Ferrets

IF YOUR THINKING OF PURCHASING A FERRET PLEASE TAKE THE TIME READ THIS!!!!!! Ferrets are great pets, they have a ton of personality. Currently I have three, and they're personalities are as individual as yours and mine. Lucy, short for Lucifer, is the most hyper ferret I've ever seen. Luckily Lucy is great with the litter, she makes mistakes but she's usually on target. She's constantly running, and she's really big on hoarding. She hides everything she can carry and fit under the couch. She also believes everything is hers. If you pick out a ferret like her, keep your valuables up high. Her and her sister Harley love to play fight. Harley is a sweetheart, definitely more relaxed than Lucy. Unfortunately Harley refuses to use the litter box, so when shes out of her cage we put newspaper in her favorite corners. Then theres Rufus, He is the sweetest most relaxed ferret in the world. i ABSOLUTLY LOVE FERRETS and since it was my birthday yesterday my dad is taking me to get ANOTHER ferret i already have 2. anyway i think everyone should have a ferret because they almost never bite and when they do its just a nibble... and they can almost do anything without getting hurt. theyre really cute almoat erisistable and they love playing with other pets. usually other pets get along with ferrets because i also have a dog,2 hampsters,1 gecko,3 turtlles, and 4 cats... so as you can see ferrets get along with anything anyone and love you as long as you love them.

Agree that are great pets if you are informed and willing to care for properly - only want to add warning NOT to purchase a Marshall pet farmed ferret (most pet store chains carry) as they are prone to debilitating long term illnesses (various cancers).

Word has it that "farrets" stink even worse than the better known "ferrets."

Ferrets get a bad reputation. They are actually great pets because they are so playful and funny to watch. They can be trained just like a dog or cat to do many things (including litter training, which is actually pretty easy to do). They don't have a strong smell if you buy one that has been spayed or neutered and decented (which most have been already). It is almost unoticable if you keep there cage/sleeping quarters clean. And many people find the smell to be a nice smell. Mine has a sweet musky smell that I like a lot. They are great pets, just a little miss understood by those that don't take the time to learn about them. If you raise a ferret with love and care, they will be a bundle of joy. Just be sure to care for it the right way, like any animal, if your raise it in a bad way, they will turn out to be a bad pet.

My brother had one when I was about 19, he was 17...great if you want sh*t all over the house, I'm telling you the thing could eat one tiny meal the size of a grape and in five minutes time, it would outsh*t an army of Wookies. Plus, they have a creepy and disturbing habit of brushing up against your legs from underneath the couch while you're reading when it's dead quiet and you least expect it. I don't recommend them at all.

The poor misunderstood ferret. The ferret is a domestic animal, it does not exist in the wild. It is legal in every state except California and Hawaii and several specific cities around the country. I have six ferrets myself, along with a dog and a cat. the ferret kind of falls between the two of them. It's needs are greater than those of the cat, but can be caged during unsupervised times. The biggest mistake people make is treating them like other small caged animals. These are very intelligent animals and need to be trained just like a dog does from a young age what is appropriate behavior. Their potential for nipping and digging and such is actually lower than that of a dog. As far as the smell, well that is in the nose of the beholder. Certainly proper diet, having the animal fixed and general cleanliness will lessen the smell. Is this the best animal for everyone.. no but neither is a cat or a dog. I knew one guy who had an awesome ferret-but my girlfriends daughter had 3 or 4 that were just awful.They stink and they can be very destructive.
