Fri May 27 2011As most posters have said this is a great "Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey" !! For both the price, flavor, and proof which is at %86. Here at my home town its 11.99 for a fifth, vs. jack which is 19.99 and %80 proof. I've gone through 5 bottles so far, and consistency has not faltered. I would rate this very high for a bourbon that delivers.... thank you Evan Williams..... 'Kentucky's 1st Distiller"

Wed Feb 23 2011Proof that the price does not make the bourbon. I'd put the Single Barrel up against bottles that are 3x the price, yet half the worth, and the Black Label is the best bargain in the bourbon aisle. Waitress, Evan Williams Single Barrel 10yr Vintage, neat, with a Sam on the side please ... and the ladies will have Jack and Cokes.

Mon Nov 09 2009After reading so many positive opinions of this product I decided to give it a whirl. Not too big a gamble as it was about $11 for the 750ml bottle at our state owned liquor stores. I was very surprised at how smooth and flavorful this whiskey is. The flavor is simple vanilla with a touch of oak. Maybe a slight maple syrup sweetness in the finish. Value wise it is the best I've had and compares very well with whiskies ranging in price from $15 to $43 for the same size. Keep this review under your hat, if word gets out the increased demand would cause the price to go up! The relative sweetness would make it pair well with classic coke in a mixed drink. I enjoyed it on the rocks with a little splash of water. Very nice indeed.

I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND GIVING IT A SHOT DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR ITS THE BEST VALUE GOING JACK AND JIM MAYBE TRENDY AND COOL BUT EVAN WILLIAMS BURIES THEM BOTH IN TASTE AND VALUE

Sun Sep 13 2009Purchased this bourbon at my local market today. On sale 750ml for ten bucks, couldn't pass it it up. Always try new bourbons without any mixers and on the rocks. This bourbon is actually.... Decent. It has a simple mash taste, little vanilla. Simple: All business. High alcoholic, but easy on the pallet. Not as smooth as well rounded as others just above its price, but definitely NOT bad. I approve.

Sat Aug 29 2009It's not the best Whisky & Bourbon you will ever have, but it is a far cry from the worst. I can't imagine a better whisky for the price. It has a simple oak and vanilla/lime flavor. Very good with coke or another mixer. Definatly reccomend to first time or novice whisky drinkers.

Wed Aug 19 2009Evan Williams tastes like alcohol with artificial bourbon flavoring added.

Thu Aug 13 2009Fantastic to mix with Coke. Strong, cheap, smooth.

Thu Jul 30 2009This is my "everyday" bourbon. I measure all other bourbons by this. Don't get me wrong there are cleaner and smoother bourbons out there. For the money this cannot be beaten. It has a heavy charcoal and vanilla flavor with good woody accents. Not for the faint of heart.

Sat Jul 25 2009drint it with diet coke (for health reasons of course-and mixing with diet anything hits you faster and harder..go through a bottle a week and for the price it can only be equaled by ancient age!!

Fri Jun 05 2009My favorite bourbon, or favorite whiskey/whisky for that matter. I've compared it to dozens of other bourbons, Canadian Whisky and Irish Whiskey, and Evan Williams black is the best. It beats all the expensive ones, hands down, and I even prefer it to Evan Williams single barrel. Evan Williams Black has an honest, straight forward bourbon taste, hints of caramel, and is fairly smooth on my throat. Great straight, on the rocks or mixed.

Sat Mar 07 2009In terms of cheap whiskies, Evan Williams is pretty decent. For about the price of Jack Daniels, you get a better tasting whiskey that is 43 proof. Thanks to cost cutting measures at JD, you can only buck Jack at 40 proof. If I want to drink my bourbon straight, I'll pay for something nicer. However, Evan Williams is pretty solid on the rocks with a twist of lime.

Mon Feb 23 2009For about $15 dollars here in KY a 750ml of this is my daily bourbon. The flavor at this price range is, in my opinion, unmatched. The smooth sweetness of kentucky corn is almost perfectly balanced with a bitter ever so slightly smokiness from the charred oak barrels in which it is aged. There may be better bourbons but not for under forty or fifty bones.

Tue Feb 10 2009It's not the best out there but it's pretty damn good for the money. Truth is I'd take it over Jim Beam white label and anything else in it's range (except for Ancient Ancient Age). Don't drink it neat; you want to take this one with a little ice to mellow it out a little.

Wed Dec 10 2008Evan Williams is the shtiest alcohol ever made. lol. I hate it and I wish everyone would throw the shyte out the door. The reason I feel this way is because I am spending some time with him right now and he is making me feel great. He treats me right and those fools that spend twice as much for a dude named Jack that tastes half as good, don't let them know about my buddy. Tell everyone you know and those you don't that Evan Williams sucks, is the worst shyte you ever tasted. Let them pay high dollar for the weak immitator. Let me pay $10 dollars a 5th for my pal. lol. Make sure you tell them all that Evans tastes like shyte. Jack Daniels is the real whiskey. That's what they need to hear. We will continue to enjoy our friend Evan at half the price and twice the flavor, with no hangover. But Jack Daniels is the shizzle.

Sun Apr 01 2007Evan is not as good a friend as Jack or Jim, but he is still my homeboy. The first alcohol I ever purchased was a fifth of Evan Green for $8. It was nasty as hell but with coke it was bearable. I tried regular Evan and I liked him more.

Thu Jun 15 2006Evan is a good friend of mine and for 17.51 after taxs licences and fees he is very affordable.

Wed Nov 02 2005Good bourbon at great price. Enter the realm of greatness by opting for the single barrel version, which is bettered only by Booker's and Baker's IMHO.

Sat Aug 13 2005Bow down before the god, Evan.

Sat May 07 2005Dragon does not know whisk(e)y - Evan Williams is Kentucky Bourbon, Jack Daniel's is Tennessee Whiskey. EW has been around since the 1780s, JD only since the 1860s. Who's copying who? Do your homework, then post.

Mon Apr 25 2005Especially for the price, a very good bourbon.

Thu Oct 21 2004Tastes much better than many brands costing as much as double its price. This is real, authentic Kentucky Bourbon, made traditionally and aged for 7 years.

Wed Sep 22 2004For the price it is excellent. Not that good with a lot of sweetness and medium bodied. Best for the price but if you got some money to blow get something else.
by dragon_5
Sat Jan 24 2004Not even a good imitation of Jack Daniel's Old #7. Save up and drink good whisky - life's too short to drink crap.

Wed Jan 21 2004This stuff is excellent if you're a poor drunk. I am not saying this stuff is the best quality or best tasting, but for the money it probably is. I have gotton wicked drunk off this stuff.

Tue Nov 04 2003You get what you pay for. They DO have a few higher end entries that are in fact quite good.
