    There's no other way to cook pasta than al-Dente.  In Italy, they don't overcook their pasta; doing otherwise is insulting to them!

    I like spaghetti that is a little firm to the tooth, but not crunchy. I think overcooked spaghetti is just plain awful. If I wanted mush, I'd cook cream of wheat or oatmeal.

    It's a matter of personal preference, but I subscribe to the theory, "al dente is Italian for  not cooked enough."
