One of the few players ever that could have dominated in the pros without having gone to college. The most powerful legs of any back ever. His thighs were acually larger than his waist! Could probably have averaged fours yards a carry without an offensive line. I saw him run over too many defensive players to count. What a joy to watch. A true legend.

An extremely aggressive running back who make everyone around him gaze in awe.

This guy was fun to watch, you never knew if he was going to get up from a hit because he took his time. To bad he got stuck with the oilers.

This is my guy. He along with Dickerson has the best start of anyone in history for running backs. His first 5 years, he was simply unstoppable. But he simply ran out of gas. If you give me the choice of choosing any running back in history, i would take Earl Campbell in his prime. I know it was short but this guy put fear in the defense with his power. Not only that, he actually had speed too. He could run inside or outside.

The year he won the Heisman trophy, it should have been awarded to Terry Miller instead.

The toughest back I ever saw. His toughness actually cut his career short. There are only som many hundreds of defenders you can trample before your body wears down.

Earl Campbell was the most aggressive running back I have ever seen. His power was amazing. He had a play where he speared a defender and knocked the defender out of the game. He made his Houston Oiler team good and without him they would have been losers.

One of the best thing to come out of Earl Campbell's short but storied career is the analogy; "That girl's got thighs like Earl Campbell." I've only heard it used only a handful of times, but when you hear it, you never forget it. It immediately invokes images of Earl's powerful, tree-trunk legs plowing through stick-men defenders on the way to the goal line. Very descriptive, but not necessarily somethig that you would want to hear about your girlfriend, or sister, or mom....
