Football (Australian Rules)

I watched Australian football recently for a good while just to get the gist of it because I've had debates about it with friends. Okay yes - they're tough lads but not really. An occasional dogpile does not get me that energized. There might be some kind of organization or plays or strategy but if there is I cannot tell, and I am not just trying to be negative, I was honestly hoping to be impressed. It reminded me of youth soccer where 75% of the people are always in a circle hounding for the ball moving around the field. Total snore, maybe it's fun to play but pretty inane if you ask me.

I think it has a lot to do with what sport you have been brought up with. Being an Aussie, my favourite code is AFL (Aussie Rules), but I also enjoy NFL - been a Dallas Cowboys fan for a while now.

I've never played it myself but they've shown games on Channel 4 in the UK and all the games I've seen have been very entertaining. I can see why it's the most popular game in Oz.

Hahaha, why is there a Taco Bell picture in the rating description? This sport isn't hardcore, it's just dumb. Would you be a police officer and not wear a bulletproof vest, I wouldn't. Get some shoulder pads and helmuts mate!

afl is the most exciting sport and tough our players are in top physical condition and they hit each other hard(full contact) unlike american football(no contact) you cant hit someone with a pad in the way, nearly all other football codes either dont kick the ball a lot or its non contact or they are covered in protective pads(pls mister dont hurt me) rugby in my opinion is lame mainly due to the fact they go backwards and they throw the ball A LOT same with american footy for such a dominant country they really show how soft they are afl players who are very very fit individuals can run upto at least 2 hundred meters full sprint and if the ball is close you can with all your body hit them legally and we expect to be hit when we are near the ball its not a 5 meter sprint for a cuddle with your mates while you fondle each other to the ground.

It doesn't take much understanding of the game to enjoy Australian Rules football. It is high flying and hard hitting. Imagine several NBA players going up for a rebound, but legally trying to knock them out in the process, and that would be Australian Rules football. And unlike American football, there is a lot more kicking involved in this game.

My dog, Fido, and I were watching a match one day. Some kind of an altercation broke out, and Fido became so excited, I had to take him to the vet.

Go Essendon! I've been a footy fanatic since I was 5 - and I'm a girl! You have to love Aussie Rules or Rugby if you're an Aussie. Neither codes wear any padding, and they're full of passionate tradition. Unless you're a rare Australian species: the soccer fan!

crazy game with kind of anything goes rules but exciting to watch....

Definitely not as interesting and rough as American football! Having visited Australia and watched some games on TV, I was a little lost. However, I think I'll take the NFL over Aussie Rules any day.

Now this is much better than American-rules football. Very fast-paced and an interesting twist on the field goal. I like this sport, and would like to see it in the Summer Olympics some day!

I don't know anything about this game but I watched one match on TV while I was travelling. I was fascinated by several things BUT- Aussie Football refs are the best dressed officials in the world. Huge points for a sport that has their refs dressed this well. And those players are real tough.

Anyone who has watched Gary Ablett play (live) in the 1989 final series knows that there is no greater game on earth.

I actually watched a real life Aussie game when I did a port visit to Perth. The fans really get into the game and the players play with heart but it just seemed to frantic for me. I'm used to the organized and civilized world of the great NFL.

It's funny that the word "rules" is used in this category, because from what I've seen, there don't appear to be any. Give me american football any day.

It's easily the most dominating sport in Australia and always will be. I love it. It beats the ever-so dull rugby, which i call thugby. It's basically the team that gets the highest score wins. Anyone who hates it is jealous because it's the best sport ever.

I'm a Canadian and I've never watched aussie rules football, but it sounds tough and jovin. I'll give it a great rating just to keep baseball and basketball down.
