I just have to say this formula was literally a lifesaver. My daughter (who is 2 1/2 now) was VERY VERY colicky. She cried all day and all night, after about 2 mths of process of elimination (switching to other formulas etc) we finally found Nutramigen and discovered she had really bad reflux. She was put on this formula and within 30 minutes I noticed a difference. My daughter had never slept for longer than 20-30 minutes at a time for the first 6 weeks of her little life, but after taking the first bottle of this she took a 4 hour nap!! I had to keep checking on her thinking something was wrong!! She also slept through the night for the first time!!! It is VERY expensive but well worth it!! She outgrew her allergies and her reflux and is now a happy healthy toddler. Eating and drinking milk and dairy!! No problems at all :) Hang in there all of you mommies going through this, it does get better... and this formula helps tremendously!! We just had another baby boy 5 weeks... Read more

My 5 1/2 week old was on similac alimentum after getting out the IUC when he was only 22 days old. they found out he had a protein problem. He was the alimentum for weeks. The first week was good then thing went bad. He start projectile throwing his food up 2 time a days which would come through his nose and mouth. It was horrible. The projectile of his food cause his sinus to get bothered and he started having alot of mucus in his throat and nose for 9 days which was causing him a hard time to breath. Good thing is he hasn't projectile but once since i switched him to nutramigen 4 days ago.He also got constipated on the alimentum after a week. The extra sugar in it caused him to still have some gas and tummy pains but they weren't as bad as when he was on similac reg. and soy formula or enfamil gentlease. I love how the nutramigen enflora has LCC. I think its great for him to have with all of his tummy problem he has. This formula may cost alot but its so worth it. I did some researc... Read more

My 9 week old son is on Nutramigen also and it has worked wonders!!! He is happy and I am happy :) Someone told me to call my insurance company because they may reimburse for this. I called them (BCBS) and they said that yes they will cover this expense. They told me to call my Pediatrician and have her write an RX for the Nutramigen and take it to a Medical Supply Warehouse (they gave me telephone numbers for locations near me) and they will treat it as an RX and I will pay a co-pay of $5.00!!! I was sooooo happy because the formula is so expensive and my son is only drinking 4 oz every 4 hours. The older he gets the more he is going to take so this really helps out. My older son was on this formula also but I didn't know my insurance would cover it. I wish someone would have told me this before. So hopefully this info helps all of you with this expense. Good luck!

Lovingmother, I know it's expensive. My son is 2 now, and when he was about 6 or 7 months we switched to Enfamil Lactose Free. We found it was easier to digest and was an easy transition. Good luck :-)

My husband and I are very pleased with nutramigen but unfortunately it is so expensive. We are hoping our daughter grows out of her colic stage soon so we can try to put her back on a regular formula. Has anyone done this? Meaning has anyone switched formula brands after six months and did any thing work?

My son was born a month premature and could not tolerate regular milk formula-vomitting(not spitting up), dry heaving, and COPIOUS water diarrhea. The ped said his gi system needs time to mature. I imidiately switched to Nutramigen after much research. I didnt even want to try soy as this is often also not tolerated. This formula worked for my baby, no more of these symptoms from the first bottle. I do have some issues with the product though. It is expensive, why it cost so much more to make then other formula is beyond me. It does not come in larger more economical sizes. Maybe I am paranoid, but could Enfamil be doing there best to get as much profit as possible using the fact that this formula is not really a choice but a nessesity in some babies-that if you need this formula we parents will spend whatever it takes to help our babies. Another problem is the loose stools this formula gives my son. His bottom is always sore from this stuff. The ped said this is common with... Read more

Well we tried regualr cows milk and then even soy, but my son did not like either one. For the first 3 months we had him on Nutramigen, but it is so expensive! By the end of the 2 month, we noticed him getting VERY bad gas and colic. I hate to even fed the formula to him because of the awful taste and smell! But now i can't at all. He is so gasy and irratable that we need to change formulas. If it works for your baby great, but beware of the price. Try ebay for cheaper prices. I looked and you can really save money than going to a local store. Also beware the powder can cause samonilla. I learned that in a baby class. The liquids decrease the chances of it, but they only last for 2 days in the frige!

I am horrified that doctors even recommend this formula. It is sugar (corn syrup solids) and vegetable oil, with corn starch for texture! That's it! There is no nutritional value at all! I can't believe I didn't read the ingredients sooner and I was so trusting of doctors. My baby is allergic to milk-based formulas and soy. I tried goat's milk but he broke out in excema. I've heard rice milk can't be substituted for infant formula. The cost of this sugar-water is unbelievable. I feel stuck, I'd love to know of a healthier alternative.

Thank god for this formula, My baby boy is sleeping more, crying less. His poops are back to normal. He is more aware of his surroundings because he can now concentrate on other things, other than the pain of gas, bloating and cramps. I tried him on Good Start (omega 3&6) as well as Alsoy, also by Good Start, Both made him sick, and the soy clogged the nipples. Nutramigen is heaven sent for colicky babies & stressed out parents. My sanity, and a happy baby are SO worth the price. And it's not that much more than Good Start anyway. Try this if all else has failed. Your baby will thank you.

Doctor recommended this and it has been a God send. Price doesn't matter when it comes to comfort/health of our baby! Strongly suggest that any parent struggling with baby's indegestion, gas, colic realted issues ask your pediatrician if you can try this formula. We noticed a difference in eating and sleeping habits within 72 hours and a 360 degree difference at week's end!

After trying to breastfeed my 2nd son for 3 weeks, he developed colic. I was going to formula feed after two months anyway and knew exactly that I was going to use Nutramigen. My sister fed two beautiful girls with it who struggled with feeding issues, and milk allergies seem to be a habitual problem with my family. The smell and taste are different than other formulas, but I noticed a difference with my son after the first feeding. He was relaxed, content, and not struggling through the feeding. During the first month we used the liquid concentrate with distilled or nursery water (important). Unlike milk based formula, Nutramigen does not bubble when shaken, thus we found that burping our child was easier. Is he healthy now after a month of use? Yes! He went from 8 lbs 4 oz. to 10 lbs. 15 oz. and thrives. Is the price worth it? Absolutely! A happy baby and my ability to sleep is worth the difference in price.

I love this product because it resolved my sons constipation problems. I tried everything extra water, prune juice, flax oil, probiotics and many other formulas. Within 2 days he was having regular baby bowel movements with no pain. It smells terrible, I can't imagine how it tastes! I mixed it with his old formula and gradually kept adding more nutramigen.

This formula is heaven sent. The smell and taste are horrible, but our baby has had it from two weeks and doensn't seem to mind. Due to the high price, we tried to switch to the new Enfamil Gentlease formula. After only two days on the new stuff, our son was gassy, constipated and crying all night long in pain. Thus, we are back on Nutramigen and we are ALL much happier.

My husband and I LOVE this formula. Like others mentioned, the smell and price can be wearing, but it's much worth the content baby. My son was very colicky for weeks. We tried Enfacare, Enfamil Lipil, Similac Isomil Advance, and Enfamil Prosobee. None of these worked and the soy seemed to worsen the problem. I found helpful advice on www.askdrsears.com and decided to try Nutrimigen. By his next feeding, he was a different baby. He's 10 weeks old and doing great. I would recommend trying other things first, because of the price, but don't just go with what's cheap and smells good if it's hurting your little one.

I really do not care about the comments on the Nutritional Value of this formula, it is what kept my daughter alive! My daughter was put on Similac, Enfamil and Good Start regular, soy and lactose free and she was loosing weight at an alarming rate (she was only 6 lbs 3 oz born full term). I tried to nurse but (I supplimented with formula and lost my breast milk). It was heartbreaking to see my daughter suffering and being hooked up to and IV and too weak to even respond and feeling helpless. The two wonders were PediSure and Nutramigen. My daughter is now 18 months old and is a very petite 21 pounds and super healthy and has no alergies to dairy products. Nutramigen is not for milk allergies it is for Milk Protien sensitivities that most babies grow out of. Email me if you need info on getting some free from your insurance or WIC. After buying several cases at full price I learned how to get it free in most cases. [email protected]

My son was colicky after two weeks out of the womb. I was breastfeeding and the baby broke out in a hive like rash on face and arms and back and was very gassy. I was eating a lot of dairy so I thought maybe that was the problem especially since I hated dairy while I was pregnant. Doctors had me try Isomil which was bad for him left him constipated and I decided to try Nutramigen. Baby went from crying 6hrs a day to good baby. For us it was a miracle. We called the the liquid gold milk because it is expensive but well worth every penny.

For my son who cannot tolerate milk protein (and cannot have soya milk either), this is the only milk I have found that he can tolerate - unfortunately he doesn't like the taste (so I disguise it in cereals and with fruit, jelly, etc.) The cost is very expensive though, but it's worth it because it is the only milk my son can have.

I have tried every type of formula there is to try, but nothing worked for my son. He was sick with a colic for the first four weeks of his life because of the formula. I tried Enfamil Nutramigen, and it worked. It is the only fromula that he can tollerate. The only problem with it is it's cost. And, we compared labels on Enfamil Prosobee, and Enfamil Nutramigen, and they are practaclly the same.

This and Similac Alimentum are for babies with food allergies and colic. I tried this when I did not have enough breastmilk for both babies and they both had colic (which should be illegal for twins to come down with...). One whiff of this should be all you need- it's awful! Nutramigen is made out of corn syrup solids and smells and tastes horrific. I could not bear to feed this to my children and it is of questionable nutritional value compared to other formulas and breastmilk because of the shoddy ingredients it's made out of. Another major drawback with the hypoallergenic formulas is the astronomical price. While most name brand formulas cost $12-13, these cost $22-25!!! Really, if you are having trouble with allergies and colic, try to give as much breastmilk as possible and then try Carnation Good Start or one of the lactose free or soy varieties first. These should be a last resort.
