Sat Aug 11 2007Corkigabu, I totally agree about the University. I think it is a wonderful school for non-traditional and diverse students. It has a lot to offer and has a great reputation in the education and business schools. I will be a teacher this year and thankful to all of my professors who were helpful throughout my collegiate career. A few things I didn't enjoy was the way EMU administrators would add classes to my program after my program was established. I had to pay additional credits for classes that were useless as a future teacher. I have to disagree that is is inexpensive. EMU charged for everything even my diploma and other certificates. Some of the certificates were a piece of paper with the EMU header. Come on!!! I was charged for a language lab fee in my tuition, which the school doesn't even have a foreign language lab. Funny! They get you for your money, so be cautious. Ypsilanti is a working class city and is trying to improve as a community. I lived off-campus for... Read more

Sat Mar 18 2006I just want to comment, as an EMU student, that not only are the comments of epiphany35 ignorant and racist, this person obviously is the kind of person who attracts negativity by his/her nature, so don't take any of his/her critiques of EMU or Ypsilanti seriously. EMU is indeed a working class school that is friendly to a diverse student body with many different needs (with families, working through school) and is relatively inexpensive as compared to other 4-year institutions. It also has many programs that help under-prepared students (PASS and SIP). It also has many top-rate programs geared to the needs of Michigan residents and is well-known for producing teachers. As a commuter college is does struggle to keep students involved in student activities, but this does not prevent the school from offering many interesting activities (music, theater, student government, community service, etc) for those students who choose or have time to participate. I have also found the staff to be ... Read more

Sat Oct 29 2005Eastern Michigan University is located in the city of Ypsilanti Michigan and has a student population of 18,000. Ypsilanti is part of the economically depressed area of Southeast Michigan. Most students are commuters from the surrounding area. EMU is mostly a working class school and many students work full time jobs and take classes. Michigan is known for bad weather, bad roads, and bad government. Ypsilanti is known for corrupt dishonest business people. NEVER have your car repaired in Ypsilanti. Ypsilanti is sometimes called "Ypsitucky" on account of many of its residents being people who migrated to the area from Kentucky and other parts of the south. People who work at Eastern Michigan University have a longstanding reputation for incompetence, corruption, and dishonesty. It is an unscrupulous bureaucracy that steals students' money by any means necessary. When students find themselves having to resolve something such as an incorrect charge or a wrongful parking violati... Read more
