Original 11/12/2009 Yet another Tortured artist who painted through her pain. Some of her better Paintings are a direct result from very unhappy elements in her life; Adultery and miscarriage (The Love Embrace of the Universe and What the Water Gave Me respectively) Though she did have a fair amount of talent, it is unlikely that she would be famous today were it not for her marriage to Diego Rivera. Not only did he bring her fame through association, but many of her paintings were personal and a result of their rocky Marriage. I think the Feminist movement also gave her career a boost as her (bi)sexuality was a big theme through some of her Work. Overall, I find her to be a pretty damn good Addition to the Surrealist movement. Update 7/6/2010 I was reminded that Today would be her Birthday were she still alive. She was a tortured and fragile, yet Strong and beautiful soul. The art world benefited from her presence. Tree of Hope http://titirangistoryteller.files.wordpress.com/2... Read more

Frieda Kahlo is one of my faves. I love her colors and strong depictions. She has a distinct edge leaning toward surrealism.

Kahlo is not easy to look at. Her paintings are not pretty pictures meant to brighten our days. They are reflections of her most intimate and often painful moments - self portraits exploring the dualities of life: joy and pain, hope and fear, life and death. Three stars... Talented yes... but Frida's fame was also a direct result of her marriage to Diego Rivera. Were it not for that, history would be unaware...

Frida Kahlo is my favorite artist of all time. whenever i look at her paintings i see the true suffering that she went through, and for some reason it makes me feel so much better to know that i am not the only one.

Frida Kahlo is, in my opinion, one of the greatest artists this world has ever seen. She shows herself so openly and evokes so much emotion while depicting beauty and tragedy. She was born 1907 but claimed to be born during a war in 1910. Frida was an enigmatic person and she expressed that through her art. She didn't want to call herself a surrealist, but her art was a form of surrealism. She has the most unique paintings I have ever seen. Truly a genius.

Someone who put her entire life on canvas. A woman who showed herself truly. A lady who wasn't afraid to express herself. Someone who was a great artist and unique individual.

Try as you may, You could never find an artist as truly unique, creative, and fascinating as Frida Kahlo. She showed us who she was and never once apologized for it. Her paintings had so much meaning. She revealed her true feelings and all of what she felt. She painted her own reality. In a time of conformity and robot people, She stood out and stayed true to herself. She is a rare gem of an artist and she was definetly an individual!

Frida definetly lived a sad and painful life. It is so sad she never got to be truly appreciated while she still alive.

She was very expressive in her paintings, and not many people show their emotions through their paintings like she did. Unfortunately she was too depressing for my tastes, and the narcissism is a creepy as well.
