Edinburgh, Scotland

Well what can i say i love Scotland so much beautiful countryside and Inverness, Glasgow and Aberdeen were all fantastic........but as its capital Edinburgh is such a let down. It is a boring city that is full of beggars and drug dealers, i was offered heroin 3 times on princes street, which has to be the worst shopping street of any city i have been to in the UK (including Cardiff). The door stewards at the clubs were rude and the locals were abrasive (and ugly), with no sense of humour. The biggest thrill i got from Edinburgh was leaving! Overated and the only reason it gets a 2 is because it is in Scotland.

Great memories of the Christmas pageants and the castle.

Athens of the north is a beautiful city filled with history and spectacular views. Has a great zoo and Princess St. is the place for the serious shopper. Their is also the Castle and Holly Rood Palace. Best place to see the city is from Arthur's Seat which is an extinct volcano, the only one in Britain. Lots of things to see and do.

Theres something just not right about this city, visited and left feeling cheated, it looks nice but its all superficial, underneath there is a lack of amenities and things to do, sure the castle is great but after that there isnt a lot else left to fill the days......locals are extremely rude and appear to have no time for visitors to the city, great country to visit, shame about its capital.

Very dissappointing stayed in the city for 1 week and spent my final 2 days in Glasgow because i had ran out of things to do in Edinburgh, a city for the old.

My favorite city in the world - can't wait to get back for another visit! The atmosphere, the food, the wonderful Scots ....just great!

Edinburgh was okay. It's got a beautiful castle, but the rest of the city was a bore. I guess being a history buff is a must for visiting this city.

I came here with a few days left over to blow when I was in England. I'm so glad I went. E'Burgh is a fantastic, unique city. It still has the characteristic soot on its buildings left over from the 1800s. The Royal Mile is a kick. Check out the local pubs, have a Belhaven's and later, head over to the eerie Greyfriars Kirkyard.

Any amount of things for an intelligent visitor to see and do. Lots of good eating too - but if all you want to do is go to a pub and get drunk, stay at home. And don't even think about driving a car in the city centre. Use the buses instead.

A little overwhelmed by the castle, even though it makes for good pics. The Old vs. New side creates a bit too much a divide for my taste and I didn't find it particularly too much fun to walk around.

hmm1234 - could I kindly suggest that the next time you are in Edinburgh you try a little imagination? It's not a big city and there is loads of stuff to do there. I'm English and a Londoner but at the risk of breaking a British tradition, I will compliment this great Scots city. The only theing missing from Edinburgh is a river running through it. Otherwise, it has everything.

There not many things to do in Edinburg. And London is much better in terms of People, Attractions

Scotland is much better than England, and the capital is absolutely so charming and scots are so friendly .....

Pretty, but not London. Nothing else is.

Here are a few important questions to ask when you get to Edinburgh: When does the 1 O'Clock gun go off? Couldn't they have built the Castle a little bit nearer to the train station? Finally, is it true you can go haggis hunting on Calton Hill late at night?

The most false city you could visit, it has a castle and not much else prepare to be bored, the locals are rude and there is very little to do.

Edinburgh is a great city. The people are very friendly and there are many beautiful sites to explore. The castle cannot be missed. Also, the Ghost Tours and Scotch tour are surprisingly fun!

i just love edinburgh. yes i am scottish. the architecture is wonderful. go down the royal mile and stop in some of the little stores. be there for the edinburgh festival - a fascinating and fun time to be there, especially for the parade at the end and the fireworks in front of the castle god i'm homesick

I agree with the previous poster about the bagpipes in Edingburgh being unforgettable. I would make only one ammendment. They sound so peaceful and idyllic from a distance but up close and personal it just sounds like loud obnoxious screeching. For instance when you step out of the rail station and there's a guy on the sidewalk playing for tips and you feel like someone just suckered punched you when you stepped around the corner because it's so loud and overpowering. However, a couple of blocks away you don't believe it was the same guy as it softens. The city though is incredible such a beautiful place it really is incredible. I would go back there in a second. The castle it's enormous and a definite must see. Everything about Edinburgh was great the buildings, the streets, the people.. on that note we were supposed to stay with a relative and there was a mix up so we were in some random pub with our packs, met some locals and stayed at their place over night. I was a sailor aboard the USS Kearsarge in 1947. Our ship was anchored near the Forth Bridge. I remember hearing the sound of bagpipes floating across the water from a little town on the south shore. It was a sound I will never forget. We were give pound notes when we left the ship to go into Edinburgh. We had no change, so the bus driver just let us go into Edinburgh free. This was just after World War II and I think food was still scarce. I remember seeing a broken egg on the sidewalk and a lady saying what a shame that was. That was 53 years ago and it seem just like yesterday. I guess love doesn,t have anything to do with time.

Being Scottish and in Scotland, I really like Edinburgh. It has lovely architecture, interesting things to do, good shopping, the Festival is great. And the Hogmanay celebrations...! But, being originally Glaswegian(i.e. from Glasgow), I don't think I could ever really love it the way I love my home city... :-)
