Wed Aug 11 2010I, too, was not sure that I would like this series, but was hooked shortly into the first episode. I think some people tend to transfer current american criminal law to WWII Britain -- the miranda act wasn't even thought of here, yet, so why would it be in England? I love the characters, the interplay between characters and the acting and writing. Looking forward to possibly more episodes set here in the US -- following up on the American murderer who got away -- temporarily.

Tue Apr 06 2010I agree with most of what has been written in the other reviews. The casting, acting, period ambience, etc. are all excellent. However, as a criminal defense attorney practicing law in the United States, I have to say that in the first four episodes that I viewed, the culprits confess in every case and far too readily. For example, although Dectective Chief Inspector Doyle deduces the identity of the murderer in the episode, "The German Woman", and confronts this criminal with his deductions, I have to ask myself the question, "So What?" There were too many suspects in this case with believable motives to kill the German woman. The accused could just as easilty said, "Very clever, Mr. Doyle - but wrong. Try proving this in court. You can't. Oh, and incidently, I would like to exercise my right to remain silent now." The Crown would have had an impossible time proving its case before a jury. In fact, all of the murderers in the first four episodes that I viewed fall d... Read more

Mon Mar 09 2009Wonderfully atmospheric relating to WWII. Seems realstic (though I am too young to know from personal experience) Great acting and writing. Michael Kitchen was wonderful.

Mon Sep 03 2007At first, I wasn't certain I would like Foyle's War, but after I watched the first episode I was hooked. The plot twists make the show different from most murder mysteries. The cast is excellent. Michael Kitchen is a sensitive, yet intense Inspector Foyle. I am looking forward to more.

Mon Aug 27 2007This acclaimed British television series blends historical drama with thrilling detective potboilers -- all set on the southern coast of England during World War II. Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen) is an English police inspector who sleuths local crimes in an atmosphere riddled with the propaganda and social upheaval that came part and parcel with World War II. Well acted, painstakingly realistic... I enjoyed every episode so far... and best of all, it's still filming so there will be more episodes coming to DVD!

Sat Apr 02 2005Enjoyed this series a lot. Unfortunately, it didn't have an awful lot of episodes - it seemed to be over before it really hit its stride. Another believable cop. Good period uniforms, vehicles, aircraft, and props.
