female artist (with the notable exceptions of Thunderball, Live And Let Die, and A View To A Kill). Secondly, the film resurrects the same bad guys (SPECTRE) that was used in Dr. No. While I do not want Bond chasing the Russians (or the bad guys de jour) each time out, chasing SPECTRE agents for two consecutive films does not cut the mustard either. On the plus side, Q makes his first appearance, and Robert Shaw is one of the better talents to play a villain in the entire ... Read more

The 2nd best of the Bond movies. A great script combined with the best international settings of all Bond movies. Venice, Istanbul, and a ride of the Orient Express. A movie I never tire of, to say the least.
