Mon Nov 02 2009This is one of the best horror movies I have seen in a long time!Starring ,Alison Lohman and Justin Long. Both were great in this movie. The special effects were mesmerizing! Anyone that likes horror movies should see this one. This movie will make you think twice before commiting theft or anything.

Thu Jul 02 2009I saw this movie had a really good rating on Rotten Tomatoes so I thought I would watch it. I became interested when I saw it was about her being cursed by a woman who was losing her home. It being a kind of gypsy curse I did find it interesting. I was going to give it 4 stars but there are several flaws with it. It has good casting. I thought the psychic was very good. Everything is believable for that type of movie. It has very spooky effects. It begins to get tiring. If someone is actually psychic it can seem silly with their take on it and going to Hell. That though is part of the fun of it. It depends if you are taking it seriously or going for a campy adventure. The effects do get to be sickening. Now I see he is the same director from the Evil Dead so that is good. It is interesting from the point of view of how the girl is acting. Whoever wrote the script was quite malicious. She is a good looking girl. But she is in trouble because she is not doing well enough at the office ... Read more

Fri Jun 19 2009Sorry Mr. Raimi. I had lost a little faith in you. After realizing this film had the PG-13 rating attatched, I was extremely skeptical. But I was glad I broke down and experienced DRAG ME TO HELL in the theater. Seriously, I haven't laughed this hard at ANY movie in a long time. At first glance, the setup is pretty silly. But it may very well be a sly jab at the recent corrupt mismanagement of financial markets that led to the housing bust. An old gypsy lady puts a curse on Christine, the woman who denies her a further extension on a home loan. One should never disrespect their elders, and now all hell's about to break loose. Okay, I didn't immediately buy into this "old lady stalking the young gal" premise. It seemed pretty ridiculous. But before long you will catch Raimi's intent, and you can't help but give in to the lunacy. It's mind-boggling! Blood, guts, demons, and wacky-wild sadistic humor that will leave you horrified and cackling with laughter. It's amazin... Read more

Tue Jun 16 2009I was never a fan of Sam Raimi. I hadn't even seen anything of his besides the Spiderman movies and The Gift...all, of which, I enjoyed. So, I wasn't too familiar with his "horror movie roots". I was pleasantly surprised. I remember seeing the poster for this at a theatre months before it came out. I'd never heard of it and I'd heard no hype at all. I thought it looked interesting so I watched the trailer and I got SO excited to see it! I've read SO many people saying that this movie didn't do too well because of it's rating, it's release date and it's lack of star power. I have to agree with the release date. I personally think it would have done better had it been released closer to Halloween. The PG-13 rating excuse is COMPLETE nonsense because there are several good horror films out there that are rated PG-13...this one doesn't even feel PG-13. I think the fact that people won't go see it simply because of the rating is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. All of you pe... Read more

Mon Jun 15 2009After being disturbed by Evil Dead and delighted by Evil Dead II, I decided to host a showing of the two movies to share the madness with my friends. We then all went to the opening of Army of Darkness. We were confused (the three films vary widely in tone) but ultimately loved them all, adopting the Raimi clan and The Man, Bruce Campbell, as one of our own in geekdom. Ever since then, Raimi's fans have been waiting for him to return to his horror roots. Oh, we've gotten hints that he hasn't forgotten us through the years. We caught the Evil Dead II homage in the chainsaw sequence from Spider-Man. Campbell is in just about every movie Raimi produces. And the Oldsmobile Delta 88 makes an appearance in Drag Me to Hell - a big appearance, actually - as it has in every Raimi movie since Evil Dead. The Oldsmobile's arrival signals that Drag Me to Hell is a quintessential Raimi horror film. Drag Me to Hell harkens back to the golden age of 80s horror, an era Raimi helped spawn, whe... Read more

Sun Jun 14 2009"Drag me to hell" has become a sleeper hit in what has been an otherwise poor summer line-up. It was nice to see Sam Raimi return to his old school roots with a bigger budget under his belt. I can only imagine was the "Evil Dead" movies would of been like if he made made them with the same backing. Anyway, the movie follows the unfortunate tale of loan officer Christine Brown. Christine is in line to get a nice promotion but her boss thinks that she's too nice to make the tough decisions needed to do the job. In attempt to prove to her boss that she has some backbone, she decides to refuse the loan request of a very creepy gypsy woman. The gypsy woman, having felt that Christine shamed her proceeds to curse her by sending a black goat demon that will take her soul to hell in three days time. Time ticks away as Christine looks for away to lift the curse. What's appealing about "Drag me to Hell" is that it's the perfect mix for horror and comedy. There where numerous times where ... Sun Jun 14 2009Went into this not realizing it was a Sam Raimi film. A wild ride with twists and turns. Must be the first Raimi film in a long time without a Bruce Campbell cameo. If you are looking for something in the ARMY OF DARKNESS vein forget. This a relentlessly spooky film.

Sun Jun 07 2009Saw this the other night. Basically, it's about a loan officer at a bank who is given the chance to make her first management-level decision. Unfortunately, she makes the wrong decision (right one for the bank, however) and denies an old gypsy lady an extension on her failing mortgage. The gypsy's grey right eye should have given her a clue (she had, obviously, never read The Tell-Tale Heart). The gypsy gets reallllllllllllllllllllllly pissed-off and puts a curse on her and makes her life a living Hell. Her financé knows what's going on and witnesses her demise and, in my favorite scene, actually takes her home to meet his parents over dinner. What was he thinking? I actually laughed out loud...especially when the gypsy's eye pops out of her carrot cake. This is decent stuff and I couldn't help but think that if this flick had been released in November of 1973, "The Exorcist" may not have become the iconic horror story of its time. But, as "The Exorcist" has not aged terribly well, th... Read more

Tue Jun 02 2009Drag Me to Hell is fantastic if you happen to like the slapstick horror-comedy genre that Sam Raimi, (director and co-writer of this film), made famous with the Evil Dead trilogy. I'm certainly a fan. Unfortunately, it's being marketed as a straight horror film which will undoubtedly cause it to be blasted by critics and audiences who don't get it. The film is campy, funny, gross (without being gory) and generally unburdened by studio oversight. It must have been a nice diversion for Raimi who directed the Spiderman Trilogy in recent years. Despite being funny as hell, it still makes you jump with the help of great timing and shock value. The fact that one of the things that accomplishes this is a possessed handkerchief should be enough of a clue that this Drag Me to Hell isn't trying to take itself seriously. Other highlights: Alison Lohman, who does a solid job as the film's main protagonist, attacks the gypsy who has cursed her with a stapler (!) and practically gets gummed to d... Read more
