This is a Jewish Law. Gentiles are free from the laws God gave the chosen people.

Which seventh day are you talking about? Why is it specifically necessary to keep that day holy above all others? Because it's "The Lord's Day?" Since "The Lord" supposedly has dominion over all of the universe, isn't every day "The Lord's Day?" It follows that why shouldn't every day be kept holy? If I keep the seventh day "holy," does this take me off the hook for being a scumbag during the rest of the week? And, why is labor, a most noble and necessary effort, considered unholy? Why is slacking off considered so morally elevated? Now I know why all those folks down in the Bible Belt tend to sit on their lazy asses so much. They're being "holy." Or, more accurately, "assholy." I don't understand how if you have slaves, that you subscribe to the scummy practice of enthralling another human being as mere chattel, you could be considered "holy" under any circumstances. Just another poopsmear of Biblical nonsense, reflecting the intellectually limited and illogical warped nat... Read more

Months, days and years were completely different then. For example, seven days didn't mean seven days. It meant seven years, and so on. It's alright to set aside a holy day for God, but it doesn't have to be Sunday.

God knew what He was doing when He commanded this one. Humans just can't work 7 days a week without suffering emotional and physical burn out. Need a day to chill.

I believe that we now live under grace. This doesn't mean that we shouldn't break the commandments, but it does mean that we won't be smitten if we do. Also, I have a hunch that the whole "male or female slave" bit no longer applies.

Important, but it's Saturday, not Sunday, people. Every body needs a time for relaxation and reflection

But this day in age, no one really understands it plus they argue about what is the 7th day Saturday or Sunday?

I had a buddy who turned on the lights in the Orthodox Jewish Synagogue since nobody could do it on the sabbath. I am reminded of Walter in the "Big Lebowski." This kind of ruins it for me.

Now, the seventh day is Saturday, and by the way the Sabbath is defined it means that we don't do anything between Friday at sundown and Saturday at sundown. Translation: the NFL, at least, is safe from the wrath of God.

Another politically incorrect statement. After all, isn't it on the 7th day that we can do all the things we can't, or don't have the time, during the week? And down we go...

I guess it depends on what day you have off. At least take ONE day off to rest; it doesn't matter if it's Sunday or in the middle of the week.

Absolutely correct, Gentle Jude. Sabbath or Sabat was made for man so that he could literally rest and unwind. Work burnout is not a pleasant thing and will age you fast. God knows what our bodies need to stay healthy today just as He did when He spoke the commandment. Our bodies have not changed. We are made the same today as a thousand years ago and more. He understands we can not always take off work on a Saturday or Sunday, and, the point is not about which day is right anyway. Rest in Him is extreme rest.

Sorry- Capitalism is a bitch and I have to pay the bills. . .trust me, catching a late flight on Sunday is far less fulfilling than church but if I don't take the job they'll give it to the next guy/gal/transgender in line. . .

-- What this commandment means/application -- In those days it literally meant to not work on the seventh day, which was Saturday. The Sabbath was traditionally from Friday evening to Saturday evening. You could not do any work such as even feeding your cattle or going for long walks. You could not even do activities for pleasure. The only thing you could do which was close to work was to eat. What happened was on Friday before twilight, people would be cooking for two days worth so they would have food for the Sabbath. It might sound religious and strict but believe it or not, the Sabbath was actually designed 'For man, not man for the Sabbath' and it was actually given as a blessing. It was a day where you didn't have to work and you could just eat, sleep, talk and praise God all day! Isn't that what everyone really wants to do (eat and sleep!) God gave man that day so they could be refreshed spiritually and physically plus it would remind them that God was the creator who w... Read more
