Been there many times. The park running through the middle of the city is the only nice thing about it. Culture, as some people claim here, consists mainly of the huge mall. That's right, a shopping mall. The Fringe festival is amaturish, the city IS full of rednecks, and the buildings/houses/architechture is rather dreary, depressing, and unimaginative.

um excuse me but how can you saw West Edmonton Mall is bad? It has a themepark, the worlds largest indoor waterpark, a hotel, a remake of christopher columbus' santa-maria, a golf course, and over like 350 shops, flamingos, penguin, dolphins, and sealions. like this is just in the mall people..

Edmonton and Calgary are just alive because of the oil, once that's gone, and it can't be too far away...it's over...

Edmonton is a good place to live and visit. It has the largest connected park system in North America, over 60 golf courses, the worlds largest mall, and a lot of culture. Despite what many people might think, Edmonton has one of the most educated populations in North America, and the people here are very kind and tolerant. Not too many rednecks. Now just over a million people, Edmonton is on the verge of becoming a metropolis. Although Calgary has a major corporate sector and a little more money, it is at the cost of its culture.

Edmonton was a huge disappointment. It seemed very poorly kept for the most part. The roads were really bad and the whole city had a dirty look about it. The Mall was a bit of a disappointment too, but was still the highlight of the trip. It was unclean, like the rest of the city, and the people were real jerks, as they were everywhere else as well. I don't think I'll come back to Edmonton, once was enough.

Edmonton is a dump. It's just like Calgary which is also a huge dump. The mall sucks as you can tell by the upkeep just like the rest of the city.

This is the best city in Canada!!! Taxes are the lowest, no provincial income taxes and vandalism is non existant. They have a great park system in the downtown area and it is a very prosperous city of a million inhabitants where unemployment is next to nil. For the rest come here and see for yourselves. Did I mention the northern lights and the river valley?

I really like this city. Being located in Alberta it has its fair share of redneck loudmouth idiots, but far far far fewer than Calgary or Red Deer. The mountains are quite far away, but the river valley running through the city is breathtaking in the fall. Since Edmonton and Calgary like to pick on each other, I will join the fray and say that of the two, Edmonton has the better quality of citizens, which makes a tremendous difference if you have to live there for any length of time (gorgeous scenery becomes dull and unnoticeable after awhile). There are a lot of great parks and bike paths; you tend to forget you're in a large city most of the time. The only thing wrong with Edmonton is that it often feels like one gigantic suburb. It sprawls forever and ever (kind of like Calgary), but there are freeways and stuff so it never takes much longer than twenty-five minutes to get anywhere. It is a surprisingly cultured city as well, and I'm not talking cowboy culture either. As an... Read more

Go to the festivals in Edmonton - especially the Fringe and the Jazz and Folk Festivals. Probably one of the pretiest cities there are in the summer. People are exceedingly friendly and helpful. The Mall is much more than a mall too - great place to go, lots to do for kids and recreation - especially if you have a cool or rainy day. An great theatre and state of the art concert hall ...it's really something! The Space and Science center is a must see and if you're a golfer - over 60 courses in the area for as little as $25 Canadian up to a maximum of $60 or so.

Edmonton is a wonderful city to live in and visit. We have a thriving theatre community, great festivals all year round and wonderful cultural events. The river valley is beautiful in all seasons (especially fall). Having visited much larger places, I'm glad to have grown up here!

The winter isn't that great, I'll admit it, but there are some beautiful areas to this city. In the summer, the river valley is just gorgeous. It's also close enough to the mountains, that a short jaunt there is easy.
