Mayans this, Revelations that... wake up, people. You waste alot of energy on something you can't do squat about. If it happens, it happens. Try living in the mean time. Oh yeah, one more thing, any "Christians" that are head over heels for this shit are at least bordering on idolatry. Chew on that. UPDATE: Hmm... some people didn't like this review. I don't think they understand it, still. When you buy too heavily into the end times stuff, I think you really are replacing faith in God with faith in yourself. I can see the signs, I know what's going to happen, and I can do something about it, right? What was it that Jesus said, something about coming like a thief in the night? Eh, either way, devoting alot of time and energy to this quackery is, by and large, a waste of time from a practical perspective and a dangerous diversion from a Christian's walk in the worst case. Keep chewing.

The rise of nuclear weaponry creates that potential that all civilization can be wiped out in a moment of great tempest. We should consider ourselves blessed that cooler heads have consistently prevailed, but really, it's only a matter of time. Could a nuclear exchange wipe out 6 billion people in one swipe? Probably not, but it could drastically change the way we live. Frankly, I do believe that an apocalypse, as expressed in Biblical sources, is very well possible. Developments in weaponry technology only bear this out.

My wife buys into this. I won't bash her, nor any other believers, because there truly are some eery similarities in the predictions of various peoples very disparate in time, geography, or both. Plus, per Abicharra, the possibility of instantaneous apocalypse is now a technological reality (thanks, science!). That said, my personal take is this: a lot of these "predictions" (by Nostradamus and the like) have been stretched kind of thin. People who are invested in a belief, or who want to find certain connections, will see significance in, say, a poem about a flooding river, that people like me will not see. Maybe I lack the capacity for abstract though. Or maybe it's just a poem about a flooding river.

Everything from the major religions of the world, to the Mayan prophecies, to physics predicts this with varying rationale. Opinions on this will obviously vary; but I don't get those who scoff at the concept.

As far as my own mind can comprehend, if it has a beginning then it must have an end, right? Maybe not. Anyway, based on this, then yeah the world will end. According to science it won't be for a couple million (billion?) years when the sun goes out. According to various religious and social traditions it will be much sooner. All depends on what you choose to believe I guess.

Well, if it doesn’t end during my time I won’t lose any sleep over it. If it does…I might be a bit startled.

We have had hundreds of years of prophecies from prophets that we are in the end times. After a while, it gets a little old.

Is this like "last call" in the bar? That is kind of scary. After all, its about that time when some really ugly women start looking attractive.

Are we talking about the event itself or the people who believe in it? Hopeful delusions of a non-existent apocalypse don't worry me. The few who expect this end also believe themselves to be saved, so I doubt they're fearful of it either. The subset of those folks who then decide to live in a reckless and increasingly consumptive way don't frighten so much as enrage me.

When believers [who feel they were sent by God to hurry up the "End Times"] are in power, we should all be frightened.http://www.talk2action.org/story/2007/8/8/15186/724 31http://www.yuricareport.com/Dominionism/DirectoryRi seOfDominionismInAmerica.htmlhttp://www.religioustolerance.org/millenni.htm

If this isn't the end times? then I don't know when it will be. The end times should never scare a saved true Christian, they should be extremely happy. I mean, that's the way it should be. If it scares the hell out of you, you should be scared, and you are not saved.
