My favorite comic strip of all time! 'Nuff said!

It was a great flight of imagination every day. As a single frame comic that was not limited to recurring characters, anything was fair game. I give Gary Larson a massive amount of credit for calling it a day when the comic quit being based on inspiration and started to become a chore to produce. Not many have the strength of character to walk away from a cash cow.

Read the reviews, nearly every one that didn't give the Far Side five stars has a problem with Calvin and Hobbes being #2, or they just aren't very good at reading the comics page.

We enjoyed the comic strip for years and even collect some of the books of the compiled strips. Some are real funny. A couple i have to look at for a few seconds before I get It good strip though.Fun for the adults to enjoy.GAry Larsons humor can be a bit weird, but I cannot help but laugh out loud at some of it.We like to get the 365 day calendar to read one every day. Too bad he does not want to do the strip anymore. I still have a few favorites of this strip. wish he would come back for awhile and give us some more of his wit.

Still one of the best comics ever written.

Possibly the best single pane comic ever written. Every Far Side comic that Gary Larson ever wrote was hilarious.

There are some bad imitations out there. This is by far one of the most imaginative strips ever created. The dry sense of humor was so original and Larson is a classic. too bad he retired!

Larson is an artist of the imagination, and the comic strip world has seen far too few of those lately. Along with Calvin and Hobbes, his may be the one of the only comics people will still look at 50 years hence.

What an imagination! Larson is someone who always thinks outside the box.

Father Shark says to Son shark sitting around the dining table, "Son, you don't need 10 thousand pounds per square inch to eat a tuna salad sandwich." Brilliant stuff!

Uh, yeah, ok, but didn't Larsen all ready dredge this pond? Yeah, I know, Gary doesn't have a monopoly on this style of humor but, Jeez, give me something new. Characters look the same, ducks and cows with squinty eyes, bespeckled hapless people, scientists with childish tendencies...yeah, it's funny, but I've seen it before

An excellent comic strip by any means. I love how all the animals are drawn with small eyes and minimal capacity for facial expressions, making them look far more apathetic and logical than their human counterparts. The very sight of a cynical cow is hilarious! However, my favorite strip would have to be the one where a worried looking man is sitting at his desk, with a malicious looking mallard staring at him from a far-off building. The caption reads Antidaephobia: The fear that somewhere, somehow, a duck is watching you.

Gut-wrenching funny much of the time. And he stays out of politics, thank goodness! His work is just plain fun to read. He isn't quite as funny as the incomparable Don Martin, but he comes close. (if I remember right, Gary Larson claimed to be a great admirer of Don Martin) I love seeing animals on their hind legs, imitating some of the weird things humans do. My favorite: the one where cattle are standing along a fence visiting. One spots a car, and signals to the other cows. They all get down on all fours until the car passes, then they're back on their hind legs chatting again.

While very twisted, this was one of the most witty and fun comics strips of all time.I would go as far as saying this is the best comic strip ever created.

Gary Larson gave us a totally unique perspective and made us laugh at ourself and the world we live in.Total Genius!!!

Have never seen the actual guy who writes this but I can imagine this old farmer guy sitting around thinking this stuff up as he looks at his livestock.Very funny.

Probably my favorite comic strip of all time, absolutely twisted and brilliant. I have no idea how he came up with his ideas--what a nut.

For the uninitiated, the Far Side was a single cell (with a few rare exceptions) comic strip that provided a twisted observation on daily life and the human experience, yet by and large stayed away from political issues. It was a particular favorite among college students. My personal favorite was the huge eye reflected in the passenger side mirror with the well known warning that objects are closer than they appear.

A fine lunacy. I particularly like the cows.

i could read them for hours

Like the worms that come to prance upon the spotted cows at midnight, the cheese left in Billy's right pocket seemed to spell the words excellent comic strip when held over a green-tinted light table. ~Erg!

Too many Far Side clones these days, but it's still the benchmark against which the sad losers trying to stack this poll will be judged.

When you come across the right ones, Far Side cartoons can be the most hilarious things you see for weeks at a time. Gary Larson is a genius.

Gary Larson is the best cartoonist in the history of existence. I think it would be cool if they built a statue somewhere in his honor.

I appreciate the offbeat humor of Gary Larsen. The comic's not for everyone, but I find that most people like his work. Like all comics, some fall short, then others are great, and for me, he's had way more hits than misses. A lot of his humor is based on science, specifically biology. If you get "The PreHistory of The Far Side: A 10th Anniversary Exhibit" (1989), he explains a few of the misconceptions of his comics (like the one labeled "When car chasers dream" (p. 162), with the dog on the car--no, he's not mating with the car, but it sure looks like it . . . . he says it was definately not his intention).

I miss this strip, especially now that the page-a-day calendar is no more.

Have always loved this comic. All time favorite.

Full of strangeness, full of funny, full of cows. I love it. It gets 4 stars because I like Calvin and Hobbes just a bit more.
