Flintstones

I used to watch these cartoon reruns back in the eighties. Back in 1978 I bought an Incredible Hulk record and the people who made the record accidentally put a Flintstone Record in the record jacket instead of the Hulk record. I could've returned the record but I decided to keep it and I'm glad that I did. I enjoyed it. Flintstones wasn't only a TV show. Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble have been in many cereal commercials. Fred Flintstone also appears on the box and label of a brand of vitamins. When the 1994 Flintstones movie was made, I knew that they'd put John Goodman's picture on the vitamin boxes and labels and I was right. Flintstones fans should give thanks to the Honeymooners. The Honeymooners inspired the Flinstones. If there had been no Honeymooners, there would be no Flintstones either. I give the Flintstones a 4 star rating.

All-time classic, ahead of its time, longest-running animated series before The Simpsons, and damn funny at times. Wrongfully maligned for being just a cartoon knock-off of The Honeymooner...it was a lot more than that.

Everyday after school - I was feeding my Flintstones cravings (the cartoon, not the vitamins). Great show and wholesome entertainment for children.

Prime-time cartoon show emulating "The Honeymooners" tv show. Was a huge hit when first shown. Also considering the fact that it was only on once a week it was a real treat to see what would happen next. Most likely couldn't watch it nowadays.

This has a higer rating than The Simpsons? Wow, pathetic.Not that the show itself is pathetic. In fact, it's a great show, and I love it. I'm just surprised its rated higher than The Simpsons. o_O

Best cartoon ever.

I concur with VirileVagabond on this one. I remember enjoying it as a kid, but there was very little in the way of cartoons that I didn't enjoy as a kid. My childhood love of cartoons hasn't carried over into my adulthood, but every once in awhile I'll get a yen to watch some old favorites like "Popeye", "Gigantor", "The 8th Man", etc. Even with those, it can be a trial to sit through them. What was enthralling as a kid is dull and silly as an adult. As for "The Flintstones", I have no desire to re-visit that child-hood experience. Had absolutely no desire either to watch the movie they made from it, but it does illustrate the complete creative bankruptcy of Hollywood. Now they're cannibalizing old 2nd rate cartoons for movie ideas (they made a movie out of "Scooby-Doo" for God's sake!). Sad, sad, sad...

Though the lingering popularity of "The Flintstones" must be respected, this animated series doesn't really do it for me. I did like the show as a child, as almost all animation attracted my attention during those years, but as an adult the humor isn't mature enough for me now (even though the show was developed for adults). The writing was okay, but wasn't all that original given that the series was inspired by "The Honeymooners" and many of the non-recurring characters were simply stone age versions of then contemporary stars and personalities. Looking back the only true imagination was getting animals to serve as now modern appliances (as several prior reviews have noted). In comparison, "The Simpons" is much edgier and more relevant to the human condition, even after making allowances for the changed norms. In the end, I won't say that "The Flintstones" was a bad animated show, but I can't go higher than a subjective three stars.

This show had originally been geared for adults but kids of all ages enjoyed the show then and still do today.

This wasn't bad, but wasn't nearly as good as other shows at the time. It took itself way to serious on occasion.

Always tried to relate what they use in the Flintstones with items in my life as a kid. Helps imagination. Characters Gr8! Much better than the Jetsons in everyday situations.

The true test of a good cartoon is that the laughs transcend across generations. The Three Stooges can do that. And based on my kids laughing while watching the Flinstones (and this was one of those lame Pebbles and BamBam all growed up version), the Flintstones pass this test. I won't say that the Flintstones were funnier than The Simpsons, but you can't go wrong with animated dinosaurs qvetching in yiddish and Honeymooneresque scenarios. My favorite was the episode where it was revealed Fred was a compulsive gambler. To this day, when I go into a casino to play Texas Hold'em, I immediately recall the vision of Fred uncontrollably screaming "Bet..Bet..Bet..Bet..Bet..Bet..Bet..Bet..Bet..Bet" and it always gets me laughing.

This, like all Hanna Barbera cartoons, was terrible. That whole franchise was known for poor quality "assembly line" animation and horrendous writing. It could barely be called writing as all of the characters and stories were carbon copies of exisiting TV characters and shows (Flinstones - Honeymooners) with a bunch of lame jokes and sight gags added. Interestingly, in Canada we loved all the American cartoons (Bugs Bunny, Rocky & Bullwinkle etc.) but couldn't stand the HB cartoons, The Flintsones is the only one that played with any regularity and it was the kids who took the short bus to school who watched that.

Good cartoon taken from the Honeymooners. Flintstones was an inventinve cartoon that took place in the stone age. I thought this was one of the better classic cartoons. Fred and his wife Wilma daughter Pebbles. their best friends the Rubbles Barney and Betty and son BammBamm,the strongest baby on earth. This was a situation comedy cartoon form really the first of It's kind. I liked the household appiances these used to come up with like a tiny elephant that served as a vaccuum cleaner, a small animal that served as a garbage disposal. and the family car powered by freds two feetAnd not to forget Dino the devoted dog.I bet most people can sing the Flintstones theme.

In it's day it was one to watch.

The best cartoon ever. I think I've seen every episode at least 3,4 times.

I can't remember what night of the week it showed, but I watched it every week. It was great TV and one of my favorite cartoons. Yaba Daba Doo!

It's a real treat to watch funny Fred and the whole modern stone-age gang. Unfortunately, I don't see it much these days.

I wasn't in love with this show, it kind of pissed me off. But I guess it's alright.

The Flintstones is my all time favorite. I have seasons one, two and three on DVD. I hope four, five and six come out soon. The Flintstones rule.

This is a great show simply because I never tire of it. I have watched it since I was about 8 (1993) when cartoon network started showing it here in the UK and it still makes me laugh as much as I did then. The writing is consistently clever through the series although it becomes obviously sillier with The Great Gazoo. My favourite episodes used to be with the babies in when I was younger but now I prefer the earlier ones when it was just Fred, Wilma barney and Betty. It was a shame the same people did the Jetsons- that sucked!

How could anyone not like the Flintstones? Greatest cartoon and TV show of all-time.

One the most creative cartoons in history. A treasure by any standards. One of the best cartoons ever made. The Simpsons is the only one that can compare.

This was the first "adult cartoon" (it originally aired--and was quite successful--in prime time) and it will always be my favorite cartoon. Even today, at age 38, I enjoy real belly laughs from Flintstones reruns...

The first cartoon family. Who hasn't seen at least one of these classic cartoons. I watched them, my children watched them, and hopefully my grandchildren will watch them. A funny cartoon, that has never gone out of style.

The Flintstones was one of the best cartoons ever. I loved it when I was growing up, but now I can see that it really was geared towards adults. After seeing the shows so many times, I can practically recite the dialog. I felt sad when the unique Mel Blanc passed on, just as I did Jean Vanderpyl. She was the last of the 4 original Flintstones. The cartoons that they have out today (Rugrats, Powerpuff Girls, Spongebob) make me want to cry. What happened to the humor? It's not even funny, and the faces aren't even cute! Long live the Flintstones; they will because they're quality material.

A great cartoon satire of the Honeymooners.

I love the Flintsontes, the old ones (before Barnie got a different voice). There's always some misunderstanding, or Fred is getting in trouble. I love when the characters run, the same scene flies by every few seconds...or when Fred's running from the kitchen to the front door, it seems his house is 1000 feet long. Really, this is a true classic, & will be watched by generations to come.

A classic, pure and simple

Almost the cartoon I hate the most. The Jetsons falls below it.

Love this show...a cartoon classic at its best...The Flinstones and the Rubbles...like the Kramdens and the Nortons...I still get a kick watching this show after all these years! Yabba Dabba Doo!

The best cartoons are the classics; Flinstones, Jetsons, and most all of the old Warner Brothers cartoons.
