Tue Nov 30 2010Bathing in blood, hrmm? Well, I did hear that blood is a great exfoliant. (yes, I am joking about that) I would say that killing 600 women and girls is pretty evil, however it just doesn't compare to killing millions, nor does it compare to performing experiments or torture sessions (Spanish inquisition) that would leave victims reeling in extreme pain for hours, days, even weeks. In terms of bathing in blood, that seems more psychotic than evil. Fits snug right in there with cannibalism.

Thu Nov 29 2007She was a Transylvanian princess of the late 16th and early 17th Century. Her brother was Price of Transylvania, and basically an Ottoman puppet, since the Ottoman conquest of Hungary in 1543. The Turks allowed a shadow independence in Transylvania and promoted Protestantism to divide the Christians. Transylvania was a part of the old Kingdom of Hungary. Its population was about 10% German, 20% Hungarian and 70% Romanian. The Germans and most of the Hungarians were Protestant, and the Bathorys were the champions of the Protestants in this eastern part of the world. The Romanians were Orthodox. The Hungarians in Transylvania were either Calvinists or Unitarians, the Unitarians mostly located among the Szeklers, a branch of the Hungarians. Most of the Germans were Lutherans. The Hapsburgs in Vienna were attempting to regain control over Transylvania and the Bathorys were opposed to them. Perhaps some of the legend of Elizabeth was spread by the Hapsburgs, but historically s... Read more

Thu Nov 29 2007Elizabeth Báthory (Báthory Erzsébet in Hungarian, Alžbeta Bátoriová(-Nádasdy) in Slovak, Elzbieta Batory in Polish, August 7(?), 1560 August 21, 1614), was a Hungarian countess from the renowned Báthory family. The family is remembered for defending against the Ottoman Turks. She is known as the most infamous serial killer in Hungarian and Slovak history and is remembered as the Bloody Lady of Cachtice, after the castle near Trencín, in Royal Hungary, in present-day Slovakia, where she spent most of her life. After her husband's death, she and four alleged collaborators were accused of torturing and killing dozens of girls and young women, with one witness saying over 600 victims. In 1610, she was imprisoned in Cachtice Castle, where she remained in her room bricked in until her death four years later. Since she was a Countess she was never formally tried in court. The Báthory case has inspired many legends, including a false story of the countess bathing in the blood of her victims ... Read more

Sun Aug 06 2006i believe she is the evilest because unlike some people above her she killed the people instead of getting people to kill others she did it herself and one of her techniques involved a whip with a hook atached to the end of it while the person she whipped was facing her so she could see their face as she beat them with her whip

Mon Apr 03 2006I believe this is the same woman known as the 'Blood Countess'. I would have rated her a 5 if I could be sure she actually did everything she was accused of, but that is not possible either way. Some of her immediate family members twisted her even more when she was growing up - but again who knows for sure? In any event, what a hideous legacy. Didn't one of her descendants claim he was possessed by her after committing murder?

Tue Dec 06 2005A very evil, twisted woman who thought that bathing in human blood (particularly blood from women), she'd look young forever.
