Fri Jul 01 2011May 5, 2011 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sends another Warning Letter to Evanger's, claiming that samples of two of their dog food products had been analyzed and found to be 'adulterated' and 'misbranded'. “From December 2, 2010 through February 10, 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted an inspection of your low-acid canned food manufacturing facility located at 221 Wheeling Road, Wheeling, Illinois. In addition, on August 19, 2010, FDA received samples of (b)(4) Lamb and Rice Dog Food from the distributor, (b)(4). This letter notifies you of the violations of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the FD&C Act) that we found during our inspection and from the samples we received from the distributor. You can find the FD&C Act and its associated regulations on the Internet through links on FDA’s web page at www.fda.gov. We found that you offered for sale (b)(4) Lamb and Rice Dog Food which was adulterated. Under Section 402(b)(2) of the FD&C Act, 2... Read more

Sat Jun 25 2011CAUTION !! This stuff is garbage !! I started feeding this stuff to my four dogs and within two days they were all extremely ill !!! I have had dogs for most of my life and I know you should change their food every six months or so. And yes, I know how to do it slowly over time and mixed with their old food. This stuff looks nasty and smells nasty and the cans they use are thin and weak. If you look around on-line you will find that they have been in trouble before. It got to the point that they wouldn't even come into the room when I went to prepare their food....they would not eat it at all !! I stopped feeding this crap and within two days they were improving. It took a week before they were back to normal. Please do not feed this stuff to your pets !! And if you feel you must...proceed with extreme caution !! I can only hope that soon they will be put out of business.

Sun Jun 12 2011This company has a long history of unethical and fraudulent behavior. Don't risk your pet's health by feeding whatever garbage they are selling as dog food. Read the most recent FDA warning letter for yourself: http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/EnforcementActions/Warning Letters/ucm255000.htm

Tue Dec 22 2009I like their canned the best. Kibble is a little grain heavy for my liking but not terrible.

Tue Dec 15 2009Best deal out there! I rotate between the Braised Beef and Roasted Chicken Drummette dinners. I was SHOCKED the first time I opened up a can and the dinner looked like what I cook for myself! I love that I don't have to mix it with anything because it's a complete meal, and I think canned is more healthy anyways. I also love that the food is Made in the USA!!!! Very important to me.

Thu Sep 10 2009Just purchased a can of Evanger's 100% Beef Super Premium canned dog food. I also purchased Mulligan Stew in Chicken Recipe and Salmon as well as a can of Ziwi Peak Daily-Dog cuisine Tripe: Lamb/Venison Recipe as I was told this was good for dogs. I have never tried this dog food before, but I shall see how it goes.. Just looking at the ingredients list for Evangers: Beef, water sufficient for processing. That it's. 2 ingredients??!! It's crazy, usually with canned food there is a chockfull of crap mixed in there, leading me to believe this is a good product. I plan to try this canned food mixed in with Innova Evo's Red Meat Small Bites with my Basset Hound, I am sure he will LOVE it!

Wed Jul 15 2009I purchased this food for the first time yesterday to give to my 8lb toy poodle. After giving her her first serving of the canned food (Braised Beef Chunk with Gravy), I saw on the web that in June '09, Evanger's had their license pulled by the FDA, which stated that their underprocessing could result in foods containing bacteria, e.g. the bacterium that causes botulism. I of course gave her no more of the food, but she woke up this morning with severe diarrhea and vomiting. She has had these symptoms all day and if she doesn't get better in the next few hours, we are going to the vet. Although she has a sensitive tummy, my baby has NEVER been this sick before, and she's a young, healthy dog (20 months old). It's really a shame because she actually loved the food, and she's a picky eater. AVOID THIS FOOD.

Mon Mar 16 2009Bought a can of Roasted Chicken Drummette Dinner when a friend with a small dog recommended the line. The bones in this meal are truly soft enough for my Yorkie to break on his own (but, I break it up a bit before setting the bowl down). My dog loves their Hand Packed line, esp. Hunk of Beef and the Drummette Dinner. I just mix it in with Dr. Harvey's Veg-to-Bowl and/or his kibble. He's loved it for the past 3 yrs now! What's best is that he's 8 years old now: has stayed active and healthy, eats his whole dinner in one sitting and isn't overweight! Thanks, Evanger's!!!

Wed Dec 31 2008My 10-lb dogs shared a can of braised beef chunks and were rushed to the animal clinic 15 minutes later, poisoning, paralysis setting in and already going blind. This was right before Thanksgiving. My little girl is home and well; her brother has had seizures and is on a variety of medications to fight all that has ravaged his body since eating this food. It took 4 emails before I ever got any response from the company, and, no surprise here, nothing after those two emails. I have contacted the FDA, the Illinois consumer affairs as well as the local attorney general. No one can ever understand the nightmare this has been and we still dont know if the little man is going to make it..We've spent over $5K thus far.

Sun Dec 28 2008Evanger's Hunk O' Beef is the only canned food that my dog will eat! She simply hates canned food! It's weird, I know! But, she freaks out over Hunk O'Beef! It does give her terrible gas, though :(My dog didn't like Evanger's Pheasant and Brown Rice kibble, though. Had to give it away to a more appreciative dog!

Sat Dec 13 2008My 2 year old lab's favorite..... Evanger's Hunk of Beef. He goes nuts when I add it to his dry food. Wow, it smells like mom's homemade pot roast!. I love it because it is a real piece of beef...not loaf, not ground up.

Wed Dec 10 2008My doggie, Rufus, was not eating ANYTHING until I gave him Evanger's! I tried every single food out there. I started with the Science Diet dry food because my vet recommended it to me, but when Rufus went on a hunger strike and didn't eat for days, I thought something was wrong with his stomach. So I took him to the veterinarian and after hundreds of dollars, I had no answer. A friend recommended Evanger's and I thought why not, I had tried everything else. And it was like a miracle! After being on a hunger strike, Rufus licked his bowl clean!!!! Evanger's has all my praises. Thank you!!!!!

Tue Sep 16 2008When I first bought it I was surprised it had bones in it. I add this to my dogs raw food diet for more variety. This look just like a wonderful piece of beef roast that your Mother would make. My dog absolutely loves this product.

Wed Aug 27 2008The dry food has Menadione, which is not a good thing. It is a synthetic version of Vitamin K. Would be better if the left out the Vitamin K all together.

Wed Mar 19 2008I have been giving my dog Evangers for about 6 months now since we first got her. We started her with Beneful and she became extremely allergic to it with rashes and scratching. My vet introduced us to Evangers and since she's been on it, all of her allergies went away. This food is exactly like people food! It smells really good too! She loves the hunk of beef. I also mix it with the dry food, pheasant and brown rice. They also have chicken and brown rice for the dry food too. There are so many different flavors for them in the canned food. I highly recommend this food for dogs with food allergies and non food allergies. It is complete with vitamins and minerals, gives the dog great energy, and makes their coat shiny and soft!!! THANK GOD FOR EVANGERS!

Thu Mar 13 2008Update 3/13-Although I can longer feed my dog the dry formula because of the grain, I still think there canned food is amazing. I use the 100% Game Meats as a topper on his food and he just loves it. They are a very good company and there food has quality ingredients!I feed my 9 year old English Springer Spaniel the Pheasant and Brown Rice Dry Formula mixed in with the 100% Pheasant or Duck canned food and he loves it!! It's great for dogs who have allergies to more common meats. My dog has allergies along with IBS and this food is easy on his digestive system and he's not allergic to it. Great job, Evanger's!!

Thu Nov 08 2007I have been feeding my dog Evanger's for quite some time now and the result has surpassed my every expatation. Evangers has no by-products, salt, preservitive, any artificial flavoring and they use fresh USA human grade meat. I can tell that my dogs overall health health is better. Eveerything from his energy level to his coat. I'm telling give Evangers a try and you won't regret it.

Thu Oct 25 2007I'm updating my review since discovering both my guys cannot tolerate the canned chicken thighs. I called Evanger and they agreed to send me the balance of the case (9 cans) in whatever flavor I requested (I did have to pay shipping though). They were nice enough to let me keep the 9 cans so I can donate them to my local shelter. Update: The canned beef, chicken and hunks of beef have not posed any problems. I've been using the 100% canned meats, and 'hunks' of beef to supplement my guys' Orijen kibble. WOW! Dakota, Rio, CC (and now our foster kid, Columbo) don't even care about human food any more (well, almost...). Great ingredients, (JAKESIRE said it best: see below) and the Evangers home page ships for a very reasonable prices (2 cases: $9.50 in shipping), or you can get free shipping with k9cuisine.com for orders over $50.

Thu Oct 25 2007This food is gets and easy 5 because still being in college I have done my research on pet nutrition and found my report to revolve around the greatness of Evanger's surprisingly. I was even able to visit the plant where it was made since the owner was so nice to give me a tour to help in my writeup about this company. Not to bore you with the details give this food a try and you wont regret it.

Tue Oct 16 2007Love the 100% canned meat! I add it to Timberwolf kibble. Nice to reduce the variables when trying to determine various issues that may be linked to food.

Thu Sep 13 2007My dog loves the Hunk of Beef. A lot easier than cooking a small roast for your dog. Perfect ingredients. The 100% meat cans for supplementation only.

Thu Aug 30 2007I have been very impressed with Evanger's. I love the single meat source canned foods, especially the game meat line for my allergy dog. They make so many excellent foods that my dog can eat and does well on. I also like the fact that they make their own foods rather than having some other company do it for them.

Mon Jul 30 2007I am SO glad I found Evanger's! I almost lost my dog to the food recall, and my vet recommended Evanger's. I've been using the Chicken Drummettes, and was skeptical because it had the bone in it. But I squished it with my fingers and couldn't believe how it just smushed in my fingers! Of course dogs can eat it, why would the company make a food with bones that a dog couldn't eat! Anyways, my dog has grown all of his hair back, he has so much energy, and I think if I didn't find this food I would have lost my pooch. The best part is they don't use any crap like other companies do: no by-products, no additives, no preservatives. Best food on the market! I know it kept my doggie alive!

Thu Jun 07 2007My dogs love this stuff. Thank you for making such great quality dog food. And for the person that said no probiotics, which is an arguable ingredient to use anyway.
by jakesire
Tue Jun 05 2007Excellent quality. Their kibble is very good as well as their complete canned diners. Great variety, all the standard common meats plus many hard to find game meats dogs love like, buffalo, pheasant and rabbit. WARNING: Their 100% canned is great food but should not be fed exclusively though, because they do not have vitamin and mineral suplements. These cans are meant to supplement a good quality kibble, but are not approved for daily maintenance.

Sun Jun 03 2007Excellent dog food. I really like the Evanger's Game Meat line. They only use 100% meat.

Tue May 29 2007I have only tried the "Hunk of Beef" (Hand-packed specialties - see http://www.evangersdogfood.com/dog/20109.html) and my dog just absolutely loves it!! It's pure beef. I almost had to stop my husband from digging in, it smelled so good :) I mix it with his dry kibble (Orijen) to balance things out...he absolutely loves it!

Tue Apr 04 2006I love this company's 100% canned formulas. They are 100% of whatever protein sources you choose (Duck, chicken, buffalo to name a few). Never tried the dry formula, but my dog loves the canned (especially the pheasent).

Fri Mar 10 2006This is another private label food made but a good company at Ohio Pet Foods. OPF is an excellent pet food manufactuering plant that produces also Blackwood pet foods, Life's Abundance, Canine Zone and Regal Pet Foods....awesome plant with great consitancy and digestability percentages on finished products. I have started feeding Evangers to a couple of my dogs and had no problem in starting it. This product is very similar to the above named products and I am sure I will be quite pleased with the results. My only wish is that it contained probiotics.
