The F-15 is the cadilac of fighters. As in "I hit the lottery so now I'm gonna get me a car with all the bells and whistles money can buy." Screw BMW I'm gettin me a cadilac with the 'big engine' the 'bigger gas tank' 'gps nav, satelite radio, onstar and two built in phones.' I also want 'heated leather seats, dvd player and a playstation III built into the dash.' I also demand that it have a 'sunroof and power everything (including driver adjustable air ride shocks and driver adjustabe tire pressure.)' That in a nutshell was the F-15 design philiosophy. The result: a plane that when brand new everyone wanted to fly. Why? because it had everything, in the late 70's it would have been like having 'Q' toss you the keys to 007's latest ride. Not only that, but it came with a crap load of the maintainers (air force enlisted types) who would spend all night fixing it for the pilot when they broke it. So naturally its the maintainers who complain the most about all of the features t... Read more

The F-15 Eagle was (still is?) the "Class" Air Superiority fighter of its time! The F-22 Raptor now makes its move to claim the crown. Both will be in our arsenal for a long time i beleive.

Its unsurpassed kill ratio, an enviable service record with years left before retirement, and its myriad of technological breakthroughs argue well that when all is said and done, the F-15 will probably be regarded as the best manned fighter in aviation history.

for it's time it was probably the greatest jet fighter. The only jet fighter to see combat and never be shot out of the sky. The only plane that surpasses it is the F22, and maybe the F18

In terms of comparisons a fighter is only as good as its pilot and it's their opinions that matter most. The majority of the pilots I have spoken to about this craft claim it's the best. This includes pilots who regularly fly 'other' fighter craft, a rarity among pilots who usually believe that whatever plane they are flying is the best. The F-15's impressive record speaks for itself. Although age is catching up with it, there has yet to be any plane developed with improvements drastic enough to make the F-15 retire.

For all I know, this airplane is a legend and is probably the most feared aircraft amongst ennemy pilots troughout the world right now. It has beaten everything that has ever come up against it during air conflicts. For me the only question that will remain after this aircraft will be retired is what would have happened if it would have face a Russian Su-35 or Su-37... Nevertheless, with an impressive record of domination in every of its battle appearances, this is a great aircraft.

It's old, but under-rated. It hasn't met a fighter it couldn't shoot down and fly home. In Israel a Mig 23 and an F-15 out of ammo collided head on. The Mig exploded, the F-15 flew home and landed missing much of one wing and one section of its tail fin. The pilot flew home using differential thrust to flight straight. It was repaired to fly again. We DO need a replacement. The last American soldier to die in battle from an enemy aircraft was in the Korean War when a Mig 15 crashed into one after being shot down. See my comments under F-16 and F-14.
