Sun Oct 04 2009Having advanced degrees in neither Physics nor Metaphysics, I accept entirely the possibility that all the events transcribed in this satisfying opus could have happened and may well happen in the future. With the exception of the quite prosaic mode of communication between generations, all the action is a matter of everyday occurrences carried out in everyday style. The success of Director and Cast in maintaining that spirit of ordinariness is one of the two chief elements in carrying the day for the film. The second, even more important, is the prayerful wish fulfillment provided by the fundamentally ritualistic character of the film, that death does not sever the connection of generations and that nobody truly dies. Whatever the secular character of our minds there is always lurking at those deepest level of the human psyche the need to believe that neither we nor our loved ones die. It is at that level, through the fine work of the cast and the creators, that people felt much of t... Read more

Sun Aug 23 2009An interesting idea that blends family and crime drama with sci-fi elements to make a highly entertaining movie `Frequency' is one of the most entertaining films of its kind. Quaid and Caviezel hand in very good performances and make the unbelievable, well.... believable. Usually these types of films can be confusing and tedious, but because the center story about a boy losing his firefighter father at an early age is heartfelt, it makes up for any minor plot holes. Look fast for a young Michael Cera as John's son. The DVD has an excellent transfer and there are some interesting extras including commentary, deleted scenes and feature-ettes.

Tue Jun 16 2009When a freak aurora borealis causes interferences in the airwaves, a father and son separated by the father's death are reunited via a shortwave radio. That's a simple summary of what's a very complex and heartrending story. Sully (James Caviezel) is living in present day NYC in the house he grew up in. He comes across an old shortwave and hooks it up and manages to contact his Dad back in the past. He's a burned out cop whose relationship is going awry. Frank (Dennis Quaid) is a loving firefighter Dad who gets an eerie message from his son in the future. "If you'd just gone the other way...instead of following your instincts..." Together, these two guys work to change history.... I first saw "Frequency" in the theatre and had to buy the VHS, then upgrade to the DVD. This is one of my all-time favorite films. I have to watch every couple of years, cry, then put the film aside. This is not just a sci-fi story, but a compelling family story that depicts a love that transc... Read more

Sat May 09 2009The DVD Frequency with Dennis Quaid, includes Time travel, using a ham radio, that links the present with the past through an unusual storm and Northern lights. John Sullivan, played by Jim Caviezel, a cop, links to his father, Frank Sullivan, played by Dennis Quaid, a firefighter, who was lost to him due to a tragedy of a fire. The Scifi is intensive, but very interesting. I recommend this to those who like Scifi and Time Travel. My order was promptly acknowledged and arrived in good time. The cost was within my means and the product is in excellent condition. nanlegf26

Thu May 18 2006Suspend disbelief and just accept the paradoxes and you'll benefit from a fascinating story that's really about the love between a father and a son. The transtime contact theme wasn't quite delivered as well as the Korean movie Ditto, with a similar theme in that Frequency went too far to justify the occurrences with lamoid pseudoscience. It created too many holes that it just couldn't fill up by the end of the film. Ditto was much more of a psychological piece and set up the time theme by demanding that you suspend disbelief initially but kept the continuity intact thereafter partly by exhibitting an ecological view of interference with history that Frequency abandoned with a vengeance. However, the mildly annoying gimmicks were very much overwhelmed by a warm story, some decent character development, and some great performances. Have to add that the last sequence is kind of funny to watch (yeah, I know it's supposed to be suspenseful, but anybody with half a brain knows how it's g... Read more

Sat Apr 29 2006I liked Frequency a lot. My wife called it a "chick flick for guys" because it deals with all sorts of male oriented stuff like baseball, firemen, cops, father - son relationships, and time warp type stuff. The story line is cool - a 36 year old guy talks to his long dead father on a ham radio, days before his father dies in a fire. He's able to warn him enough to save his life, in the process putting into motion a whole parallel history. The son wakes up each day not knowing which are his real memories, and which are the altered memories. He has to check family pictures and scrapbooks to see what version of history is currently "live." The more he talks to his father, the more they change history and have to scramble to make sure the key people in their lives come out OK. The ending was a little corny, but this one is worth renting.

Sat Oct 29 2005Perfection. I lvoe the subtle Scifi's and not the cowboys in space movies. This was great.

Thu May 26 2005While the chances of it happening are probably nill, it's a cool movie. There are lots of twists in the plot and it really makes you think about how one tiny little decision or act in the past could drastically change the future. It's definitely worth seeing.

Mon Dec 06 2004I first watched this movie a few years back because Jim Caviezel was in it. Because I'm an autograph collector, I wrote to him and he sent back a personalized 8x10 not long after. I fell in love with the film because it portrayed the bittersweet relationship between father and son. Jim made a great cop, and Dennis Quaid was a very believable firefighter. This film has an interesting premise and likeable characters.

Thu Mar 11 2004Great movie! If you have the DVD edition it should show how talking through time is theoretical. Its interesting. The movie itself has a great cast and is fun and heartwarming to watch.

Sat May 24 2003I first became interested in watching this movie when I saw the Garth Brooks music video to it, so I finally rented it a few days ago, and WOW, it really lived up to my expectations and then some. The plot itself was creative, even if it was far-fetched, and the acting was good. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire movie, wondering what was going to happen next. A great flick, definately worth renting.

Wed May 09 2001I know it's far-fetched, but I still liked this one. For some reason, I almost always dig those little chase scenes in which someone's running from death. I liked the ideas behind it and thought it was pretty well done.

Tue Mar 20 2001I rented this movie after hearing people say it was good but not great. Well, it's certainly not great, and I'm not sure it's even good. The plot is far-fetched enough that it's tough to suspend your disbelief. They don't even attempt to explain how the father and son can send messages across time to each other, and I had a hard time getting past that. And if you take away the sci-fi/fantasy aspect of it, "Frequency" is really just another run-of-the-mill suspense movie. The acting is OK, the plot moves along at an OK pace, and it's kind of interesting but not really. Wow, I'm getting bored just writing this.

Fri Jan 12 2001Silly. Funny and silly. The movie was a let down because I got the impression that it was going to be scary, however the movie was good. I soon began to laugh my "bottom" off.

Wed Jan 10 2001This is a perfect rent a movie. I had seen the previews and thought it was an interesting premises but not interested enough to go to the movies, so I saw this recently on video and it was just what I expected. It was a perfectly entertaining movie. It is about a man who talks to his deceased dad through radio waves (and through time). It is an interesting thought that the past and present are existing at the same time but that is besides the point. The father and son talk through the radio and through their talks change the present because they change the past. It definitely turned more into a drama than I expected. It had suspense and action throughout the whole movie. Rent it, it is worth it.

Wed Jan 10 2001It's been awile since I've seen this. When I saw the preview I knew I would like it. Sure enough, I loved it! It's a very clever movie handling past and present times. Isn't it amazing if you could change your future?

Wed Jan 10 2001The movie could have been better planned out, the plot and everything. It was only about a son talking to his father through a radio and when he realized he can save his father's life by telling him what happened will change the rest of their future. I thought the ending was nice but overall I didn't think too highly of it.

Wed Jan 10 2001This was a fantastic movie. Even though the first 30 minutes were boring, the movie picked up very well at the end.

Wed Aug 09 2000A good story. A good combination of science fiction and drama. The characters were strong and the shifts in time between present and past were seamless. We need more good sci-fi movies that blends good stories and good character development like Frequency.

Mon Jul 31 2000This is an excellent movie. The special effects are great and the story, though not plausible, is intriguing and very suspenseful.

Mon Jul 24 2000The plot developed quite slowly. The actors were great. The storyline was not surprising and the ending was cliche.

Fri Jul 21 2000This movie had a catchy plot, a subject played by recent movies. The film was dramatic, and, scarcely lost luster. I would recommend the film to families highly.
