I came to this well after it was a cult classic among Sci-fi buffs, and found it an entertaining, and well crafted novel. I didn't thing, however, that it came close to the masterful works of Dick, Brunner, Bester, et al.

This book has become my standard (not that I could ever live up to it) for not wasting water. Not to mention it's a good book (although it does have its tedious moments).

I've read all six Dune novels by F. Herbert and I loved them all. Although it is not what you would call 'hard' sci-fi, due to the overtly religious themes and such, it was certainly ground-breaking. The Lord of the Rings of science fiction, if you will. I even liked the original motion picture based on the novel, although the ending was garbage beyond all compare. One thing that I find cool is that computers are basically outlawed, and society has to rely on human computers known as Mentats. Terrific series of books. I would recommend them to anyone, even those who abhor sci-fi.

Frank Herbert crafted what is probably the most intelligent and mind bending scienfe fiction novel of all time. Dune is so complex, yet also masterful in its character and story development that it must be read to be believed. Although the ideas can be difficult and heady, once you immerse yourself in Dune, you are transported to a world unlike any other.
