I think of Byron as mainly a jazz musician;but he really is into all kinds off stuff. The first time I heard him play clarinet was with the Klezmer Conservatory Orchestra('Jewish music'...related to Chava Nagila...).As the advertisement used to say ,"You don't have to be Jewish to dig Levy's rye bread(sumthin like dat),Byron's a pretty tough act to follow on clarinet(or sax).I saw him do ..I think his last cd 'Do The Boomerang'(R&b/jazz on the late great Junior Walker's music-and while I first heard/saw about the Jewish clarinetist comedian Mickey Katz (Don Byron Plays The Music of Mickey Katz-Byron poses with a chicken)from my zayde(grandfather in Yiddish)-Byron actually did a terrific album of his music and shtik.
