We had a dinner reception with just family and friends - maybe 12 of us. They gave us a private room which has an incredible atmosphere. And food was just delicious. Calamari was perfect .. yummm. Fish was soooo fresh. They are not only good at seafood because I remember having a piece of steak melting in my mouth.I recommend to anyone.

I visited fresh last week after reading a lot of reviews that were mostly very good. I wanted to see for myself if it was that good. The meal ended up being better then expected! The service was great, the presentations of the dishes were stunningly beautiful, and not like most restaurant the dishes tasted better then they looked. As a told the very welcoming gentlemen in the suit I will return soon.

Everything at Fresh exceeded our expectations. We stumbled upon this place early on a Friday evening while walking around Tribeca, and were lured in by the beautiful decor which we could see from the sidewalk through the large open windows. We liked the looks of the menu so decided to have an early dinner on the spur of the moment. Every single dish we ordered was absolutely delicious. The flavors were creative but did not overwhelm the taste of the fresh fish. The highlights were the shrimp with avocado terrine (shrimp are flown in alive daily from hawaii), the scallops with foie gras, the sauteed eggplant, and the fresh ice cream cones. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, and the new chef (Mike) even came out twice to greet us and see how we liked our food. We eat out often and are somewhat jaded by upscale restaurants that survive off their reputation rather than their quality and service. We give this restaurant a rare 5-star rating and will be back soon!!

Haven't visited fresh in over a year but I read in the times about a new chef coming aboard so I gave it another shot. Glad I did the menu was so interesting and all the dish we had were super flavorful and presented beautifully. I had the heirloom tomato salad with pickled watermelon and the kona kampachi crudo both were wonderful.

A group of us went and celebrated a friend's birthday at fresh last night. The atmosphere was great, service was very fast, friendly and accommodating. The food, we all agreed, was excellent and indeed fresh. Highly recommended.

After a good run fresh restaurant is not so fresh anymore. Limited menu and limited options made me want to go somewhere else. I expected exotic and received ordinary, The service was awful, the waiter did not know anything about seafood or wine to pair with it. Skip it and try something else. Fresh was fresh, skip it and try something else

The Food: The food was amazing! I am a huge seafood fan and my boyfriend...not so much. However, we both LOVED Fresh. From the appetizers to the dessert the food was creative, yet not complicated or drowned in sauces or heavy seasoning. By the time we had to choose a dessert I said, "pick anything on the menu, even if it doesn't sound too appetizing, I'm sure they do something amazing to it and it will be wonderful. The Service: Professional, friendly, and very polite (even though we walked in one minute before the kitchen closes) We eat out all the time, and have gone to all of the "recommended" NYC restaurants. OFTEN we are very disappointed since many NYC "hot spots" are grossly overrated. Fresh is definitely one of my top 3 restaurants here. P.S. for those of you not too into seafood, even their steak was PERFECT. My only complaint is when I asked the waiter if he recommends us ordering side dishes, he said no because the plates were plentiful. I disagree. We definitely didn't le... Read more

I went here for my birthday with my husband and it was perfect. They had great, honest service and amazing food without crazy prices. Try the lobster bisque and the clam chowder...they are frothed or something like that and it is great!

Everything was as advertised. Food was great, service was great. My 3 course dinner for 2 with a moderate bottle of wine came out to $400. Given that seafood was fresh, appetizers were delicious, service was great I did not mind the price tag. Do make reservations. if you want to eat in peace go as late as possible.

I have been to fresh a few times - live in the neighborhood- and have loved it every time. I decided to have my wife's birthday party there- a group of 8- on a Friday night. Due to the place being packed, the host said that he would like to offer us a round table for the party in the downstairs room. At first we were hesitant- we didn't want to be cut off from all of the goings ons upstairs. However, being seated in the "gallery room", made this one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The room is beautiful, it's not so big that you feel overwhelmed by the space, but it is also intimte enough that it feels cozy. There were two other parties seated, so there was a nice ambience. We were seated at a large round table, which was great- we could all see each other and actually hear each other for once! We were served champagne upon sit-down, and it only got better from there. There were two waiters assigned strictly to the downstairs, it felt like we were in the VIP lounge of ... Read more

A blind date took me to fresh last Friday night- what a great surprise! I had never heard of the restaurant before- but now I am a total fan (I am celebrating a girlfriend's birthday there this coming Saturday). To begin with- the restaurant is lovely- it is very romantic, and has a sea-like feel to it. My date was able to score probably the best seat in the house- a round-shaped banquette for two that is right in the center of the action- score 1 for him. We were seated right away by one of the friendliest hostesses I have ever seen in New York (she came over to our table to check in on us during dinner, too). We started out with their signature cocktails- they are pricey but ridiculously delicious- the waitress said that they don't use any canned juices for them- everything is freshly muddled when the drink is made- that level of freshness set the standard for the evening. Appetizers were great- we shared the delectable crabcakes and oysters (of which I am usually not a fan, but the... Read more

Had reservations for 9:45 on a Saturday night. I made my reservation on opentable the night before and there were plenty of times available. The place was full but there were no people waiting. The waitress gave us our menus and let us review them for about 10 minutes. When we went to order, she proclaimed that they were out of about 50% of the seafood entries -- no lobster roll, no sea bass, no tuna, no scallops, et al. Totally embarrassing. How are you a seafood restaurant and out of seafood at 10 pm on a Saturday. I asked the waitress if this was a regular occurence (being out of food that is) and she said "no, we just had over 40 walk-ins". Why, would she tell me that? How does that make me feel as someone that actually took time to make a reservation? The food we ended up ordering was very good but the lack of selection left a sour taste in our mouth. We will not be going back.

Great food really fresh. Try the Spicy Seafood Stew, just delicious. Service was pleasant and discreate. made arrangements for a cozy table anf flowers and everything was done just perfectly. It's expensive but worth the money. Wine selection is good. Maybe they should try to add a few more dishes at the menu. I will go again.

I went to fresh with a group of friends on a Saturday night AND the next week for lunch. IT WAS AMAZING! I rarely feel moved enough by any dining experience to do a review, but fresh was almost too good to be true. Dinner was divine- great attentive service, complimentary champagne and outrageous food- not to mention beautiful ambience. The seafood stew is a definite winner and the sashimi is very unique (done French style) and delish. The Monday after my reservation, I got a phone call thanking me for coming in! A thank you call from a restaurant? Incredible. I work close by, so tried it for lunch with clients a few days later, and they remembered me from the weekend (the manager actually sat us at the table). The lunch menu was made up of two prix-fixe's and one catch of the day menu. The prix-fixe's actually include a lot of the same items offered at dinner, and though I was tempted to get the seafood stew again, I went for the lobster roll. GREAT call there. It was unbelieveably ... Read more

To say that I didn't like Fresh would be too kind a thing to say. I hated everything about it. First. The service was poor. The pretence was made at high class. Dishes were served from the left and taken away from the right. New piece of bread would come as soon as you ate the other one. Butter was not frozen solid. But things quickly went south. The waiter made a mistake and served from the right. Then, it went any which way, from the right, over the shoulder, across the table. It reminded me of a $4.00 lunch at some Chinatown's takeout joint. He mixed up our dishes and asked, 'Are you getting Bass or the chicken?" and then said, "Oops, my fault." When we paid our bill, the Maitre'D came to our table. He didn't say thank you, come again, have a nice day. He just picked up the bill and began cleaning up. Second. The food was fresh, I will give them that, but it was cooked the same way as it was served. Sloppy. Nothing was salted. They were so afraid to over salt it that they did not... Read more

I took my girlfriend there for her birthday last night and we had a relaxing, really good meal. They treated us well and the food was extremely "fresh" and well-prepared. The menu seemed to have a wide variety of dishes for seafood lovers and interesting ways of preparing them. Also, the hostess called me today to thank us for coming and mentioned how she hoped that my girlfriend enjoyed her birthday - unexpected, but a truly "above and beyond" thing to do...

We ate at FRESH the Saturday of the snowstorm we got to the restaurant an hour early for our reservations and were promptly seated and welcomed. The service was impeccable, the attitudes were very professional, and the waiter was knowledgeable. The Trilogy of Crab and Daurade were impeccable. The atmosphere was quiet early in the evening, but tables quickly filled up. The spacious room absorbed the noise, so it never got overly loud. The owner Eric came over and introduced himself, and upon hearing that I used to cook in New Orleans, introduced me to the Chef as well. I felt welcomed, as if I we had been longtime friends. One week after our wonderful dinner, we received a phone call from the restaurant thanking us for dining with them and expressing their hope that our dining experience was pleasurable. A+ all around! Well be back!

We had reservations at 9pm, but was not seated until 10:15pm. It was rather pathetic that it took them over an hour to seat us. Why make a reservation if you aren't going to keep it? Quite poor service... Our appetizers came pretty quickly, but it was another hour till the entrees showed up. By the time we were done, it was past 1:00am. While we enjoyed the food, we were highly disappointed by the poor service (waiter was not quite competent and SLOW service) and lack of remorse. The only comp we got was some champagne... which wasn't fabulous. Bottom line: B+ for the food, F for the service.

Went for a late weekday lunch. Decor is minimalist and clean - nothing to distract or commend. Service was very friendly. Lunch prix fixe of $25 or $35 allows some mixing and matching (with price supplement), but I was happy to go with the variety on the lower-priced menu. Fluke sashimi drizzled with jalapeno-lime olive oil, the fruit of the oil nicely highlighting the fish's sweetness. A touch more jalapeno heat for contrast and it would have been very good indeed. Barbecued codfish was gorgeously moist - as if poached - yet the fabulous texture was let down by curiously bland seasoning - a spice rub might have overwhelmed, however herb mix or other sauce would have done much to enhance. Overall, the ingredients and technique are there and I am encouraged enough to return at lunch or dinner to see whether the boldness of the flavour palette improves.

Loved the attentive host, the dining room, the general buzz. Our rather odd waiter brought the wrong glass of wine for my wife. When I requested a replacement, he instead presented the bottle from which he poured the wrong wine. Thanks so much! The oysters were outstanding, fresh and accompanied by a lovely mignonette. For $26, my wife's St. Peter's fish was disappointing, while my $29 charred tuna was flavorful, though lukewarm. But onto dessert: we shared the sorbet trio and two were comically bad, one tasted of radishes and the other of broccoli. The third was a puckering lemon flavor, which shone only because the other two were deplorable. The concerned manager treated us to complimentary champagne to atone for wine-gate, which was lovely, but not enough. We loved the ambience, but the service was uninformed and the menu hit-or-miss. For two-thirds the price, I'll patronize Mare every time.

I've been to fresh many times with my husband since we live in TriBeCa and loved chef Angerer's cooking style. We had dinner there last night and everything was different and terrible. Our fish was overcooked and heavily dressed; the service was choppy and awkward and our meals came out at different times. We soon learned that the chef Angerer had left fresh. I would love to know where he went because we are sure to follow, but will certainly not return to fresh unless they clean up their act!

Wow! I was totally blown away! The seafood is unbelievably fresh, and the preparations are delicious--they enhance the fish instead of smothering it. I especially like the halibut. Desserts are also great, especially the carmelized banana cake. Service was excellent--helpful and making suggestions, but not at all pushy. I highly recommend fresh for an all-around great meal.

What a lovely, charming restaurant. Excellent service; welcoming wait staff and the freshest seafood. Highly recommend the Oysters (served with an exceptional shallot vinegar). The Stone Crab and Lobster were superb. Everyone at our table ordered different main courses and everyone was happy. (The only thing to avoid is a strange tasting crab risotto.) We're all going back.

I have to agree with the previous poster. I haven't a clue why it didn't get a higher rating. I was there for dinner last night and it was positively perfect. The raw oysters were so fresh (hence the name) that we ordered another half dozen. The main dishes were fantastic and cooked to perfection. The service there was also impecable. It's a very sleek looking restaurant and at night fall, the lights dim and candlelight pretty much takes over for the lighting. I would recomend this to any seafood lover that likes great gourmet food.

The Scene Awash in tones of blue and beige, with arching walls that mimic rolling waves, this large L-shaped room is anchored by a glassed-in kitchen. In the early evening, a local business crowd holds forth followed by a well-heeled downtown set. Servers seem to employ a zone defense: Every time a diner makes a move, in swoops a different employee. The Food The menu is creative yet avoids the kind of overcomplication that plagues many fish houses. Sauteed grey sole is prepared with a nutty brown meuniere sauce, and a perfectly deep-fried flounder benefits from a gingery soy broth. One of the best main courses is a buttery salmon filet set over sweet baby eggplant and caramelized treviso. The most outlandish sounding dish on the menu turns out to be one of the best: succulent roasted halibut cheeks alongside seared fois gras set over a roasted peach in balsamic vinegar. Disappointments are minor, like the awkwardly thick slab of tuna belly in lemony soy vinaigrette.

I have eaten at this restaurant many times since I am a fan of fresh fish. It is a favorite of mine and my clients. We have never been disappointed by the restaurant and they have even created dishes especially for individual tastes. The chef is very pleasant as well as the service. Why it has a lower rating is beyond me. I eat in "expense account" restaurants at least 2x / week and this one is at the top of my list over many of the more famous spots.

i have been to fresh several times and cannot put into words how wonderful the food is. their concoctions are absolutely unique and delicious and every item is truly fresh as can be. my husband orders the lobster roll to start every time we visit and is never disappointed. neither am i when it comes to their oysters -- absolutley fantastic! the only downfall is the lighting (it's awkwardly a little too bright at times...) and unfortunately, the waitstaff performance is 50/50 -- there are a few that are excellent, but also a few that are horrible and inattentive. definitely go, but cross your fingers when you get seated, otherwise, it could be a bit of a bumpy ride...

I've been to Fresh many times and it's one of my favorite restaurants. The waitstaff has always been friendly and helpful, the bartenders are nice. The food is outstanding! My husband and I often bring friends to dinner there, and everyone has loved it as much as we have. As a vegetarian, I find it hard to find a restaurant that will make an interesting entree for me. At Fresh, I have learned to trust them completely - I have consistently received a magnificantly prepared and presented dish. And it's always been different than the last time - it makes me feel as if they created something for me, instead of giving me the standard "oh-great-we-have-a-vegetarian-give-her-pasta-primavera". Don't miss the Chocolate Variations. I dream about this dessert for days after going to Fresh.

Went there for my 2 year anniversary and had an awesome experience! We had concluded that this was one of, if not, the best (american) seafood restaurant we've been to in NYC so far (does not included sushi restaurants = different category). The Louis Latour Chardonnay went amazingly well with the smoked corn/crab chowder and the scallop/tuna ceviche. We told them we had a show to catch and the timing of the food was like clockwork. Decor is spacious, blue and cool - you feel like you are in the ocean. We had no problems waiting for anything, but we also went on the early side (before a broadway show).

It annoys me that there's always a few people willing to trash a good restaurant on city search. The food here is really good-- end of story. the presentation was creative and everything was prepared right without too many unnecessary frills. the fish was very fresh as the name implies and with good fish little needs to be added. The dessert was great. The ambiance leaves something to be desired and reservations are just suggestions.

My God... 6 months and no sign? I should have kept walking. Inside I discovered a restroom that can only be described as rest stop chic. The staff made a grand show of uselessness right off the bat but they did manage to bring my appetizers one hour after i ordered them. In September I found the food satisfying, if only a bit overpriced. In Jan, the entrees had suffered from the kind of heavy handed "creativity" that puts places out of business. My thirty five dollar tuna was so overcooked that I could not detect if it was "Fresh" or canned. When I complained to management, an angry individual rushed to the table (maybe the owner) and ranted about Nova Scotia. I will not set foot in Fresh again.

We didn't have a very good experience at Fresh. We had to wait 15 minutes after we were seated just to get a menu and some water! Then we got a lecture on why you can't order tuna steak well done (hint hint: the customer is always right!). The food was ok, but the portion size was ridiculously small. We were starving afterwards! But the grand finale was the bill: 1 appetizer, 3 main courses, 1 dessert and 2 diet cokes came to a whopping $130+ without tip! Definitely not going back there again, nor will I recommend it.

On the recommendation of 2 friends, I went with my boyfriend for a "top tier" dining experience. After waiting 1 hr after our reservation time, the food was mediocre at best (8:45 res, sat at 10pm). Its not that we ordered wrong but the descriptions on the menu were overwhelming and made my knowledge of fine cuisine seem elementary. Avoid the Cod and Scallop choice (bland as can be). The tuna was nothing special either although the price made it "seem" special. My boyfriend's snapper tasted like an standard fair at a generic italian restuarant. Although I didn't pay, I feel bad for the dent the meal made in my boyfriend's pocket. When on this echelon, I'd choose Bond Street, Nobu or Blue Hill first, without a doubt.

I love food and I know when it is great. It is here. What is amazing are the desserts! I started off with the ice cream sandwhich with carmelized bananas and my boyfriend ordered the chocolate trio. Even though we were full from our great meal, being dessert fanatics, we had to order one more. And it was worth it. I highly recommend the molasses cake with the poached pear. Oh, and if you have to eat real food, go for the halibut cheek w/ foie gras and the kobe tuna. Outstanding!

We went past sunday to fresh. and we had an amazing experience. Since we eat only fish it was always difficuly to find a "fresh" seafood restaurant for sundays. We were told they have their own boats that bring the fish it is really noticeable. I had an amazing arctic char appetizer. The halibut steak was divine. We will be back.
