Fun. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet are wonderful. A great love story and interestingly shot.

Michel Gondry is a genius and this film is no exception. Clever and surreal and memorable.

A bit of an odd movie, but it has a great story and a lovely theme if you want to read a lot into it. Definitely one of my favourites.

I found this movie odd and a little hard to follow at times, but it was good. Nothing to write home about, but pretty good.

It won an Oscar. It had the funny Jim Carrey and the beautiful Kate Winslet. But I frankly found it one of the most boring, stultifying, and wearisome movies I have seen in a long time. Right up there with the death-inducing Dogville in terms of boredom. We watched it one night, wifey passed out in 10 minutes and I made it to 15. She blamed me that looking at my droopy eyes made her fall asleep. We tried again a couple of nights later. She konked out in 8 minutes this time while I pretty much drifted off to sleep about the same juncture as the previous night. She had the chutzpah to say the next morning, I still want to see it. Now how good of a movie could it be if it puts 2 fairly intelligent adults asleep twice? My theory is that I just can't stand Charlie Kauffman movies, as I Found Being John Malkovich almost as boring and stupid. Kauffman looked like such a dork at the Oscars during his acceptance speech. 30 seconds, 29 seconds, I find this very unsettling, 26 seconds, I... Read more

This film was better than I ever expected. I like Kaufmann's eccentric, creative and somewhat quirky style that he uses to tell stories like he did in Being John Malkovich. He doesn't go down the road of writing conventional, formulaic movie scripts and like some movie makers nowadays he breaks the rules of the routine consisting of a beginning, middle and end. His characters always have soul and you as the audience care about them. In Eternal Sunshine... the story was to do with love, but he didn't go down the route of making it too sickly, but more entertaining and very interesting. Kaufmann is one of those rare film writers where you can watch his movies over and over again and capture something new that may previously have been overlooked. Jim Carrey is so much better in serious roles than comedy and this is the third film I've seen that he was involed in that I liked. Kate Winslet continues to progress in a profession that shes almost mastered and the supporting cast (Jim ... Read more

You have to expect that any film written by Charlie Kaufman is going to be a little unusual - and Eternal Sunshine certainly is. The plot is crazy - after his girlfriend breaks up with him, Joel (Jim Carrey) learns that she has undergone a radical procedure to erase all memories of him from her brain. Joel is so devastated by the breakup, and heartbroken by his 'erasure' from the memories of his ex, he too decides to go for the procedure. As he is undergoing the procedure, he realizes subconsciously that he DOESN'T want this girl erased from him. That despite all of the pain and heartbreak, he desperately needs to remember. THis begins a desperate game of hide and seek in Carrey's subconscious as Carrey tries to protect his memories from the 'erasers.' As bizarre as the plot sounds, the film is EXTREMELY well done, with stunning performances from Carrey (who I've never liked) and Winslet. The film touches on things like fate and moving on from the heartbreak of a lost love, in a... Read more

I loved this movie! I've never been a major fan of Charlie Kaufman or Jim Carrey, but this was something special. Although the plot may be far fetched, the human emotions were very real to life. A magic movie that kept me thinking about it for days afterwards. I wish more people would see it with an open mind!

Easily one of the best movies ive seen in a long time, just second to Amores Perros. Eternal sunshine is one of the great love stories of our time told with great pace, inteligence and always avoiding corny spots (very non - hollywood). Very few movies have been this keen and this smart at trying to find the essence of love and of relationships in general between men and women. I used to hate Charlie Kaufman and dismiss him as an eccentric screenwriter in urgent need of a Valium or a mental institution, with this he reedems himself completely. Bravo! Matías Pontdebulle

One of the better movies I've seen in a long time. Great acting, great story. Need to see it a few more times to really understand it.

Genius screenplay, beautiful cinematography, exquistite acting (particularly Mr. Carrey), phenomenal soundtrack. Everything comes together like a neatly wrapped packaged, although it may seem at some points to go off in several different directions. If you have an imagination, wonder if true love exists, and enjoy seeing moments on screen that have you reminiscent of some of your favorite moments in life, you will also say it's the best you've seen all year.

Excellent acting and inventive screenplay provide for fine entertainment. Carrey is Oscar-worthy, as is Kate Winslet.

Poorly written, directed, and acted. Jim Carrey turned in the usual horrible manic performance, the female lead was equally bad. And the plot was idiotic. Easily the worst movie of the year to date.

This, as with many artsy films, is a not a film for everyone. I found it thoughtful and deeply emotional. The journey it takes you on is heartbreaking and smile-worthy. Jim Carrey is impressive in a tough performance where he doesn't stray to his typical manic persona. Kate Winslet shines in her role of eccentricity and vulnerablility. It sweeps broadly through the gamut of emotions from melancholy to comedy to love. I was completely touched by this film and think it may be one of the best of 2004.

I've never seen the movie but I thought I'd follow ClassicTVFan's fine example and rate a movie I didn't bother watching. Does anyone else see the problem with this?

From the trailers and reviews, one gets the impression that this one of those moronic angst-ridden pseudo-art films. BORING!
