Ella Fitzgerald is simply a brilliant artist. She managed to bring something new to the industry, without losing her jazz edge or going against the gain and losing her jazz concept. I absolutely love Ella Fitzgerald and I could probably write a review that was much more than 5,000 characters. She is definitely someone I respect and admire. One of my favorite songs by Ella is her cover of George Gerswhin's "Summertime". She definitely brought that song to life. Everything from her vocal to her projection was amazing and she truly made you believe what she was singing, as a result. I think she's one of the best female singers to have ever walked planet earth and what makes her even more amazing is, no one ever sounds like her. She's definitely one of her kind and clearly knew who she was, as well as, her place in music.

Beats Billie hands down. She scats better than coltrane or parker plays sax. Never off a note, gotta love that perfect pitch. I love you Ella.

Truly, one of the greats. Fads may come and go but her recordings will continue to hold up no matter what becomes popular at the moment..... had Ella Fitzgerald married Darth Vader...... she would have been Ella Vader!

Ella is the best. I have a pretty decent collection of her music that I was really into a few years ago and even being 21 at the time I was blown away and just really moved by her soulful, yet childlike sweet voice. Her earliest stuff is the best but even in her later years she performed with the utmost poise and grace. She was the best at scatting and could swing with the best of the bands accompanying her. It would have been wonderful if she could have achieved some personal goals that seemed to escape her, her personal life seemed to be filled with so much heartache. But after performing for 50 years, she is definitly a great legend.

It doesn't get any better than Ella. My favorites are when she does Gershwin with Louis. No one can top her scatting on the song Lady Be Good, the live version. All Hail Queen Ella!

Anybody who saw her perform at the Fox Theatre in Detroit saw the rarest of entertainers. As big as she was, nobody ever put more into a performance energywise .Her only competition talentwise was and still is Sarah Vaughn.

brilliant musician. Her singing is unmatched in terms of improvisation and pure energy - there's always such ebullience in her voice. She was almost refused her first gig because the bandleader was looking for a small, pretty singer and Ella was so far from that - but her talent was so incredible it got her way farther than good looks could ever do.

Get yourself a recording of her version of Gershwin's "Embraceable You." That song alone will explain to you why she is so well-respected. I'd probably take her over Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan and maybe even Billie Holiday. Her version of "Summertime" w/ Louis Armstrong is another keeper.

Whether she's belting out her own version of "Mack the Knife" or crooning out "Blue Moon" or "My Funny Valentine"...she will FOREVER be the Queen of Jazz music. I am in awe of this woman's spectacular voice...her voice is soft as silk.

Ella has to be the best female big band/jazz singer ever. Her voice is a thousand times better than Billie Holiday's, and she can sing a song like nobody else can.

This woman, even more than Billie Holiday, is my all-time favorite jazz singer. When she teams up with Louis Armstrong, these two make one unmatchable duo!
